The explanation is a lot simpler. With absolutely no irony meant, Star Wars is *not* science fiction, it is fantasy. While visually depicted as science fiction, every reality in the movies follow the rules of standard fantasy. Once you understand and accept that, everything else falls into place. I love the films, so don't get me wrong, but it's not science fiction, it's fantasy. Wonderful creatures and magic powers and the list goes on.

I've said the same thing for a while. Heck, it even follows some of the most cliched fantasy tropes. When it comes to sci-fi, Star Wars is at most a sci-fi rom hack of classc fantasy. Simple farm boy meets an aged wizard who reveals that his (the farm boy's) father was once a magical knight who was betrayed and murdered by a member of their knightly order who became an evil black knight to help the all powerful evil wizard take over all the land. Armed with his father's magical sword, the boy goes on quest to save a kidnapped princess. Sidekicks are a roguish ne'er-do-well and his (more-than-animal-but-seems-like-an) animal companion. Heck, even the opening crawl "A Long Time ago in a Galaxy Far Far Away..." was Lucas's scifi reimagining of "Once Upon a Time in a Land Far Far Away..."

Yep, quite true,@@AustynSN. Fun without a doubt, but "Back to the Future" is much more hardcore sci-fi than any Star Wars adventure.

We have to remember that the original lightsaber in the first Star Wars was just a prop to start Luke's heroes journey. It was no different than excalibur. Originally Lucas never wanted the force powers or the light saber to be overused the way it is now. Jedi powers have grown to the point where they create more problems for storytelling purposes. In the original movies the force was gentale nudge to help the characters out. Now they have to write excuses why they don't use their force powers to solve every problem. let's be honest, the rescue scene from return to the Jedi would be a joke nowadays. Why go with the elaborate scheme when could just walk in and wipe out the whole tower.

It kind of pisses me off that he mentions Rey's yellow lightsaber despite the fact that the first person to have a yellow lightsaber in the films was Plo Koon (one of my favourite Star Wars characters).

Oddly, since we can at least cite a sliver of reality by linking lightsaber energy to plasma, something which humans can easily create right now, lightsabers make more sense scientifically than artificial gravity, which even the tiniest fighter ships have in the Star Wars universe. I just saw an episode of Ahsoka in which a woman was piloting a small fighter in zero-G space, and yet her long hair hung down the whole time as if she were sitting in a film studio on Planet Earth. Which of course she was. Whatever implausible technology achieves this one-G miracle, it must add some mass to the craft at the expense of maneuverability and acceleration. It would need to be justified by necessity - and why would you ever need artificial gravity when strapped into a small spacecraft?

If they had said the lightsaber was focused force power from the Jedi handling it, it would have saved many issues. As it is. It makes no sense as a plasma blade with infinite cutting power.

the fact that disney rewrites canon for every episode of every show they do makes it hard to keep track. but originally, lightsabers were colored by the crystal selection, with a sith saber's color created by the synthetic crystals they favored. the construction of a lightsaber also required use of the force to bring it into tune; which pretty much meant only force users would own one; though anyone could handle one that was already tuned - though they were extremely likely to injure themselves before becoming proficient.

The reason lightsabers dont change colour when someone else picks it up is because once a kyper crystal changes coulour the change is permanent even if its weilder dies, the only exception to the rule is when a kyper crystal turns red as a crystal can bleed at any point though once its bled the chamg is also permenant.

Couple more lightsaber issues: - The users should wear Kevlar gloves - Easy way to defeat opponent, hit the opponent’s lightsaber handle. This will shut it down, then simply kill the unarmed opponent.

Thoughts as watching... I had once heard that lightsabers are actually very light. This is the reason for only a force-sensitive being able to (safely) wield them in combat. Because they are so light they almost don't exist, the force is required to have successful control over them in any action more complex and dangerous than cutting open a dead tauntaun. The whole "won by defeating somebody else" thing really does make the darksabre seem a bit too much like the Elder Wand.

You can turn a lightsaber on and off with a switch so why isn't that being used in duels?? Sneaking past a block or strike by turning off your lightsaber opens a ton of opportunities to kill your opponent.

What if the reason bodies don't implode because jedi can use the force to control the output of power of the lightsaber to make sure the Saber didn't implode the person they were cutting the limb off. Also the weight of the lightsaber can be manipulated by the force, example being when toda showed Luke how to raise a several ton space ship

Nobody using them other than force sensitives is kind of like samurai and katanas in real history There was a short moment when only samurai wore them while everyone else used guns And afterwards they just became collectors items So there’s probably douchebags across the galaxy with lightsabers hanging in their gaming rooms lol

As canon: You would actually build your own lightsaber. Making every lightsaber unique and having different capabilities. Physics are not the same on every planet in the star wars universe. What a bad attempt to point out flaws in something you obviously have zero knowledge on...
