Hello, We just got a new eufy system for Christmas. We wanted a 3 camera system to cover our yard so we got the 2 camera eufyCam 2 Pro with base station and a SoloCam E40 which I thought was an add on camera for the base station. After setup I learned the E40 was really a stand alone camera and did not need a base station. Also, the E40 has a polygon activity zone which seems much better then the rectangle zone on the 2 Pro for my odd shaped lot. I am trying to decide to a) keep what I have, b) return the 2 Pro/base station and replace with 2 E40 cameras, c) replace the E40 with 1 true add on camera to the base station. Other Pros/cons: The base station can control all connected cameras with 1 click vs a click for each E40; The 2 Pro (on paper) seem to have a longer batter life vs the E40; Each E40 is another wireless device on my already busy wireless network vs the base station can be a wired device; and finally, 2 E40’s are $100 less then the 2 Pro/base station setup. Are there other pros or cons? What do people recommend? Thanks in advance for any advice and guidance!

How do you like it? I want atleast 2 cameras that connect directly to wifi with great audio and video, long battery life, easy to charge, zero lag and can work in sub zero temperatures with 24/7 viewing. I'm new to the camera game. Just researched the Arlo Pro 4 and wasn't impressed. Thought I'd check out the Eufy brand, any suggestions?

@@shanew7361 I had Arlo for a few years. Initially, I used the free option which I believe was a 4 camera set up with a week recording (motion) and it will overlap. Then I paid for the extra feature and that was not worth it. I found out about Eufy just by doing some research. I can tell you that the options for Eufy is MUCH better than Arlo. With either system there will be lag and @LifeHackster does a lot of videos on them so check them out. Battery life is better on my end as well. Charging is simple, just get an external charger and hang it from the camera, so you don't have to remove the camera itself from the mounting position. As far as sub zero temperatures, I can't give you any pointers on that. With 24/7 viewing you will drain the batteries quick. I set my system up for motion sensor and since I've had mine set up since July and the battery is still at 100%. I use mine from time to time to check stuff but never 24/7 monitoring. If its 24/7 monitoring, you might want to go hardwire or wireless with a plug in. Check out ReoLink. They were the next option for me. Check out @LifeHacksters videos. They are all very informative.

I'm confused: Why would anyone not want a base station? When it comes to local storage, a thief can break-in and steal my camera by simply unscrewing it from the wall. Local footage is now gone and I'm now clueless as to who broke into my place. With a base station, you can try to hide it or lock it in a secured storage area. Mine I locked it in a server rack mounted high on the wall.

I mounted the E40 to view my walkway with a diagonal view. Video is great and detection is pretty good. I setup the activity zone. Easy to do but doesn't work at all. If not in human mode, it alerts on every car that goes by even though my activity zone doesn't include the street. I reduced the zone to be about 10' from the curb no difference. I would be okay with human mode, except that the app says at night it will change to all motion mode. I haven't yet had night mode, but am not happy with the implications.... in night mode it's going to alert my phone and echo show for every car.... that totally sucks. After several months with 4 2C Pros, Eufy let me return the entire system due to continual unresolved problems relating to motion detection. The “Human Only” setting is unreliable, and the “Activity Zone” tool is a joke, as the cameras constantly send me alerts of non-human motions OUTSIDE the prescribed activity zones. So I purchased 4 of the new Solocam E40’s, being assured that the AI was improved. It wasn’t. Yesterday I received literally scores of false alerts on my Front Yard camera (set to Human Only.) It would pick up passing vehicles, even though the Activy Zones are specifically adjusted to EXCLUDE the street. I even further reduced the edges of the Zones from the street, but no improvement. Some of the alerts are apparently from wind blowing in the trees, but many times there is no motion whatsoever! I have also adjusted the Sensitivity up & down with no noticeable change. I’m basically giving up on my expectations of any real accuracy of detection; looks like I’m stuck with these Eufy units (again.) If anyone knows of another brand with reliable detection and no cloud storage fees, please reply. Thank you.
@LifeHackster3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. I noticed the E40 is more accurate and I don't get false notifications at night (passing cars) but I don't really have any issues also with the 2C and 2C Pro. Human detection has been pretty reliable on mine. Motion zones are not that reliable though.

The compression is much better with this E40 at 2k, then what your Camera has now...it's not the same format it can handle more video.
@roebuddy013 жыл бұрын
I believe the point of 8Gb on board storage is decentralisation of storage. The homebase 2 (hub) has 16Gb of centralised storage for all cameras connected to the hub. The more cameras added to the system, the lower the average storage available per cam. This is also the reason why more severe compression was needed for the Pro2 generation as Homebase 2 was catering broadly for the generational leap between 1080p and 2k cameras, the latter of which would create bigger file sizes and potentially deplete 16Gb of storage quicker. By me replacing just one 2c pro with one Solocam to an existing setup of 2c pros and a wireless doorbell, I'd be relieving the Homebase 2 of responsibility for storing the new Solocam's footage, thereby giving my other cameras that rely on the Homebase more room. And with 8Gb of dedicated storage for 1 camera, Eufy could let loose with less compression. When you think about it, this was an essential move for Eufy. As their cameras are switching to 2k and perhaps in the future 3k then 4k, the homebase's 16Gb was (is) becoming a bottleneck. This is a crying shame as there's little wrong with the Homebase otherwise. Decentralisation of storage to the camera therefore increases the functional life of the homebase therefore. It costs less to buy more memory in bulk (to kit out all new models) than it does to re-engineer the homebase everytime there is a generational increase in camera resolution. Storage at camera and hub level makes sense as does user-changeable microSD card slots / USB storage options at the base.

