I think what a lot of people do not understand is that they can get the same results with a cheap wifi OBDII as they can an expensive one. Case in point. I paid $4.41 for mine new on Ebay. There are some that sell for 99 dollars. I use the same app as they do and get the same results. For the biggest part, the OBD's are all the same, it's the apps that you use that makes the difference. New subscriber. Great video by the way.

The Torque Pro App is definitely in my future!!! I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 just laying around waiting for something to do. This app is perfect for this phone. ALSO, you mentioned @ 6:30 in the video that it is nice to have a way to contact someone via Ham and ask them to look up a code for you on the internet. I just looked on line and found 13 pages of codes for my Jeep Wrangler JK's which I am printing up and placing the printed list in both of my rigs. This way there is no middle man needed to looking up a code which may or may NOT be looked up properly or relayed to you properly. Thank you very much for leading us to this app. Watching your exploits daily until we get caught up.

Been using this since 2013. Saved me so many times. This year my 2005 4runner sport was running poorly and having ignition problems especially when cold... run the app and indicate multiple cylinder misfires... as it turned out... the gasoline was way over the octane rating... i put premium fuel and added octane booster (too rich). Went back to regular gasoline and on my second fill up the ignition issues resolved itself. Without this app i could have been taken to the cleaners at the mechanics shop for made up engine diagnosis and unnecessary repairs.

@3:35 - In the context of OBD2, PID stands for Parameter I.D. - Proportional Integral Derivative (aka PID controller) is totally different and nothing to do OBD. - Great video though. -Cheers
@geopwd6 жыл бұрын
The PID's related to a OBDII system are the onboard diagnostics "Parameter IDs". The PID (proportional integral derivative) that you mentioned are programmed in controllers (eg PLC) that use a control loop feedback mechanism to control process variables.

Interesting.. because, I heard some “custom pids” can be used to trigger crank relearn or throttle learn. I wonder if those processes would be described the same way because.. it does exactly what you say, adjusts system variables based on sensor/part relations or just a power loss. I had a ground come off and ecm lost power for a sec, requiring crank relearn. Sigh

Torque Pro is awesome. I use it as my primary gauge system on my Baja racing buggy. The only hard gauge in the car I actually use is the oil pressure gauge and that is because it is connected to monster sized red LED light to come on if I lose oil pressure (serious engine killer!). I use it on my phone clamped to the dash bar as I'm not really looking at it when bashing across Baja at warp speed so I don't need a large tablet for it. Best of all, I use it on all my other cars when getting ready for smog tests, etc. or a check engine light comes on. Best 20$ you will ever spend and most of that is on a decent obdII reader!

And she walked off. My own sister is now an Apple NPC who when confronted with a piece of technology that is twice the speed and screen resolution as her ludicrously expensive iphone at a quarter of the price, she not only doesn't recognize it, she immediately believes her phone MUST be better simply bc it's an Apple and mine is not. I MUST be using an outdated, inferior phone. Then there's the slightly less NPC person who asks, "what can your android do that my iPhone can not?" and I don't ever answer that question bc it's like gluing some feathers to a go-kart, riding up to a Boeing 767 and asking "what is it that you can do that I can not?"

With a BAFX OBD2 scanner from amazon ($20), a walmart tablet ($50), and Torque ($5) you can do a digital dash for $75. Of course with a cheap tablet you likely will not get GPS, compass, or level sensors. But you'll still get everything else. I also rewired the OBD2 scanner so that it draws its power from the fuse panel, so that it turns off when I turn off the vehicle. Because the OBD2 port is constantly powered, certain scanners will slowly drain your battery (can be an issue if you don't use the vehicles for 2-3 days).

If you drive a Crysler vehicle (Jeep), the Jscan OBD app does a much better job for diagnosing trouble codes. It works with the same OBD adapter, so just get both apps. The Jscan app allows you to program a Jeep ECU - i.e. tire size, gearing in the differentials etc. - something you usually use a specific tuner for which costs you north of $200. So for the Jeepers watching this channel: get both apps and the bluetooth adapter: it's worth it. The Jscan app for programming your modifications and the Torque app for all the monitoring while driving.
