regarding why Diana gets hurt by the light.... the blacklight shows Diana so she can't disappear and thus gets hurt by the ordinary light from the flashlight. this was a good horror movie, not amazing, but just good...you should see it :)
@StevenSeed008 жыл бұрын
To add to this, it makes sense if you think about it. When there is no black light and she gets hit with visible light, she disappears so you don't see it burning her, but it's still happening. When there is black light present you can see how the visible light affects her. This is why her skin looks all burned up in the black light. Visible light always burns her. I think they did a great job of establishing an premise and sticking to it. Definitely full price for me!
@DownUnderDude6 жыл бұрын
exactly. i was super impressed by how much effort they put to make sense outa the details. Thats smthing most horror directors are lazy abt cs its easy to sell a few jump scares anf make the money. ppl not gonn care anyway as long as they get scared, horror movie viewers are stupid anyway. NOT TRUE. I think ppl shud give more chance to these kind of movies. cs its very clear that they put quite a lot of effort and taleny to it

the thing about the part where the ghost gets burned with the light is that she is exposed with the black light, AND THEN when you shine the strong light at her, she cant disappear because of the black light exposing her. BUT when there is no light, no black light and you shine the light at her, she then disappears. in one way or the other i think it would totally make sense if they had an alternative ending where one person holds the black light exposing her while the others just shine bright light at her burning her down.

One of the few horror movies to legitimately leave a mark on me, not necessarily from fear, but effectiveness. Her weird, humanoid but animalistic silhouette (especially her goddamn claws) is the stuff of nightmares and as somebody who doesn't get scared during horror movies, it still puts me on edge seeing it. Honestly could be the best outright horror film I've ever seen in terms of creep factor. By the way, whoever came up with the poster, I hope they got paid well cause it's masterfully minimalist

Korey is right about your brain blocking out trauma and certain events from your life, and it unlocking later and all coming back to you actually. I’ve experienced that exactly. I didn’t even know I had “forgotten” things, but it took a specific event to take place, for all of it to come back to me. Doctors can explain why this happens, because it’s involuntary.

I saw this as a matinee and it looks like it might be a rental at best. We were 7 strangers and the only ones in the auditorium, and we shared a lot of laughs over the plot holes, bland dialog, the predictability, issues with story logic, the emasculated and unrealistically servile boyfriend, and lack of meaningful stakes. 2 people left the auditorium way early, and myself and others recurrently ducked out to visit the concessions for snacks, the movie was that non-scary and not engaging. Also, the set up wasn't that great to the extent that when there is a very grave moment, I never really cared for any of the characters and consequences of said moment. By the way, the movie and short is not as original as you might think: there is a horror movie from 10 or so years ago called Darkness Falls, which this movie Lights Out basically borrowed its motif from. And regarding the cop thing, I'd have to say that while cops disregard people it ain't to that ignorant a degree. If a kid says an intruder is in the kitchen with a knife, that registers with the officer who then takes the necessary steps and course of action as opposed to just running in there gun-ho. Especially after the partner gets killed easily, the second cop would then reassess and decide what to do as opposed to the cliche "you killed my buddy, I'm bum-rushing you" charge. Frankly, forget the kid... common sense alone would dictate that the cops take the light in there to explore the house since it was so dark. Anyway, I think a rental for some laughs is what this one should rank as.
@odec18318 жыл бұрын
What were the plot holes and issues with story logic?
@meg-k-waldren8 жыл бұрын
KvngOC I'm not trying to be rude, but there were too many issues with this movie to go into. Plus I'm not trying to give spoilers on here (the movie just came out yesterday). If you want you can tell me what you think was nice about this movie other then cinematography (I know that was good) and I'll respond and without spoiling things hopefully. I give you something general, no spoilers: the stakes in the movie aren't apparent and clear, and neither is the theme. Why don't you tell me what the theme was? We all know it centered on family dynamics but what was it? Let's see how clear it was to you (and I do know theme can be subjective, but even at that, it still should be clear).
@odec18318 жыл бұрын
If you don't want to spoil the movie and if there was too much to go into then don't worry it's fine. I haven't seen the movie yet and I didn't really have high expectations for it, but I was hoping for another entertaining horror. Those are the reasons I decided to watch this review and check the comments to see what other people thought before spending my time/money to go see it. I think I have a more realistic expectation now regarding how much or how little I will enjoy the movie though.

