I can't hear this song without remembering how perfectly it was utilized in the movie Love Actually.

Yes - Joni's music is poetry set to music. Not just lyrics.

One of the greatest song writers of all time. It's difficult to rank greatness, but she is up there with Bob Dylan and Paul Simon.

Hello Stan from Northern British Columbia, Canada. I so loved your insightful and personal perspectives on our national national treasure Joni Mitchell. I've been watching many reaction videos from your channel and others. I've never commented on anything until now. I was almost brought to tears by the song and your comments hit me like an arrow to the heart, a nice arrow though. I understand that people that do your kind of work get harassed by haters. I'm not a hater. I found that coming from a very different place than you, culturally, ethnically, and so forth, that listening to music I love from my generation through the eyes and ears of someone new from different places in the world is incredibly healing. Thanks again Stan. I'd like to make a contribution, but I don't know how (I know that sounds like a poor excuse, but I really don't.) Take care.

Crossing over with your other reactions of the day, my favourite cover of this is Roger Whittaker's. 🙂

I'm glad you picked this song....one of my favorites from her....there's also a version she did in 2000 with a full orchestra and it is a perfect bookend to her youthful version. I recommend it highly.

You'd like her 2000 version - an older woman who really understands the experiences behind the lyrics.

Money talks. Some big Joni Mitchell fan is apparently paying every reactor under the sun to react to Joni Mitchell’s rendition of “Both Sides Now”. Great song. Joni wrote it. Judy Collins had the hit with it, NOT Joni. Judi’s is better. There, I said it!

Judy's version is too pop for me. The lyrics are rather philosophical, and Judy's twinky version distracted from the seriousness of the lyrics, IMHO. Joni was an amazing songwriter, singer, and guitarist. Her unique guitar sound is from playing mostly in open G tuning, of which she was a pioneer.
