I stopped buying new clothes and started focusing on diet and fitness so I could fit in the clothes I already have. No more gym membership and personal trainer. I've stopped depending on (and paying) a trainer to make me accountable. I spend a lot more time outside - even in this Texas heat - and it is so renewing. The best therapy.

Rene, since Covid started I have taken up running. I laugh when people tell me I should run earlier to avoid the heat. Unless you live in TX, you don't realize that there is no earlier. Whether I run at 2 am or 7 am, the temp is high 70s/low 80s :D

Amen sister! So often I go out shopping and then say, “nah, don’t need it” , its like we’ve all weaned off of “STUFF”! We are free! Btw, my tip about face moisturizers that you pass over... I’ve started taking those underwhelming face creams and using them on my feet before I go to bed. My feet love it and I don’t feel like I have to put a product on my face that I’m not fond of. Another thing that I’ve started, adding in meditation/devotional time before bed and not just in the morning... the pressures mount and by the end of the day I’m stressed again. I go back to my bible and journal, prayer and writing, sort of “apply as needed” with the good stuff- makes for good sleep knowing you’ve put yourself and your life back in faithful hands. Xoxo xoxo

Yes! My journey in this area started with my breast cancer diagnosis in 2019. My life was moving at a pace that I couldn’t sustain, and I had no idea how to slow down until cancer redefined what “essential” means. I had been only been back at work a short time when COVID struck, followed by my employer’s decision to cut my position. At 55, I have no idea when or how I might step back into the workforce, but I know that in this season of sabbath and quiet, I am listening, learning and leaving some parts of my life behind, including many of the things you touched on in your video. Thank you for these timely reminders, and for modeling the way for so many of us subscribers! Blessings to you, Dominique!

My epiphany came a few years ago and it started with hair. I decided to stop coloring, blowing out and straightening my hair (too much time, money, products, tools, sweat). It turns out that my "wavy" hair is actually curly now that I treat it more kindly. And I can pack for a one week trip in a carry-on - less hair stuff AND because I've always leaned toward classic clothing and accessories. Then I moved on to rethinking makeup, then my home. It was all quite gradual. I didn't know it was preparing me for lockdown. All the money I had stopped spending became my cushion if I lost my job. I am so blessed to have a job that allowed me to become a work-from-homer and it has worked so well that it's permanent. So my meaningful purchase this year was a solid wood mid-century desk that fits perfectly in my decor. How can I think of it as "work" when I'm doing it from a piece of art?😊 I have to say that I'm loving your softer makeup (though you're gorgeous anyway)❤

We are all, to one degree or another, sharing a very unique paradigm shift. It was a huge adjustment but with that adjustment came the quiet time, time to go deep and discover what’s truly important, what we should prioritize and focus on the things that bring us the most joy. I liked how you shared things that are so common to many women. There’s a freedom when we come to understand a “want” vs a “need”. We can’t go back to the good old days but the days ahead can certainly be much richer as we learn the meaning of contentment. Thanks Dominique!
@iceblue14573 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, Dominique. Totally. I made that shift several years ago after my cancer diagnosis when I had to face the situation where I was receiving only 50% of my previous salary. During my healthy years, I maximized my contribution to the disability fund only to realize I would only get 50% max. Others who did not contribute much, got less. So in a way I was also grateful. Frugality has always been my way of life, even made more meaningful these days. Thank you for your affirming video.

Thank you for your post! We realized years ago as a family we had to learn to say ‘NO’. and not feel guilty! As my husband says, there must be margins in our lives or we will crash!! In reference to the ‘STUFF’. It really hit home when my sister and I cleaned out my mother’s clothing after her passing. Our dad was heartbroken when he looked at her things and wanted them to be given to people that could use them. Then 4 years later when he passed, we had to clean out the home they built together for almost 60 years. They were not ‘pack rats’ but after years of marriage in the same home that was quite the task! I came away with many new outlooks but one above all..... Thanks be to God that the value of one’s life is not determined by the value of what is left here on earth when they pass! This created in me a whole new way of looking at stuff!! whether it is for my home or my wardrobe, it needs to have meaning and real value. Thank you the opportunity to share.

