Love my Gen 1 Strike. I will upgrade from the mirage drive to the 180 soon though 👍🏻. I think the Hobie Outback is an excellent comparable. I fish the swamp/marsh in Louisiana and she performs well at a discount to others of comparable features and quality.

Great video... i really like how you talk about the true pro's and con's of a kayak. You really should do your own opinion video rating list of sit-on-top. 1-10 rating on price point, stability, comfortability, speed, how well it tracks, how easy it paddles or pedal. You could make into a couple video seires and on last video which kayaks would be your top 5 buys.

Thanks for the honest review. I understand the negatives but I feel my fishing on slower rivers vs big open waters might make a difference I was still going to get a lightning because of your first vid on them. I’m hoping they have some in stock next weekend when I plan on ordering one. If not they still rock for stopping production to help with the ppe crisis going on right now. Keep up the good vids and I’ll keep watching.

That kayak should be a lot cheaper. For 200 bucks more you can buy the Old Town Topwater PDL, which is a far Superior kayak.

Is the build quality (thickness) of the Lightning kayak same as the Hobie or does it have more flex to it?

Edward Weeast I compared it to the compass before I bought my lightning. The lightning felt much thicker and stiffer. (That did not sound right). That’s why I want lightning over compass.

Alex, I'm looking for my first kayak. In your opinion what is the best option for under $1000. I want to be able to use it in small rivers and lakes. I don't need a drive but I know some can have a drive added later.

so many options, vibe sea ghost 130 and 110, old town topwater 120 regular, one that you can add a drive alter is the nucanoe flint. you can also check the bonafide rs117, what brands get your attention? The pelican catch pwr 100 at $1000 is an amazing buy too
