How to sew slash pockets and a yoga waistband hack. Allegro shorts, pants & skirt (Love Notions).

I am showing you how to sew slash pockets, or slanted side pockets on pants. Step-by-Step tutorial. I am also hacking the waistband to a yoga waistband.

This pattern really is of great value because of all the options available:
Shorts 5" and 9" inseam with optional cuffs at the hem
Trousers at 24" inseam (cropped)
Slash pocket and back patch pockets
Skirt in two lengths, side slits for the maxi
Curved waistband with elastic inside and drawstring
My specifics:
* Size L. My hips are 1" bigger than the size, but because of the 3.5" ease, I kept the size L. XL would have been too big.
*9" shorts in crepe with 1" hem
*Cropped trousers. Added 3" length to have a very wide hem. This allows me to fold them up like a cuff nicely.
*Yoga waistband for both. I use a medium to heavyweight knit with a good stretch and recovery. 6" wide and for the length, use your waist measurement MINUS 4".
*I didn't require fit modifications.

I use heavy cotton spandex, 90% cotton 10% spandex or Lycra. It’s about 10-12oz per square yard in weight.

Yes but medium weight with good stretch and recovery. Like the type you’d use for leggings.

? About yoga waistband....can this be done with a pattern that calls for a waistband with a zipper opening....but not installing zip. Thank you for all you share with us!

Hi Janie. The yoga waistband can replace a woven waistband with an elastic in a pull on style because the waist needs to be wide enough to go over the hips. A fitted pant with a zipper will not be appropriate for a yoga waistband.

Where do you usually buy your knit fabric for waistbands? Most online sources require full yards.

I buy locally in Brazil and I buy full yards. You can get many waistbands from a yard. I’d never want to buy less.

Yes, the pattern says it's possible and sizing down would be necessary. I would actually change some of the sewing construction to make it with a knit fabric, but it's possible.

Thank you Karina for showing yoga waist band, it looks really confy. I am definately going to try them on the duet pants, I made 2,but dislike the original waste band on the pants. Can I use the yoga waistband on a pants with a zipper.

You can’t use is for woven pants with the zipper. You can use it only with knit pants or woven pants that have ease at the waist because they need to go over the hips.

Did you cut the top of the pants off to add the 6" or 3 " yoga waistband?? It looked lower on tour body?

No I didn’t and the width of the yoga waistband would be the same as the fabric original one. Where it hits has got to do with my height (5ft 8”). I’m very long in the rise” so some styles are lower on me and I prefer that. I not a fan of the high waist. Thanks for watching.

You can't put a yoga waistband on the summer caye pants becasue it's not drafted with extra ease on the front. You also can't replace the gathered back for a full contoured waistband. It’s sportswear fabric supplex medium to heavy weight. Ponte roma would also work. It needs stretch and recovery but not be thin as there won’t be an elastic in there :)

No. The yoga waistband just replaced the fabric waistband with elastic inside. No change at all.

It’s not elastic. That’s the point of a yoga waistband, it’s just fabric. I use cotton Lycra with 10% Lycra or athletic knits like suplex or even swim fabric.
