It’s quite the surreal experience listening to someone explain Norway so accurately - from a place of understanding (as well as respect) - yet also as an outsider. For instance, I’ve never heard Julaften be explained in such a way that it sounds completely correct but also completely foreign. Thank you, sir! You were a delight to listen to! As a Norwegian, I felt the pride swell in my heart, and I was happy to hear the genuine love with which you speak of Norway. Bonus: I had to laugh when you mentioned how proud us from Bergen are of our dialect. Correct, again.

You can really tell he enjoyed his experience by his expressions as he mentions some of his memories. How refreshing to see an American actually immersing in another culture to the point of learning the language and sounding good!!

As an American who recently moved to Norway this is probably the best description I've heard. But take him seriously when he says Norwegians are reserved. Trying to find your way socially and learning the language with the dialect/accent of your region are probably the biggest struggles for an American living here

As someone who is half Norwegian half Ecuadorian who has lived half her life in both countries. I can say that all of what he is saying is very true. But sadly kids and teens in Norway are often very spoiled. Not all. But a big chunk of them are. In my school I find a lot of the kids take too much for granted and are very ungrateful for the privileges they have. I have seen many kids in my highschool with an iPhone X throw it across the room. I have overheard kids complaining about their parents being too “poor” and just being outright disrespectful to the teachers to a point I start getting beyond enraged. Appreciating what they have is something they learn a lot later in life when they become adults (18-25 years old) and have to support themselves.

Actually we have alot of guns homes, but you cant buy automatic weapons, and to buy pistols and revolvers there are strict rules to how to aquire it and you need to be a member of a pistolclub to be allowed to buy one. Almost all weapons norwegians own are like rifles and shotguns and it is for use for hunting and sport. To aquire a gun you would apply police who check your background and approve if you are allowed to buy one. Also very strickt rules to store weapons home.

Hey, like your video :) Just one thing that is not easy to understand if you're not interrested in this topic. Guns are allowed if: You are a Norwegian citizen. You are a registered hunter, then you can apply for a gun license, and if you're record is clean, then you will get it approved within 3 months. The weapons you can get for being a hunter is shotguns and hunting rifles. Hunting without gunpowder is not allowed in Norway. If you want a pistol, you need to be a member of a shooting club for atleast 3 months, and the pistol is not allowed for self defence, only for sports shooting. I hope this covered some questions.
@lars-iverespeland31795 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure you have to be a memeber of a shooting club for 3 years to own a pistol

Try saying something in Trøndersk, It's quite something. It's like a mishmash of all the dialects into one, and no one excepts us can fully understand it :') We have a phrase that goes "Hannhoinnj i bannj og ett spannj med blandevannj i annjer hannja" Which directly translated to "A male dog on a leash and a bucket of mixing water (for alcohol) in the other hand"

This is actually really really good! The only thing I would correct is how people in the west pronounce the R. That R comes from southern norway, so only some southern parts of western norway use it, Bergen being one of them. in the rest we have the same Rs as in eastern norway.

Personally I think you should speak a dialect u like the most from Norway which is not Eastern dialect cuz when you don’t live in a place which speaks an eastern dialect Norwegians everywhere else generally dislike immigrants speaking with an eastern dialect. The reason many people dislike immigrants speaking with an eastern dialect is cuz it massively used, and doesn’t feel like you have lived in Norway for a long time, or that u don’t master the language(which you master very good just hearing you were awesome speaking the Bergen dialect). You don’t have to worry that people who think understand you, if u speak with a southern dialect even the sweedish, danish, Finns(above the age of 15, they learn Swedish from the age of 10) and probably an Icelandic person would understand you to a degree, so of course everybody in Norway would understand you if the have spoken the language for more than 2 years. You could probably trick an dude from southern Norway that u were born an raised in Bergen, cuz u blond and have blue eyes like most Norwegians😉
