According to the apostle Peter, in I Peter 3:7, sinful behavior impacts our prayer life by hindering our prayers. Sin (any sin, whether in one’s behavior or heart-like bitterness and unforgiveness) is a blessing blocker, and God wants us to examine our hearts, especially when we are entering His presence in prayer. Jesus paid a very high price so that we could be saved, healed, and delivered. When the Holy Spirit helps us see that there is sin in our lives, all we have to do is confess it, repent of it (turn from the sin), ask forgiveness, and it’s thrown as far as the east is from the west, never to be remembered (Psalm 103:12; Isaiah 43:25), but “If I regard iniquity [cherished sin] in my heart, the Lord will not hear me” (Psalm 66:18). Our prayers are hindered by our sin and when we are out of fellowship with others. It’s important to make sure we address the sin in our lives by repentance, a change of heart, and a change of ways. Jesus paid the price for our past, present, and future sins, but that does not mean we should not ask for forgiveness. Sin separates us from God which is why He gave us a way out: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9 HCSB) He provided this way of restoration so we can walk in fellowship with our Abba Father and with our fellow man. If we don’t deal with the sin in our lives it becomes easy for our hearts to be hardened and less sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Be Encouraged!
