Man the NBA was so much fun back in the 1990s. The 80s through the late 90s were the golden days of the League. The talent was just outrageous and the game was so pure. Rodman was a joy to watch. Met/came across him once. (I grew up in Michigan, was a hardcore Pistons/Rodman fan)Was during Detroit era, pre tattoos etc. We were at an amusement park, and at some point I overheard that he was there(also heard vanilla ice was there but never seen that lol) Eventually we see a huge crowd of people walking towards us. With a really tall skinny shirtless guy in the front middle, which was clearly Dennis and everyone was following him. It was like slow motion, he was leading, everyone behind him, a swarm of admirers all trying to talk to him, but he was just walking forward, alone, w a slight smile on his face enjoying his day as if he were by himself. When I saw it was him I'd run to a lamp post close by and leaned against it, I was just in awe, I couldn't believe I was looking at a real life superhero (to me), I stared w an astonished look on my face, and as Dennis moved closer he looked right at me for a few seconds, as if to let me know that he saw me, he saw that I was having a moment, I was seeing a hero. I was too frozen to do anything but stare, but at least I have the memory.

To be fair, back then they allowed the defense to get away with commiting more fouls against the offensive player. Now, they allow the offense to get away with more "illegal" moves like lifting, travel, etc... while also being hella strict when calling fouls by the defense against the offensive players. So in short: It's easier to defend back then but harder to score. Now, it's harder to defend but easier to score.

They'd still be quite effective, although with adjustments to their game and effeciency. Similarly, guys like MVP Rose, Curry and Kyrie could still run circles around guys from the old era--of course, with a few adjustments as well to their level of efficiency.

Imagine a scottie pippen in the late 80s and early 90s as the 60s went on but for 2 other players. Also the celtics focused much like the pistons on a deadly, efficient defense. Not necessarily their destructive offense. I understand your points on the subject and respect your opinion what bill russel did is amazing. In my own opinion I don't put much stock in the amount of rings someone has as a end all and be all. Yes it has some impact but as basketball is very much a team sport one individual player can't win a match even if he were to score 80+ points and make 10 blocks a game.

Rodman was the man. With the way the NBA is today, he'd probably be in jail for assault for playing defense. (Defense is not allowed in the modern NBA). P.s An average NBA game is literally a three point contest with some layup drills in between (they'll call some fouls to keep the game close and make sure the stars get their stats. The ideal situation is getting the game to a last second shot)

The game today is an abomination to what it was. When Steffanie scored his 62 the other day it was unbearable to watch. I've never seen so much bullsxxt pussyfied posturing behind and infront of him while he's shooting. That's exactly right. Defense is half the game. Mark Aguirre averaged over 25 ppg in Dallas and was one of the top scorers in the league as was Adrian Dantley. Aguirre benched himself in Detroit because he knew how special Rodman was. The guy was well past his prime with the Bulls, in his mid 30's, and was still BY FAR the best rebounder and defender in the league. In many ways he was a smaller Bill Russell. Russ was better at controlling the paint and help defending in the half-court but Rodman could guard all 5 positions at an elite level and also was a dominant transition defender with his speed and motor.

First and foremost - he never for 1 SECOND on the court concerned himself with having to score so of course he would be in position to get more rebounds than other. Honestly - do you think if Shaq, Barkley, Robinson, Malone ... the list goes on and on NEVER considered scoring, only getting in postion for rebounds that they couldn't have had similar rebounding production? @@brian4180 sure, except to box him out you had to stay glued just as if he was a scorer and when you have teammates that are some of the lost prolific scorers in the game (jordan, isiah thomas, shaq, David robinson) you'd be relegated to an afterthought anyways, see kevin love with LeBron. Rodman was my favorite his entire career, he had multiple double digit scoring seasons before leaning into his persona and that was just off put backs and running the floor and contrary to popular belief could actually shoot a little, multiple games of multiple 3s with the bulls. Obviously it'd be sweet to have 5 versatile threats on both ends, but also imagine if James Harden had Dennis Rodman balancing out that squad?!
