I just finished the book today. It had been a very long time since I picked up a Star Wars novel (TPB of the comic books I have read). I have so many novels to read and I really didn't feel like rehashing the same characters over and over. So this being new, unknown was what drew me to it. I actually found the first 1/3 of the book tough to get through. Certain POV characters dying felt like a distraction and I had a hard time caring about anyone. I felt like, "man I hope the rest of the book isn't the same way because I'm going to be so disappointed." The only character I found interesting at that moment was Avar Kris, which I guess was the whole point. That being said, the second two-thirds of the book I loved. I love the Nihil and how they acted, almost like galactic Vikings. I loved the Jedi we did get to meet and the action in this section was top notch. I will keep reading the next novel and I am very much looking forward to the TPB release of the comic book series. I find myself gravitating more to the comic books because to me, Star Wars has always been more about the visual storytelling and I think movies, shows, comic books and video games are the best way to present that new material. But I will keep giving this series a shot. I hope that it continue to remain fresh.

Really glad Lucasfilm and their publishing partners intentionally gave us concept art in the marketing build-up. SW is such a visual franchise, so their mining of the “design purgatory” for the ships and giving us character designs really added to the experience. It helped me keep track of the Jedi too. Someone accused me of not having enough imagination to want the character and ship designs for the books as I read them, but I argue it’s that I’m not deluded enough to think that my imagination is en par with Lucasfilm’s design department.

The hype is strong with this one...dangit Alex! You're making me want this so bad; great even relative to the Legends books!

I’m half way through it and OMG it’s brilliant. I haven’t been this tense while reading a book in my entire life. Like the first 10 or so chapter actually had me shaking. 💯

This book is great 👍 👌 👏 🙌. I just finished it on audible and it was crazy. If you haven't read it then do so for sure. What I don't understand is is why so many youtubers hating on it without reading it.🤷🤷

I'm glad there are positive Reviews because Many KZbinrs describe The Books as rubbish even though they haven't read it yet . In My opinion it's a great Book.

Most of the channels doing that are just the ones trying to get their clicks. A lot of youtube videos of people who are giving legitimate reviews seem to really like it.

It reminds me a lot of...Dragon Age's world building for some reason? Its diverse, but with top notch world building and potential for stories in it.

Not quite halfway but enjoying it immensely. As a person generally more interested in the Sith story (blame SWTOR) I like these Jedi. All have their stories, quirks and ways of seeing the Force that are unique. I was skeptical about the Nihil (pfft, pirates) but they're intriguing too in their brutal way, especially Marchion Ro.

Now it makes sense with what Mace Windu told Yoda about their ability to the force is diminished. The force users up until the high republic era were amazing.

I've read the first two pages, and I'm already hooked onto the story. Hopefully we get game content in the future for this era, maybe content for Galaxy of Heroes? Would love to see the Jedi Vector Starfighter in galaxy of Heroes

It's all looking so promising! I haven't read an SW book since the Fate of the Jedi series, but it has all the Legends feels that I loved. Really looking forward to the characters developing; 100% in agreement about your take on the characters in this book.

I don't read a whole lot, and am working through the Del Rey books. I have liked a lot of them so far, but regarding the high republic, how important do you think it is to read the junior novels and young adult novels as well?
@StarWarsExplained4 жыл бұрын
We're still in early days, so my opinion might change. The junior novel was good, but much smaller in scope. The YA novel felt more "essential," but even then I think they're going to write these stories with the mindset that people aren't going to read everything. I don't think you'll be out of the loop if you choose to just read the Del Rey novels.

As someone who was incredibly disappointed in the Disney Sequel trilogy, I will at least give the High Republic a fair shot. Although admittedly, I'm probably not going to have time to read it anytime soon, as I already have a backlog of over 100 books as it is. Maybe I'll wait for the mass-market edition, as 90% of my books are such, and it will fit better on the shelf.
@GamingSaurusRexYTube4 жыл бұрын
I was in the same spot as you. Absolutely despise the sequel trilogy and what it did to the OG 6 films. Lost a lot of hope after TROS and TLJ, and after watching TM and the final season of TCW, I feel like they’re starting to turn things around. The new HR stuff, I had serious doubts about it, mainly because of KK being the header behind it, but the new novel is pretty good and the new comic is average at best, which I will honestly take at this point. I also enjoyed most of everything else Disney SW besides maybe half of Rebels.
