Wow.......My Great Grandfather got struck by lightning outside of Rigby Idaho back in 1926..........he was driving a horse and buggy, and just topped the crest of the hill.........when lightning struck him and killed him, and the horse...........Rigby is just about the coldest part of Idaho.........what made this so unusual is that it happened in January........lightning is common there in the Summer...........but very rare in the Winter........consequently my Grandad has to drop out of BYU in his junior year majoring in accounting.......he took over his fathers postal route, and was not able to enjoy the life he had envisioned.......as he retired from the postal service.............

@@timsmith5644 I learned that the difference in charge is so great it means nothing. It’s all about proximity. So holding a golf club with a steel shaft or a wooden baseball bat is the same if you’re next to a 80ft tree, the tree will likely get struck before you would.

Lightnings follow the easier path to ionize, which is the path that has the bigger variation of ions in the atmosphere. That's why a pool can get hit by a lightning even if it's surrounded by trees 70m tall, buildings and high antennas, if there's enough ions, then the lighting will hit the pool, no matter what
