I am really glad to see more guys pushing for lighter bows in the trad community. I shot a heavier bow up till a couple months ago (around 52lb @29") with 400 spine arrow right at 10 GPP. It was a great bow that tuned well but I wanted more accuracy with lighter weight. I now shoot 47lb and 340 spine arrow (12 GPP around 575gr) well tuned, and I don't have to tell you this, but my efficiency sky rocketed. Its a blistering set up. I am absolutely on board with everything you are saying and would go so far to say less is more, but as you say also... tuning is critical. Thanks for the great content!

I very recently got serious about shooting my Longbow. I have a Galaxy Black Hunter one piece hybrid longbow. it's 62" and 45# at 28. I draw 28.5#. I'm shooting Easton Classic 500 spine the carbon arrow "tube" is cut 31" I use a 100gr insert with 150gr point, 3-4" feathers, wrap, and lighted knock. Total weight 530 grains and just a bit weak spined. It's pretty much a laser out to 30yds with bare spine. It shoots a Zwickey Eskimo perfectly for as far out as I can still hit three bales of hay. The Zwickey is about 15 grains lighter and might be making up for that little bit of weakness I'm seeing with a 150gr point. I set up the chronograph and shot through it at 10-20-30 yards. According to some you should have 25ft-lb of kinetic energy. According to Easton's calculator at 50 (edit: 530) grains I need at least 150 ft/sec to maintain the amount of KE. So at point blank I'm shooting 164 fps. (with factory string). At 10 yds velocity is 158 fps, 20 yds velocity is 155, 30 yds velocity is 153 and that's as far as I could shoot. If that velocity trend holds true I would retain enough energy out to 40 yards. It doesn't matter I don't have the accuracy nor precision to take that shot. I'm good to 25 and I'm happy with the energy at 25 yards. I've hunted with a bow since I was 18 and I'm 53 now. I've never even took a shot at anything over 30 yards. Almost everything has been under 20. Here in PA there's lots of pressure and you just don't catch bucks walking around in the open. Killed some Elk in Colorado too. Those have all been REAL close. Take care and make sure you come to full draw.

@@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998 I have some Gold Tip Warrior arrows that are 500 spine, 7.4 gpi with 4" feather fletchings. The first 9 I got were 30" (I think) but I had them cut down to 28". Got 4 more yesterday, but leaving them at 30". The field points I have are 4 different shapes and lengths but seem to weigh the same (based on holding them in hand). And according to 2 of the packaging, they're 100 grain. I also have 2 recurves that are 40#, one being a one-peice of 26" long and the other being a take down that's average length (which used to be dad's). Does the bow length effect accuracy? I have my 500 spine Warrior arrows and my 200 gr VPA signal bevel broadheads. I am looking for a 200 gr field point for practice, but most bow shops don't stock those points around middle PA. Hi Jeff. Thanks for the info. One thing I have found that helps me is using gold tip fact weights that screw in the back of the insert. It allows me to add weight without weakening the shaft because it reduces the length of the bending part of the arrow shaft. Very nice for tweaking things without cutting the arrow.
@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998 2 жыл бұрын
Yes they do work great but we’ve had to actually glue them with hot melt because they come loose and begin to rattle inside the arrow so we primarily use solid brass inserts up to 100gr in gold tips but as long as they’re glued they’re great especially for micro tuning point weight 👍🏻

Hello sir am enjoying your instructional videos. I ordered the Hermit 10 due to your review. I ordered directly from Sanlida and mentioned your KZbin channel as the reason I picked their product. That being said, I ordered the 35# bow my draw is 26.5. I’d like my arrow 28” or less and heavy FOC 250/275 upfront. What spine do you recommend I order? I don’t have enough time to order a tuning kit, season in SC starts September 15. I keep my shoot inside of 15 yards. Thanks and I value your opinion.

It’s definitely a balance and too much will cause it for sure but usually it takes around 300 grains up front to start having the effect also arrow length and spine can be a major factor as with how the bow itself is tillered. Thanks and very good question, I’ve personally found that it greatly depends on the type of bow itself and several other factors such as draw length, stored energy of the bow and the type of arrow itself as in diameter but in general I believe once you pass the 650gr mark you definitely begin to loose trajectory quickly usually past 20 yards which is fine in a lot of cases but to me the perfect balance of speed or flatter trajectory and penetration is found between 480 and 580 at least for a 45# bow and the heavier poundage bows do well with more but still not usually past 650gr.👍🏻

Hmm that’s a tricky one there lol, most bows in the 36# range with a 26” draw would require a 700 spine but I’d think you would be okay with a 600 as long as it’s not cut too short like maybe 28” or more and try to run at least 250 grains up front that should be fine for you but I’d definitely try bare shafting one of them to know what is best 👍🏻

See this is getting me. I have a 40lb recurve. If I shoot 500 spine arrows with more than 150gr on the tip, the tail points left like its weak. I shoot 400 spines better. I use Fast Flight string and have a 29" draw, but it shouldn't make that much of a difference. I was wondering if my bow being cut past center is why? My arrows don't have to bend around the riser like on other bows. People tell me I should be using 600 spine arrows and there is just no way, they would slap the target sideways. My arrows are 30" and 32". If I go shorter then 30", the arrow tip hits my fingers when I draw back. I use the 30" arrows on my 45lb too.
