I like how a V8 and 4 cylinder sound related yet so different, but a V10 and 5 cylinder sound damn near identical haha

There are actually 4 cylinder engines out there that sound very close to a V8. The Yamaha R1, Honda VFR800, and some of the Wisconsin V4s sound like a V8 in the lower RPMs. They all have 90 degree crank pins for a cross plane crank. The R1 is a straight 4 too, so its almost like taking a V8 and splitting it down the center. Most 4 cylinder engines use a flat plane crank though. Its not worth the extra costs to balance a cross plane straight 4 for larger engines, and V4s are basically nonexistent outside of motorcycles and industrial engines like the aforementioned Wisconsions.

Depends on the type of V-10, the Ford V-10 sounds completely different than the Dodge. The Ford has an exotic howl to it

The dodge v10 fires 2 cylinders simultaneously. So basically two 5cyl in the same block. They did that to balance it. The ford v10 fires evenly every 72 degrees but has a counter balance shaft in it.

Flat plane v8s sound like 4 cylinders, most b8s are cross plane though, look up a cross plane 4 cylinder and it sounds like a v8

Actually,they have close sounds,because most of 4 cylinders have flatplane crank and most of V8s have crossplane crank.If they have same crank,sounds really close.

So, my brother and I were talking. We were thinking about a dual ram type setup with carbs, and msd. And what you would do is have the intake runners tuned to five different lengths. From a custom plenum to optimize your rpm range. Like a slant six.

If you were doing carbs I would just do dual 4 barrels mounted to the lower intake like a tunnel ram. There used to ba a company that made stand alone viper ecus that could run the truck v10 but I think they stopped production of those 15yrs ago. Idk much about custom ignitions but since there is no distributor I think making a factory ecu work is best.

They go good i had one with a 5 speed and would do 4 th gear burnouts from a stop with stock clutch onky isses ever had w it was rear end (expected) from abuse . And final ending was the oul punp went amd lost oil pressure. One best trucks i ever had and I've had lots gas and diesel new old exc.. she was a trooper if i treated better would still have it . Was a black x cab shortbed. Good ouck w yours man

So what do you think the bottom end is good f[r rpm wise on these? For drag racing hotroding purposes. Like a 3500 lb vehicle. I already know it needs head work for that rpm.

Its a forged crank and rods factory. I think 6000rpm is about the limit.

One other thing. And maybe you don't know. So they use the same length rod as the v8s. Did they decide to use the same pistons as the 360. For lower compression height? I know the compression height on all of the pistons I have looked at are 1.605. I was wondering if I could get some flat tops .060 to make it an 8.2l and bring th compression up to 9.5 or so without shaving the heads.

360 pistons will work. Definitey check valve clearance. V10 pushrods are much longer. 7.70 vs 6.95. I eneded up at 7.794 for my setup.

@@98dodge360v8 yeah check those clearances. They need to be right so that you do not have valve float. 360 pistons look like they will work. It's going to be a side project. And I want it running as much as possible. So I will not change something until I am ready and with all the parts. Besides, with how light those first gen 1/2 tons are. I think 450 ftlbs of torque will be more than enough to break the tires lose. And upgrades will be needed to get it to hook better.

I'm thinking about putting one in a 87 d150 roller I have. Would there be a way to have the ignition work with a tunnel ram and carbs? I am thinking of going all out for a 1/4 mile truck with something a bit different. Also, what were your cam specs after a regrind. I know I would not want to Rev this thing past 6,000. But I was wondering if a cam optimized for the 3500 to 5500 rpm range would help in my situation. Of course after the head work. And other fancy parts added.

Single pattern 218 at .050" and .480 lift on a 1.7 ratio rocker. I had a machine shop replace the stock 1.92" intake valves with 2.02" stainless valves for a viper. Exhaust is the same size as a viper. The ignition is run purely by computer. You need to use a truck pcm to control it. As long as you can do that you would be in the clear. There used to be a company that did a stand alone ecu for the viper that would most likely work as they share coil packs. Use the stock lower intake and build and adapter for the carbs. Its already got a tunnel ram shape for you. I have a video up on cam timing and fuel sync if you keep the injection.

@@98dodge360v8 i subbed to you. And just read the forum you had with all the struggles. Cant wait for for dyno results.. But I think that for this engine it is worth it. Especially with the cam timing. Do you think there would be any way to "weld" in more lift. Would the viper cam core be the same? Considering what I may do with the engine. I may just have to find a core from crowder or something like that.

@@jonathoncouchey7151 Viper cams have a different journal diameter. I cant remember which is which but one is staggered.

@@jonathoncouchey7151 Also they could have done more lift with less duration or a wider lsa but i wanted a strong mid range for towing. I think they were being conservative on the grind.

Yeah, factory wot shift was 4300 rpm. The engine was designed for 1500-3500 rpm use initially

It's better than the ford v10 for sure another 60 cubic inches does help but this isn't any better than a 8.1 vortec from GM

Cause the Cummins is not the end all be all of motors. You think this is slow, ever drive a lifted 12v or 24v? Very painful, even if the 24v has a tune. Plus the v10 is better off road, way more responsive.

I'm honestly not a hater but why put power mods into a truck when they'll never actually be fast why not just have a truck to pull stuff and be slow and get a car to mod and actually go fast. Any old v8 Should be able to do anything besides pull massive 40' trailers. My stock Silverado pulls 6300 pound 32' trailer no sweat only thing it does is wear the rear diff fa

I had a blown head gasket so I took the opportunity. Plus when I pull its 5k-14k so this cam is actually for mid range torque. Helps compensate for the 35s. The budget for new gears went to the cam and head work. I have a 2010 Charger R/T AWD that I use to race and daily.

We all know its in kph? Also set your hemi at 7500lbs, put 35s on it, then talk. I've driven 2005-2008 power wagons with 5.7s that arent as quick and those have 4.56s. I love my 5.7 charger but I would not want it in this truck.

@@98dodge360v8 a power wagon is a 2500 right? A brand new power wagon with the 425hp 6.4 is still slow as shit I have a 2004 ram with a intake exhaust and tune and my 0-60 is like 6.9-7.3 seconds but from a 30 roll is nasty

@@bobbyberrier8175 Yeah this is a 2500 too with heavy hydraulic winch on it. With me in it its about 7500lbs. Judging by your profile pick your truck is only 6000lbs max plus way better trans transmission gearing and its still barely quicker. Throw an average 16ft trailer behind yours and that's what mine is like on its own.