My faith, my family, my health and bettering myself for the god of others as well. I truly appreciate and am very grateful to see your videos on everything in life! Thank You 🙏 Thank You 🙏 Thank You 🙏. I’ve allowed myself the privilege of furthering my true hearts desire in giving back to others by going back to school to get my license in real estate and join a gym at the age of 56. I became disabled in 2011 with a disease called Ménière’s. It is an inner ear disease that causes severe and chronic vertigo among other symptoms. My Dr. sent me to the only ENT in this small town of Texas that I live in. I was treated with a drug called gentamicin. Long story short, the gentamicin destroyed 80% of my vestibular system. It took me two years to even learn to walk again and 5-6 years to drive. It cost me my marriage and much of my self-esteem among other things. I became disabled and the process of getting my disability approved took nine long years to prove. I went from being financially secure to literally next to nothing. It was a very dark place and time for me. But, I’m very tenacious and driven and my faith in God has become stronger because of these events and I’ve become very humble and grateful for the smallest achievements and blessings in my life! You are a very beautiful, bright light in this world and I Thank You again for being one of my mentors! I CAN AND I WILL is my mantra now. Great video, Dominique! At 73 and retired, I have learned to simplify out of necessity, with no "every other Friday" paycheck. It is AMAZING how much "stuff" we accumulate that we don't use or need. I am much more intentional now when I buy things, and I put into practice almost all of the things you mentioned in your video. It makes me feel good that I am being a better steward of the things God has blessed me with. One more area that I would add to what you have said, and that is in purchasing food. I do find sometimes that I have bought an overabundance of things for my pantry or freezer. How many boxes of aluminum foil or cans of diced tomatoes does one really need? Thank you for what you do. You are truly a beautiful person, from the inside out, and I appreciate your transparency in sharing your thoughts and habits with us.

Yes! Just yes! It was really easy to live a minimalist lifestyle when I was younger and poor!normally, as a family, we would be saving money for a really fun fancy vacation. No vacation here at this point - but we were able to find a Montessori program for our son so he can go to in-person school this fall. Very small classes with only 10 children in each class. That's a blessing and it was a blessing to have the extra income. Despite the stress from the pandemic, I think we've worked hard as a family to figure out how to take advantage of some aspects of the change.

Thank you for your video! You’re so right! I’m reevaluating my life but it’s all about centering myself in my faith, readying faith based books, my bible. I removed myself from social media and only watch KZbin. I’m letting my back heal, not major but a muscle and pinched nerve pain. Trying to take care of my diabetes and will start to get back to walking three miles at least 4 days a week. Be Bold / Be Blessed. By the way, I told my friend that and said it was your mantra...

I've been working this entire time and had to really fight to get basic, common sense protection from my employer. My stress level has been extremely high and I find myself crying, at times, while driving home from work. I've never been really "big" into makeup aside from the basics, or for special occasions but I really enjoy your tutorials and have incorporated some of your suggestions. When there is so much negativity and mistreatment of each other swirling around us, thank you! Thank you for offering a caring word and an enjoyable escape every week.

We became a society of people bragging about no sleep and being super busy...I don’t get that mentality at all, I think people somehow feel important if they say how busy they are and how in demand their time is when in reality it’s a lot of stress and ridiculous to think we can be good at too many things at once. Hopefully this pandemic has taught some that it is not necessary to spread oneself so thin.

I actually did that 3 years ago. I really downsized. I purchased a small RV and moved it on my sister's land. I gave everything I wasn't wearing or using away. We have a store here that helps battered women and children get back on their feet. It went to them. My life has been so much happier. If I buy anything something has to leave so I'm not buying anything unless it's really needed or special. God has blessed me tremendously. My dad passed away in March and both parent's were here so my sister and I were able to take care of dad until the end. Now I'm here for mom. ❤ Thank you, Dominique, for sharing your heart with us. That's what makes you so special. You're real, open, and so supportive.

I’m a minimalist by nature so I’ve been ‘cleaning out my closet’ for years and I totally agree that it just feels so good to have less, and know that what I didn’t need, someone else will. I’m also in the same train of thought when it comes to only buying quality clothes and shoes that are classic, staple pieces that will last a lifetime. My grandmother was a huge bargain shopper and passed her ‘skills’ on to me and I take great pride in it. Lastly, I saw a quote in FB that goes along with what you said about being constantly busy. It said, “ Whenever I am impatient, I try and step back and ask myself, Why am I in such a hurry to get through my life?” I loved it and had to share ♥️

Thank you so much for this video. I’ve had a very unusual year with my 2 kids getting married within 2 months of each other in a pandemic. It was stressful with having one at our house and trying to keep everyone safe and cutting the numbers down on the other one. Just like that my husband and I are empty nesters! So, now I’m focusing on taking care of myself and reconnecting with my husband. It’s kind of a sad time but also an exciting time for me as I’m missing my kids but also embracing this new chapter in my life. Some practical steps I’m taking from your video is to purge my closet and garage. I’m also going through some auto deliveries I have and only keeping a few and canceling others. Thank you.☺️

I started these same processes and thoughts about 3 years ago. My epiphany came when we had to move my mother-in- law out of her home and into assisted living. I decided then that my years of accumulating “stuff” had to stop. I purged my entire home and I no longer go shopping for entertainment. I,too, have the rule of getting rid of 2 things if I want to buy 1 new item. The great thing is that this doesn’t feel in anyway like a sacrifice. For me, it really isn’t about the money...it’s the freedom to stop the rat race. I feel free. The consumerism train is no longer part of my life. I do enjoy watching some of the YT hauls but I find myself wondering if buying stuff has become a compulsion that provides emotional support for something that is missing in their lives.