i usually dont qgree with Koreys reciews but he was dead on on this. for me personally as a fan of the good horror genre, this was the proly the best movie i saw after the Ring 1. It did a lot in such a short time and had wayyyyy more logic to it than most horror movies. It also makes the effort to set the mood so it doesn't feel like ur just scared at a silhouette in dark ( which is clichè asf) cs theres smthing more to it and tht mood u carry out of the theatre too. Not many horror filmmakers can do that. It has jump scares but the movie doesn't depend on yhe jump scares. it depends in the plot. Id say Lights out was clever film making. Also every person acted really well in this movie even Theresa Palmer whom I don't like in other movies that much

Huge horror fan and went to see this when I was originally planning on waiting. Stupid decision. It is not full price. Completely agree on rental. This is not The Conjuring 2 (which had it's flaws but didn't rely on jump scares this much). The best moments in the entire movie come from the comedy and not the horror. Before I Wake which was recently released is a much better horror movie all around then this. The CGI monster is better and so is the whole idea. This movie plays the same trick over and over again. It actually felt longer then 80 minutes. It's not bad, it's just average.

It Follows was absolute shit. Some of the dumbest characters I've seen in a while, and a monster that you could literally *walk* circles around. Everyone who died or even got hurt in that film had it happen because they did something stupid. Everyone. It's not creepy, it's not tense, it's not scary, it's not good, and I'm tired of people riding its dick just because it was "creative". My ass. The sales pitch for that movie was probably "Imagine if Slenderman was an STD". I just needed to get that off my chest. Haven't seen Lights Out yet, but I will. Oh yes, I most definitely will.
@meg-k-waldren8 жыл бұрын
If you hated It Follows, then Lights Out ain't for you cause Lights Out makes It Follows look like an Oscar nominee for best screenplay.
@JesseEnclave8 жыл бұрын
meg I doubt that. The fact that there's even one character with a lick of common sense puts Lights Out above It Follows already.
@meg-k-waldren8 жыл бұрын
RedMusic 8250 It Follows didn't pretend to be something it wasn't though: it didn't take itself that seriously and played on its core strength, which was its theme. The spirit following people was creepy, I thought. It wasn't scary or horrific creepy but it was definitely a bothersome and lingering creepy... and that really augmented the movie's theme. At the end of the day the movie was fatally about STDs. Lights Out, on the other hand, was about zero. The little bit of theme it had, the movie doesn't even flesh out.
@JesseEnclave8 жыл бұрын
meg Did you actually see It Follows? It took itself seriously as hell. It tried so damn hard to be creepy that it entered the realm of parody. And stayed in that realm by having EVERYONE be dumb as a brick and play it completely straight. Some of those actors were trying to give the performance of their lives, especially the female lead. Wouldn't be surprised if she perfected the art of crying on command just for the movie. Yeah, "bothersome" is the right word. When your monster is more of a nuisance than an actual threat, there's a problem. I can't speak on the overall theme of Lights Out since I haven't seen it, but if it's not a safe sex PSA disguised as a "horror" movie, it's already doing a better job than It Follows. You know what It Follows reminded me of? Just about every 80's slasher movie that tried to hammer home the "premarital sex is bad" message, resulting in the omnipresent horror movie trope of sex = death. At the very least Lights Out can claim to be somewhat unique in that it's built around a premise that's only been done a handful of times. Off the top of my head, the only movies I can think of that had something similar(monster can't handle light)are Pitch Black, which was more sci-fi/action than horror, and Darkness Falls.
@tyes778 жыл бұрын
Well the budget for It Follows was much smaller than this movie. I feel people take the budget into account as well as it being a new idea. This is no different from darkness falls for me personally.
