Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII - Bhunivelze Final Boss Fight (A Legend from Times Past)

Bhunivelze is the final story boss in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Beating him will earn you one gold trophy:
A Legend from Times Past - Proof of the true savior, who overthrew even the god of light to lead the people to a new world. [Gold / 90G]
Before going into this fight, you should definitely get the Ultima weapon. It can be obtained in the very last room before the boss fight. You have to complete four trials to unlock it. This special weapon grants +2500 attack & +2500 magic. Bring as many recovery items as you can carry.
The boss fight consists of four stages. Bhunivelze will completely refill all of his HP in each stage. Make use of your overclock ability as often as possible and cast Deshell & Imperil to make your magic attacks more powerful. In the last stage his attacks become significantly more powerful, so save your overclock for this point and unleash your strongest magic attacks to stagger him quickly.

Thanks for the help on how to beat the final the boss. I was having trouble staggering the last form and used the video as a template on how to setup the garbs. I was able to beat this boss playing normal setting on the first playthrough.

The gameplay reminds me Genshin Impact today, instead of character changing, it is outfit changing. The only difference is you can customize your skill slots of course except when there is already a set skill

I used this strategy and it worked like a charm. I didn't have the Executioner's Axe, so I used the next best thing which was the Death Herald (if I'm not mistaken). I also accidentally used Army of One when he had like a thousand HP left. It all worked in the end, though. Thanks for this video. Helped a lot.

So question - when you unlock New Game + and your items carry over, specifically what is not carried over? Like should I liquidate all my non-essential items beforehand so I can reap in the extra Gil or do items to heal the Chocobo, monster drop items, and Recovery items all carry over with you into New Game + unaltered?

The best spells for staggers are regular spells (high spam capability) aero,thunder,blizzard,fire

Aerora or Thundara are the best, they hit multiple times and don't have the close up of -ga spells. Fira and Blizzara are slower so Aerora and Thundara are faster. Aeroga and Thundaga hit a lot of times, but you can't really chain they, only cast one at a time.

I was so mad when I realized their wasn't many doom battles in this one. I love the suspense and the heart beating noise and knowing every second counts. I thought reapers where gonna be brought in so they could cast doom or death sometimes because I saw the resist to instant death and stuff through the game. Well that sucked :/.

Denis Lujan well double deity is a rare drop from the final boss. Cauises sword is a drop from his fight, and Ultima weapon you get from doing that optional. thing at the end if the game. but oh man is it worth the effort for ultima weapon.

How are you so overpowered? I don't remember this guy going down so fast, and I had a build focused on staggering. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure I had to stagger his final form twice before he went down. I also remember getting my ass handed to me on my first playthrough. I had to start a new game and intentionally trigger NG+ to get everything I needed before I was able to beat him. I don't understand how anyone can beat the superbosses in this game.

***** Oh I figured it out. I changed Thundara to another Blizzara. Saved up all my 8 EP for last phase, started trying to stagger him and right after he's done his last cast of whatever spell, I just pretty much chained OC and tried to make it so that when your blizzard ball hits, make it so that your lighting hits him the exact same time. So switch back and forth with blizzara and thundaga then get him staggered. After that I just popped a refresh pot and thundgada him till dead.

Im guessing you on normal, Just made it with my own tactic. Use Caius weapon mixed with aerora (that tornado) and another schemata have 2 skills with stagger power B. W8 for the angels to show up go all out until you lack atb and turn on clock to use aerora with chaos weapon. You dont really need overclock when hes staggered just use ultimate weapon along with Attack lvl4 and you will be fine.

I can't even stagger this bitch and I had 6 EP when I got to his fourth form. Overclock, spam spells, repeat! Nothing happened. I've hitting this guy for almost 3 freaking hours. What gives?

yeh is pretty hard to stagger his forth form, his stagger recovery is actually quite fast, the only way to stagger him is to relentlessly attack him, but start off by using a physical attack like quick slash then switch to magic garb to build up the meter, your only problem would probably had been the fact that you had to defend yourself from his magic attacks thats y even spending all 6 EP u still havnet managed to stagger him, it is possible to stagger him even without using EP, but only if your very good at switching between garbs and perfect attacking, you might know this by now but use invincible garb setup on him then that way you will nullify all his magic attacks without having to guard against him and carry out the onslaught of building the stager wave continuously without the worry of dying.

Yeah, I beat him. I finally just decided to go save all my potions for his fourth form and mediguard spam on all the others. That way, I didn't need to guard during his fourth form. And I don't use the invincible garb exploits because it feels like cheating to me.

not really cheating imo because the whole setup is balanced by making you hv maximum defence for either physical or magic damage by sacrficing aroun 90%+ of your offensive powers. and plus you can only have choose either to be invincible to magic or physical attacks you cant have both in the ONE single garb, if u want both u will need to sacrifice 2 garb slots for the both. but anyways think am getting off point here and sorry for sounding like am having an argument i get carried away sometimes lol XD but i understand what u mean but i really do think that setup isnt an exploit it was there for the players to discover i mean if u have the guild you would see they encourage you to use that setup too. but hell well done in beating him!

+Ryu primeus As TVTropes loves to point out, light does not necessarily mean good at all. Biblical case in point, Lucifer as an angel was known as the "morning star" and "the light bringer". More specifically however the Final Fantasy XIII Mythos does not revolve around light and dark equating to good and evil. Lightning's benefactor and the goddess responsible for the spark that makes humans human, was Etro the previous Goddess of Death and the Underworld. Lightning references becoming the new Goddess of Death at the start of the fight. Most of the other gods throughout the game, the Fal'cie had participated in a plan to sacrifice millions of humans at once to open the gateway to the afterlife where they hoped they could summon the creator god back to the world. The deities of this mythos/pantheon are rarely qualified to be called benevolent. Bhunivelze here, wants to destroy the world and recreate it as he sees fit. ​@floodkevin4716 It's not bad It's just not your preference then. I'm assuming u prefer turn based and more traditional elements than the combat actually being bad or you're bad at it. This battle system is arguably the best in the entire series. It's 10-2 and 13's combat combined and 10-2 despite not being great had one of the best battle mechanics in the entire series. 13-3 was the perfect mix of atb turn based & action combat that actually was challenging and flowed well.
