@@MyraLymperi yup, the regular Liforme is still too thin! I have the extra tiny version too - the yoga pad - they made to add on top of the regular mat for extra joint support. Thank you for this great review! Just want to clarify though, when Lifeforme say their mats are biodegradable in 1-5 years they mean that's how long it takes to degrade when you throw it away and it goes to landfill, as opposed to hundreds of years that old school plastic/ pvc takes. No idea what the actual lifespan of the mat is as I've never used them and I guess it depends on the activity it's used for, would love to hear updates on how yours are fairing with time :)
@jaimetan3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, Senuri! And good to know about the biodegradable timeline (although it's confusing, isn't it? How does the mat know when its been thrown away and when it starts degrading...?) 😬😂I'll let you know how mine does with time, although between all the mats I now have, I still keep coming back to the Manduka PROlite and GRP lite mats. It's personal preference at the end of the day, and I prefer the feel and density/thickness of them.
@senurim52873 жыл бұрын
@@jaimetan haha yes, it's because landfill conditions are very different to our normal environment (compact, dense, warm, wet etc), so don't worry it shouldn't biodegrade at home 😂 But I guess it probably could impact its durability to some extent! Best yoga mat reviews ever... non bias, sleek and fun. I use Liforme for a year now. When I bought it I was just looking for the best yoga grip. I love Madura eKo and often put it on the top of Liforme. I have love/ hare relationship with Lf and love Madura EKo. I’m looking to buy a mat that is a combination of those two plus an ego- friendly quality. Perhaps Manduka pro?
@jaimetan3 жыл бұрын
ah yes, the Liforme has great grip, but it's a little thin - is that why you're putting the eKO on top? As far as I know, Manduka's only eco-friendly option is the eKO series, and the eKO mat is the thickest at 5mm. There's the eKO lite at 4mm, but texture-wise it's still rubbery. Most people who like the eKO series also like the Jade Harmony (a bit thin too). But - if you want a bit more rubbery grip texture like the liforme but with a bit more thickness, you might like the Manduka GRP Adapt? In all honesty - I don't like the GRP Adapt as it's too springy and noisy, but it might be the combo of liforme + eKO you're looking for. I reviewed it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKDdkoxsq92JqdE (but: it's not eco-friendly) I'm only familiar with Manduka mats so I'm sorry I can't be of more help! I know of the B-mat too that a lot of people like but I've never tried it so I can't give you my thoughts on it, but you might like to look into that too! B mat: eu.byoganow.com/collections/b-mats

Thanks for the review. I have the manduka pro lite, GRP adapt and just got the liforme. Just started yoga january 2024 and I just love it. I recently started going hot yoga. My original is manduka pro lite which I love after breaking it in but I only use it now for nonheated yoga practice since I am not much of a fan of putting yogites towel when i get sweaty with the hot yoga. This mat will be with me for a very long time. I love the GRP adapt’s grip but if the class is small and quiet, it can get embarrassing since it squeaks but works fine for inferno pilates where there’s music and typically bigger classes. The liforme is just absolutely stunning, love that i can pay attention to my alignment and it is very grippy. Both the liforme and manduka grp adapt need to air out after sweaty sessions. The manduka pro lite is low maintenance and is more hygienic in the long run. 💪🧘

Hello Jaime! It has been 3 months since I got my Manduka Pro and it is still very slippy. At the beginning I did a lot of sea salt application. And I had to buy the gripping towel of Manduka because downward facing dog is such a pain the in butt on my mat :/ Do you have any suggestions? Thank you have a great wednesday
@jaimetan3 жыл бұрын
Hi Elif! There’s 2 ways to look at this: #1: how are you holding the pose? If it’s in down-dog - are you spreading the fingers wide, gripping through each finger tip, and at the same time also pressing each knuckle into the mat? One of the main mistakes I see in students is they're not engaging enough through the knuckles and finger tips (and only pressing through the heel of the hand) - which will cause you to slip and slide coz you're not engaging the entire hand through knuckles and finger tips. Similar thing with the feet and legs too - your feet aren't just hanging out in the pose, but actively pressing the heels into the mat even if they don't touch the mat yet, and also pulling up on the kneecaps - this activates the entire chain from the foot up the leg, helping you grip better too. I could go into more specifics of different poses on the mat and how you engage the muscles which can help you grip better too - so down-dog is just one such example, but it's the same thing with "how are you actively engaging in different poses" which helps you grip better. #2: The PRO series mats ultimately are not absorbent at all. If you sweat a lot, or have naturally oilier hands and feet, you will ultimately slip and slide on this material - which is why using an eQua hand or mat towel can help with the grip (the towels get grippier when wet). I tend to sweat a lot and always have a mat towel over any mat I use - they're not great when dry as they're more slippery, but the sweatier I get, the grippier the towels are (you can mist them down with water at the start of practice too). If you want a grippier/ more absorbent mat, you'll need to look at the GRP or eKO series of mats Manduka makes - I have a whole series of various Manduka mat reviews here: kzbin.info/aero/PLgSmPfcaRy58N9C-n1m15vQ7FezxIVxwT (but ultimately my personal preference is still the PRO series mats). Hope this helps explain a little bit... and this turned into a longer essay than I thought - and now you've just given me an idea for another video to make... so thank YOU!

