Light, Smooth, and Easy Towing the 2023 Airstream Caravel 19CB Travel Trailer

Hello, Chad, we're the full-time Caravel 19cb couple that stopped by your Airstream dealership to say "Hello." There's an Airstream floorplan for everyone, and the 19 cb is perfect for us. We do indeed average 15 mpg with our Gladiator Sport w/tow package. Depending on the wind, etc., we can end the day with an average of anywhere from 17 mph to 13.2 mpg. We're on our way to the Southwest to spend the winter boondocking. I like the 19' single axle because it is very nimble, meaning it is relatively easy for me to get myself out of predicaments I'm prone to get myself into (when I don't listen to me wife's words of caution). Also, I like the 19 because the power draw on the batteries is less than on a larger unit. It's unlikely that we'll need to hook up our generator during our winter in the Southwest. I could go on, but let it suffice to be said that we love our unit and have no reservations about recommending our setup to anyone who wants to pursue a minimalist lifestyle. Also, given that after 45 years of marriage my wife still loves me, living in a 19' is , for me a very happy situation. It was good to meet you, Chad. I love the Flying Cloud 25FB. But there is nothing I can tow it with that is feasible as a daily driver too. This 19CB Caravel is much better for solo RVing 2-4 weeks at a time. Right now I am going through the trauma of trying to find a daily driver/tow vehicle. Glad to see the mention of the Gladiator. I already have various Jeep ideas and will add that to the list. It seems I will not be buying a Sequoia after all.

It's a great floorplan, I will say that the bed is on the small side.

I went and checked one out at my local dealer and to my surprise the bed was absolutely fine for my wife and I . I’m 6’1 and she’s about 5’6 and we were both extremely comfortable . Put the deposit down and we are picking it up in 5 days !!!

It won't fit in the box that Airstream has there, but I'm sure you could remove that box and build something that would work for the 270ah Battleborn.

I believe the only Airstream you could tow with that is the 16RB.

a 4Runner would tow the 19CB. You will know that you are towing when towing in the mountains. The Caravel 16RB would be easy for you tow!

@@ChadsRVReviews yes thanks! 16 is too small. The reason we’re thing 19cb is we think it’s the biggest AS we can tow with our 4Runner. If we like the AS life we’ll trade up on the trailer and the tow vehicle. Thanks for the info!

The new 2024 4Runner has gone back to the drawing board and will likely now be a new 2025 4Runner. Sadly the existing one is very long in the tooth - despite being a great vehicle. I hear rumors it might get the new Tacoma engine - and that now tows 6,800 pounds.

If you run your vin no. by your dealership, they can verify your tow capacity….(my truck did not have the sticker, so I called..)

They just can’t seem to come up with a bed that doesn’t require your spouse to crawl over you to get out of bed. At a loss to know why they don’t offer a twin bed model.

Airstream keeps failing miserably in the most important area with these smaller travel trailers. Sleeping space. There are plenty of floorplans out there where you get a 60" wide bed and a dry bath in a 19' trailer. EPIC FAIL! Too expensive to not be able to sleep comfortably. Sure, just buy a bigger one... 🙄