Any idea which camera gets better battery life in real world scenarios?
@ghostraider43123 жыл бұрын
If there is a lot of traffic or a lot of detection, then really none will have great battery life. You will need to consider a solar panel add on or the eufy s40 with built in solar panel. Otherwise a wired outdoor camera.

Can the video data stored in the local storage of SoloCam E40 be downloaded to another device? Or can this camera save the video data directly to the homebase?

This is probably too late but I have both the s40 and e40 and if I could do it over again I would just get the e40 as it seems it can detect motion almost twice as far as the s40 and starts to record much faster especially with motion going towards the camera which is the most important feature as a wireless camera is only has good as its motion detection in my opinion.

Maybe someone can help me. I bought a ring doorbell and after calling ring and going through the setting a million times, it still missing random motion. I adjusted all the settings to be as sensitive as possible and to catch everything, but it never fails it misses a couple events a day, even if I stand in front of it for 20 seconds then walk in, I hear this is a common issue with ring and they said try to adjust setting or return it.. I gave up. Does anyone know if it’s jsut the cheaper rings that have the random motion being missed or is it all of them?
@jcm96983 жыл бұрын
I've never had an issue with any of my Ring's. Maybe set up motion zones, and high sensitivity. Mine picks up everything, even my neighbor opening their garage door - never misses a beat. I had the very first Ring when they came out, then upgraded to the Pro, and now I have the Pro 2 and love their doorbells! If you are having intermittent problems, exchange it. Their doorbells work very well, that my neighbors are getting them as well. For floodlights, I'd forego the Ring and get the Eufy 2k floodlight! The light output (cleaner white, brighter), audio/video, the overall build is superior in my opinion.

@@jcm9698 idk i see alot of complaints og the intermittent motion detection issues. Its not settings that the issue
@LifeHackster3 жыл бұрын
I’m assuming you have a Ring battery powered video doorbell. Try changing the motion frequency to frequent. Cool off period and having a PIR sensor to detect motion that is coming towards the camera makes a battery powered camera not as reliable as a wired or plug in WiFi cameras.
@AverageReviewsYT3 жыл бұрын
@@LifeHackster I adjusted all the settings. Me and ring we over all of them and they “adjusted settings only they had access to” and it still missed it... so basically it’s a nature of this type of beast? It won’t ever be perfect and they will all most likely do this? If it’s not defective then I’ll keep it. I guess. Can u respond to let me know if this is what I should expect?
@LifeHackster3 жыл бұрын
@@AverageReviewsYT yes for a battery powered camera. If you can get a wired one, you will not this issue plus it will record 3-6 seconds before motion has been detected..so the recording starts before the person appears in the cameras field of view…the ring pro, pro 2 and their ring doorbell wired will be better options.

My house is located on a few acres of land so the entrance to the driveway is VERY far from the WiFi router in my house. I want a camera in my driveway in case something suspicious happens. If I set up the camera with the WiFi router, will I be able to disconnect the camera from WiFi so it is recording on local storage and if I need to get the video footage, then I will get the camera and view the footage on WiFi? Can this work? Will I still get 2K and AI technology?
@ghostraider43123 жыл бұрын
I'm assuming it should record without Wi-Fi. My understanding is that the camera has 8GB built in. Wi-Fi is used to access the camera and look at the saved footage or to access a live stream. Eufy will also release their own subscription plan so that videos are uploaded to the cloud using Wi-Fi. 2K and AI are built onto the camera so that shouldn't change. But I would wait before preordering so you get the best information.

I would say the fact that the e40 can detect motion almost twice as far as the 2c pro is enough for me to pick the e40.
@Syncopator3 жыл бұрын
It's not "stand alone" if it's tied to a custom app, or worse, a subscription service. Also, you should evaluate these on how well they work through windows. Given the IR features, windows reflect IR such that the IR needs to be turned off if using the camera through a windows. A proper test needs to show what kind of low light capability a camera has (if any) when used in this fashion. Otherwise, the review is incomplete.
@LifeHackster3 жыл бұрын
Just FYI and I have shown these on multiple videos in my channel…PIR cameras which all battery powered cameras are will not work through glass. Please research first before commenting in my channel.
@Syncopator3 жыл бұрын
@@LifeHackster I've got several PIR cameras that work through glass by turning off the IR illumination. I've clearly done far more research than you have.
@LifeHackster3 жыл бұрын
Let me see..do they detect motion from the outside? Yeah good luck with that. You can only use them on live view but they will not detect movement.
@LifeHackster3 жыл бұрын
Just google this “ do PIR sensors work through glass”..yeah that easy.
@Syncopator3 жыл бұрын
@@LifeHackster Sure they will, the motion detection is optical, and those optics still work through windows, motion detection works just fine. IR is not required for that, only sufficient illumination.

unfortunate these cams still shoot very slow frames per second. 15 FPS it said? so sluggish. At least 20 FPS but better if 25-30fps
@ghostraider43123 жыл бұрын
Creating a high resolution security camera will increase the cost. At least maybe $300 for 1 device. If you need a high quality security camera I think you have to look for another brand.
@neilli21573 жыл бұрын
The main issue is they are battery powered. I cant find any wire free cam go beyond 20fps. If they want the camera to last at least a few months, they have to limit both the CPU capability and the data being transfered via wifi.