Hello Gena, thanks for watching and for your kind words! To be honest, I bought my Manduka Pro more than a decade ago so I can't remember the break-in period, but I don't remember it being THAT bad. I've always just used soap and water on my new mats, and that's how I continue to keep them clean too (it's not recommended by the manufacturer, but it's what I've been doing and my mats still look good more than a decade later...) It's the same material as the PROlite, so I don't think the break-in period will be that different. But look at it this way - you'll have your mat for a lifetime... so what's a couple weeks of breaking it in (if even that at all)... If you decide to go for it, let me know how it goes, I'm curious!

I love the Manduka PRO series for its grip and lifetime guarantee, but some people don’t find it grippy enough... and then there are also those who prefer natural rubber material... and that’s why there exists so many variations of mats. 😂

Thanks for one of the best reviews out there! IF I get the Liforme, which I like for the grip and the lines, I know not to expect much longevity out of it. Also, I would only get a darker color, as the surface stains.

Thanks for watching and for your lovely comment! And yeah… it’s a good mat, just a little thin and marks easily… enjoy your purchase!

I am resigned to purchasing a few different mats to suit different purposes…. Oh well. Have you ever tried an Iuga mat? It was recommended to me by a fellow yoga teacher/practitioner.

I would love to know your thoughts on cork mats.
@jaimetan3 жыл бұрын
Hey Amy! I’ve not tried cork mats and to be honest, because I sweat a lot in my practice, I’m not so keen on cork mats from a hygiene point of view. They absorb moisture and because they can only be wiped down and not given a thorough scrub, the thought of bacteria build-up inside the mat over time gives me the heeby-jeebies. 😬 But I totally understand if people prefer it from an eco/ sustainability point of view. But my preference is to buy once and not have to buy again, plus have a mat I can thoroughly scrub down. So it depends on what’s important to you! 👍

@@jaimetan Hi Jaime, I just wanted to chime in and let you know that cork has actually been shown to have antimicrobial and antibiotic properties, meaning that it repels dust, mites, mold, bacteria, etc. This is due to a waxy substance created by the cork tree known as suberin. Of course, none of this increases the durability of the mat so on that point I agree with your "buy once" philosophy. All that aside, when the world looks a little safer perhaps you'll have the opportunity to try one out and not feel so icky about the hygiene! [: Nature really is amazing.

@@henry1050 Thanks Henry! That's an EXCELLENT point about cork I didn't know about, so thanks for educating me. :) And yes, that's why at the end of the day it's important to determine which points are most important to YOU... coz mine is only one opinion. ;)

Thanks for this helpful yoga mat review! I love yoga and I practice every day so it's awesome to have some new ideas for different mats! p.s. go back to your handstand videos and add "#Shorts" to the title and description so they are shown on KZbin's new Short Shelf 🥰

Thanks Doc! And OMG! You’re right about the #shorts idea... those old handstand progress videos were just that... more like my handstand diary back then, but I’m definitely gonna “make my first short” with them now. Thanks for the hot tip! 🙌

Yes! I need a mat that has amazing grip. I hate sliding all over them
@jaimetan3 жыл бұрын
I feel you, Chimere! If you're not ready to make an investment in yet another mat yet, you can also get a yoga mat towel to place over your existing mat. These can help with grip too (and a bit more affordable). I have another video on yoga mat towels and when to consider them: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYuXqZ-Cj7Z1pLs Enjoy!

Funny - coz I see the biodegradable part as a pro AND a con too - since it doesn't last as long! Thanks for your support!

I just got a Liforme, and I am not impressed. It’s is noticeably thin and wish I could return it. They won’t refund if it used and only using it once shows obvious signs of being used. I also now think the alignment markings are a gimmick. I’ll use it until it wears out, but I won’t buy another Liforme.
@jaimetan Жыл бұрын
Ah, yeah. I know what you mean - all points I mentioned too. The grip is one of the +points of the Liforme. Those alignment lines I think might be more helpful for total beginners knowing where to place hands/ feet, but if you’ve had some practice then yes they’re probably less helpful (they’re pretty though. Lol!)
