It was just past midnight, the night between August 1st and Second, 1982. I was bicycling home just outside of Cheltenham - as it was still and warm, I was only in teeshirt and jeans, also, we didn't care about helmets and stuff back then. Although there was plenty of cloud cover, it was quite a bright night: some nights seem not an absence of light, but a presence of darkness! Then, off in the distance, I saw a lightning show not unlike that; flashes and the occasional streak across the clouds... and the silence of midnight stillness punctuated only by my slightly elevated breathing. Well, I stopped on the verge, had a cigarette and watched the show for about half an hour, didn't I? Again, though, the stillness and silence... I almost expected to wake up the next morning surrounded by Triffids - but THAT didn't happen! It's amazing to see such a wonder, and even without a way to record it, it stays with you for the rest of your life... Thanks for the upload.

Heat lightning mate. Looked all intracloud. Brilliant. And you had the perfect spot for it. Easy to be oblivious to it, oddly maybe even directly underneath it. Ive heard but never seen that sometimes, at the right angle, a person walking past could look like they’re in the pages of a page flip picture book type thing. With the constant light flashes as they walk. Nature is awesome. Lucky sighting 👍🏻

Just wonderful Mark. Spectacular. Brilliant for managing to film that!! We were up in North Wales and we’re sitting out looking back across Snowdonia. Daughter says wow!! Look at that. We watched this for about five minutes. But it was nothing like you saw as it was a long way off. Tried to film it and got a tiny bit on film but not great. Sheet Lightning. Love it. Such Power!! Hi gerry, yeah it's one that stopped me still for sure. I don't think it was that far away judging by the clouds. It's what I now know to be a dry storm or heat storm. Known for their lack of noise. That show looked like something you''d have to be in Venezuela to see ! Which direction was it from you ? Somebody commented that they saw it from Glos next door to you. Looks like it was at least 10 or 15 miles away if you didn't hear thunder ? I saw nothing of it down here, so it don't think it was south of you. The sky looks clear other than where the storm is too.... Great that you captured it on camera ! I've only seen a minor version of that here, in 2013, and almost overhead Mark, so it was quite noisy. Hi Mark, look into H.A.R.P. the interference with the world's weather has become a reality, for some decades now. Yes this is definitely not normal and very possibly man made.

Alright there Paul. I can tell you back in the early 90's while we were tripping on acid we said humans were impacting upon weather systems. This though I think was a heat storm or dry storm - common in the tropics. It was awesome. I hope you're well out there mate. All the best. Mark
