Retired, 38 years in the trade. Been there, done that. Got many T shirts & caps. A great & honorable career. Many missed family functions, birthdays, holidays, kids playing in their first snowfall. Lost friends & coworkers. I still feel the loss when I hear of a "Pole Buddy" I never met loses to the "Fire in the wires." That said, it's a damned rewarding & satisfying job after working long hours & you close that recloser or switch & you see the lights in a neighborhood come on. One hell of a proud feeling. I would do it all over again.

I’m a line truck mechanic working along side these guys often on job sites and it’s a dangerous job. Words can’t describe the feeling of being that close to the end. But safety is number 1 and you have to love it or you ll never make it.

My husband's uncle Mark was a lineman, he is still around and retired now, despite having some major health etc.. he is one of the lucky one's to still be around, even after a serious Tornado that happened in his neighborhood last year, and one of his son's is training for a position of lineman. I just watched the movie for the first time. Salute to All the men and women who put their life on the line. Prayers to the families who lost a love one. My father was an Election. It scared me so much when he had to go out when we got hit with bad weather or a storm. Only a few times he had to go to another state when it was a natural disaster. That was the worst. He lost his best friend when they got called out one winter. He was gone for a couple of weeks. His friend took my Dad's place wen up the power pole during the storm unaware that there was still a live or Hot wire until it was to late. My Dad left Duke Energy and started his own company. Watching that movie made me think how bless we were to have my Dad come that night. I still lost my Dad years later . At the age of 47 . He passed away from a brain aneurysm but not that night of the storm.

My uncle, Roger Durr, was a lineman who lost his life back in 1988. Not a day goes by that my Mom and my other Aunts and Uncles don't miss him. There are so many people who put their lives on the line, not just linemen but others as well. I myself am a Volunteer Firefighter. God Bless and Protect those who Walk the Line, be they Linemen, Police, Military, Firefighters, First Responders, regardless of Nationality or Beliefs. We are all Brothers and Sisters.

Fiona & Darius, you should both collaborate more often! Something about the way both of your voices blend is just magic!!! I can't hardly watch this movie, too much like Backdraft & Ladder 49. Those boys absolutely crushed it after Ian tore up Ft. Myers & Port Charlotte. Initial estimates were 6 months to restore all the power. Hold my beer, those guys did it in less than a month! WOW 😲

I was so very proud of my son for becoming a lineman. I didn't realize. I just didn't realize. I am still proud but this movie really gave me a reality check. His college graduating class all received a shirt that says, "I am my brother's keeper." My son is in distribution. I learned the difference between that and transmission from watching this movie. Most of us love our job because it's fun and full of adventures. Most contractors go all around the U.S. So before you ride our ass. Think of what we lose for a job we love and people who don't even like paying our checks, because they think we get over paid. Even considering what we go through. Most of us might not be super philanthropic in mind, but we are risking our life and losing precious moments with our families. Sometimes we are out all night and day for nearly a whole week. No rest or nothing. So just be thankful that we're doing it, so you and all the other people who couldn't live without electricity have it at all times. And most of the time, we keep our service area's lights on and don't have power at our own house because the lineman is being safe and fixing it so he can go home safely too. So just think a little more kindly of us when you turn your lights on and in outages.
