A veritable Lovecraftian horror. It's a sad ongoing truth though how the poor are so often the carriers of rude debts. Have to say I loved the story Steohen , anything that comes slurping out of dark waters is always going to grab my imagination and this was as well written as I could hope for. That your narration smacked it the hell out of the park made it even better. I would say this is one of your best. I lost my best friend last week , tge most awesome Malamute that ever did mute, the stories are helping me get through it still so thank you for your help and distraction. Cheers Stephen, Lee.

I've watched a few videos and you narrate really well. Some can narrate a little too flatly, or have poor variety in different voices whereas you do both well. You have great variation in inflection to emphasis certain words and feelings, and also try to create a different enough voice that we can attach it to a distinct character if there's multiple in a story. I love it. ❤

Spoilers. Interesting story. So the people who live near the coast are the flock, who are all taken when the time comes, while the Shepard's are the one person chosen to be spared and seemingly granted Eternal Youth, at least in terms of ability to live long and maintain muscle strength/wits, if not outward appearance. However, they owe a debt for this, in that they have to sacrifice another person when the day comes, with the thing they hang above the door marking them as the one making that deal. It seems to me like the mother was planning on sacrificing herself rather than continuing on with the cycle, making her son be the new Sheppard, but she got cold feet and was going to toss Moses out, however, I suspect he pushed her out rather than her tripping while trying to do so. As it seems like Moses had every intention of sacrificing Billy and living another hundred years, and didnt want to make it seem like would try to push Billy out like her mother, combined with likely feeling guilt over what he did and what he was about to do changing up the story a bit so the blame wasn't on him. Now the ending shows to me one thing Moses was either wrong about, or Billy purposefully setup, was that the town did not relegate the poorer people to that area 100 years later, as he says that he can see the area where it "was" not "is". Meaning this time they will be coming for the town proper, with the ending regarding what Billy will do somewhat ambiguous but seems to me like he plans on sacrificing his grandson, as he said would pass the debt on to him, rather than saying that he himself would pay the debt. Those are my thoughts on the story at least, rather well done leaving things somewhat ambiguous while still giving enough info to figure the general situation out.

Great story, well read. But I have to think less of the protagonist for considering sacrificing his family instead of: 1. Going on vacation with the whole family when the culling happens. 2. Setting up a bunker that makes 1944 Normandy beaches look like sand castles. 3. Setting up an organisation to track, study, and fight these culls. 4. Secretly mining the whole town to go out in a blaze of glory instead of being harvested.