Betty, a neurotransmitter called dopamine is released whe we spend, win at gambling, eat the free sugar FRUCTOSE (not in fruit but when it is added as a cheap sweetner in ultra processed food) snort cocain and all kinds of other "excitatory" events. Serotoin is the neurotransmitter for "contentment". I beleive we are all insearch of ways to have more of Serotoin. Melatonin, the sleep hormone is converted to serotonin when our eyes see the sunlight!!! Dominque touched on "grounding" or earthing! Check it out! Love our community!

I have learned that in my life I don’t need to be so busy so everything. It’s been since March since I’ve had a hair cut, color, keratin, pedi, etc., much less shopping and you know what? I lived! It’s okay. Nothing bad happened. We’re all in this together and I’ve learned to do certain things at home. Color my own roots, wax, do my own nails, and I don’t really need all the clothes. Where am I going? It no longer suits my current life style. And it’s all okay. I lived. Less is truly more. I love my husband and been spending lots of time with him, working, getting closer to my co-workers. I see my friends and my former life with a new appreciation. I really had a good life and I honestly don’t think I knew that. All you say is so true. The other thing is I’ve started reading the Bible and I hope to continue. Turning to a higher power has been major for me this year in trying to understand or at least getting through it. The thing I miss most is going to my gym with my girlfriend. But I’ve taken up walking and it’s been not only good physically but for the soul. ❤️ your videos. Thank you.

Such great ideas! I’ve stopped coloring my hair and letting it go grey. Was surprised to find a whole community of us! Cut off all the long hair and most of my Brown hair with a cute short undercut. Love the length your hair is right now! Anyway I felt about coloring it the same way you describe feeling about the lash extensions. And it’s been very freeing not to be a slave to the coloring. Constantly clearing out my closet and giving things away-, it’s never ending for me. I think the idea of One in is Two out will work to help as well! So much good stuff in this video!! Thanks again !!

I implement most of these things anyway covid or not. I dont have a gym membership I do at home workouts and go for walks in nature. I dont get any expensive beauty treatment, I do my own manicure & pedicure. I do treat myself every now and again for a facial etc..I don't eat out weekly, I may eat out maybe once a month. I don't buy myself new items of clothing regularly, unless I really need something. So I'd say I'm pretty much there 😅

I’ve been rebounding on a mini trampoline in my home for almost a year and have lost at least 7 lbs. The best thing about rebounding is it helps our lymphatic system a lot, clears out toxins. I’ve always been an advocate for less busy and more purposeful but the last two years have been going through our stuff and purging. Probably started because we became empty nesters. Thanks for your idea on Rent the Runway for special events.

I also figured out how important my husband is for me. We had a lockdown in our country for 12 weeks, meaning we had to stay at home all the time, working from home, no school for the kids and so on.... Anyway I was surprised how good my husband and I get along with each other. No arguments, no bitting comments, it felt like we life on an desert island, just we both and the kids. And it worked!! The hard time has given me the confirmation that I have choosen the right hausband :)

I couldn't have said it better. My family has been lucky enough to have been able to keep our jobs and work from home. We have realized one big thing during Covid and that is how much money we were spending on silly things that we really didn't need. We have always been great savers of money and never had any debt, but Covid put a whole new light on it. We have saved so much by just staying in and enjoying each other. We have communicated so much more and enjoyed each other's company. If there is one thing that I can say good about Covid, it is that it gave us all a chance to stop, reflect and appreciate what we already had and have. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Nice to know someone else got some good out of Covid too!!

I loved hearing about your journey this year. So similar with cups overflowing with doings and activity. I have been working two part time jobs for 6 sometimes 7 days a week as I’d split the one for my husband around house, family and social activity. Following the need to set up and work both from my home office at the end of March I was suffering. Stress, not sleeping, no separation, expectations both from myself and the head surgeon to not make a mistake in anything I did. I took 3 weeks sick leave in July, the best thing I could have done. My GP sent me for tests, nothing showed up. The slowing down and time to reflect led me to quit that job (I had set the surgeons practice up, we took on 4 more surgeons and 2 other part timers, I love/d my working field; this year there was no connection with them, no phone calls only a daily computer running sheet and emails from the head surgeon which I found so stressful). I’m now working for my husband and taken on a typing job from home. The calmness I have has started the healing process. I’m planning on taking my time before I find myself a small role elsewhere for me to earn a few cents outside of my husband’s work. Feeling blessed that I took the time to stop before any malaise took hold and loving myself with a slower period of life to focus on house, garden and me and my beautiful family. Please keep sharing your journey. 😚🙏
