Trust me Dingo, it can ALWAYS BE WORSE when it comes to bugs. I volunteered to help clean up my old scout camp, because I had so many great times there. So I signed up for the weekend. We had to bunk in the forest ranger house at the edge of the camp, and we all slept in a few rooms on metal bunk beds. I had a great time, and felt good to be back at camp after so many years. I went home after, and for a month I had no problems until I started getting mosquito bites on the tops of my feet. At least that was what I thought they were, as it was summer, and I often kick off the covers while I sleep. I kept having this mosquito problem for 2 weeks, and it wasn't until I went to change the sheets that my life went from Def Con 5 to Def Con 1!!!!!!! I HAD BED BUGS!!!!!!!! I had to throw out 90% of my stuff. Goodbye bed, goodbye clothes, goodbye decent night's sleep for MONTHS. I got a storage compartment to store everything else I owned, so that I could CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN, and everything I owned went into plastic bags in the HOT August summer, for those little bastards to die. I had zero stuff for 6 weeks, I had to buy all new clothes, bed, linen. I slept in the basement next to the washing machine on an air mattress for 6 weeks because I needed to have the areas professionally cleaned and fumigated( Nuke them from orbit, it's the ONLY way to be sure :) The bill came to 2000$, plus I needed to buy all my stuff again, and pay for the storage. So I think I paid 4,000$ for everything, maybe 5k. So the moral of the story is: IT CAN ALWAYS BE WORSE!!!

This might be the one fear I've (almost) come to terms with. The house I was raised in is relatively new, but for 20+ years has had chronic silverfish. You know, almost furry, but long? They've gotten pretty bad, but that Junebug incident is a reminder it could always be worse. At some point after freaking out over any for years (especially spiders, which also never failto appear), something switched. If I'm outside, it's fine now, to the point where they can almost be interesting. However, if it's inside, small (, and preferably on the floor)... all plans become postponed until whatever's 'intruding' has been taken care of.

I wanted to share my horror story with bugs. Since moving out on my own I've lived mostly on apartments built during the 60s. But one time i had to move into a newer built apartment, probably built during 2010. Thing is it was a very cool apartment. I felt very modern and all. But then there were the bugs. The whole ass apartment complex were infested with these Silverfishes. In my other apartments i would find them in the bathroom or occasionally in the kitchen sink. Put down a trap and be done with them. However in this apartment the little shits where everywhere. I would find them in my cooking ware, on my ceiling, walls and all around everywhere. I hated living there because by month three i was noticing i couldn't feel clean. The bastard never died even when i call the exterminator. They still popped up now and then and in the end i had to live there for over a year before i could find a new place. Even after that time i would find the little critters when i was unpacking my moving boxes. Thankfully dead but i was so fucking done with them by now

Once, my family went camping for the summer. We were in the wild for weeks. It was great. I saw giant dragonflies, tiny butterflies, and fireflies. Then, we came home and I opened our sliding door. It had not been opened for weeks, and earwigs had decided to settle in the top of it. The earwigs were like, an inch away from falling into my hair. I screamed.

1:23 I have a phobia of picking roses, want to know why? When I was little I was so young and innocent and we have this patch of roses near our house so I was like: ‘I’M GONNA GO PICK FLOWERS! YAY’ I picked a flower, and all the petals fell off (probably because I was being really rough) and this giant ass earwig just fell out of the flower. I was screaming, and I could still see the bug because I was on my deck when all the petals fell off. My mum came out and was like ‘What is it? What is it?’ And I point at the earwig, still in shock. She just looked down and was like: ‘So... You weren’t being attacked?’ At this point I just ran inside and I have never touched a rose since.

Ya ever seen a swarm of ladybugs? Down in the south where my kin be, it’s kudzu stinkbugs. In the summer they aren’t so bad, but come winter the vast assemblage swarms isn’t sources of warmth: clothes, windowsills, bedding. Nothing is safe. They die in the lamps, obscuring the illumination. Cleaning them out at the end of the year, you see the few survivors crawling from betwixt the corpses of their brethren, wherein already new life emerges. Maggots. Mold. Screw stink bugs.

I used to live in New Zealand, and Earwigs were very common there too. My cousins used to scare me when I was 7-10 years old, saying that they can crawl into my ears and eat my brain at night, hence their names. I’m still not sure if that’s true or not, but at least I live in the US now, and earwigs are a lit less common.
