Lightworks 14 - Problems with Transitions

Finally someone explained the overlapping problem. I am new to lightworks and this has been confusing me all day. Since I added a whole sub-clip, I kept getting the dang insufficient overlapping. Thanks so much!

I have two 20ish second clips and neither are trimmed. This method still does not work, even for a 10 frame dissolve. I'm ready to give up on this program and fine another video editing program. It shouldn't be this complicated!

Hi, your video is very good for me as someone who started with cutting videos a few days ago. I would like to quickly ask you something else if that's allowed. My videos are looking good and I figured out how fade out the audio. The audio sounds good in Lightworks. But after the export I always hear at the very end a kind of noise like a crack where I cut the audio that is longer than the video. Any idea what the problem is ? Thanks in advance Michael

doesn't work for me, i don't have any in and outs, i just cut those clips in VLC as highlights, put them together in lightworks and now wanna add fade in/out between all the clips but it gives me this error, so if i have it centered, to and from here, it's all the same... another thing i can't find is how to do this for 20 clips at once instead of every single time... i just can't believe there is no option like this, but i can't find it anywhere

The problem i have ran into is an error that says "There is insufficient incoming and outgoing media" this happens all the time when i try to add a transition centered, just like your first transition. I have also had the same error you discussed and still no go. I do exactly what you do with my transitions and it gives those errors. the first clip is 15 seconds long(an intro video) then the clip i want it to dissolve into is about 15 minutes. i can never get it to work. I have been able to add a trnasition ONCE by accident and the issue after that was about 2 seconds of the audio was gone from the second clip.....

Now the only thing I can think of, is that you’re trying to add a transition to two clips, and you’ve got absolutely no frames to steal from. So lets say you have a clip that ends, and there are no extra clips at the end of this clip in the original clip. You then put another clip after this, and again, there are no frames in that clip to make a transition from. In this case Lightworks would not be able make that transition work.

ESH Tech so to add clips, i would need to do what? Is adding clips different than marking the ins and outs? Not gonna lie, windows movie maker is alot easier to add transitions to a project. I tried today and got exactly what i was looking for. HOWEVER, this does not mean i am unwilling to learn lightworks and more advanced features:) thanks

If I will apply dissolve to my video then in between clip A B and c For first clips A and B dissolve works good in fact best But if I apply dissolve to Clip B and C then at the end of Clip B video is all black ? Can u let me know why this is happening ?

I can guess this is something to do with how many frames the dissolve is trying to use in clips B and C. Remember, you put a clip in the timeline that has no extra frames to steal from, transitions find it hard to work.

thank you your videos are definitely the best of all the Lightworks tutorials I've tried! Is there a way of speeding a clip up but gradually ie. not the whole clip but that it gradually gets faster or slower?

Thanks for the kind words. For gradual speed ups or slow downs, a trick you can use is to cut your clip(s) using the C key, and then right clicking on each cut clip and choosing "Speed". So lets say you had a clip, and you cut it 3 times. You would end up with 4 cut clips. Right click on the first of them, and choose "Speed". 100% is normal time, so if you then made it 110%, it would be 10% faster. Right click on the second clip, choose Speed and set this to 120%. Do this for the other 2 clips and set the speed faster and faster. If you play the clips now it would go from fast, to faster to faster and so on. One thing to think about is that if you make a clip faster, it will actually get shorter. What I mean by that is if you have a clip that lasts 10 seconds, and then set it's speed to 200%, it will be twice as fast, and now will only last 5 seconds. So when you're cutting your clips, you might want to think about this, especially if you're trying to match the video to music.

It only half solved the problem... I have a fully cut up and edited sequence and this works on some cuts but on others it can't seem to "steal" frames from the other. I've tried centered here, to here, from here, on one clip or the other or on both. Still not working

The secret to this is to try and never use any clips / subclips where your in or out is right at the start or end of the clip. So, if you have a clip, and put the in exactly on the first frame, you'll never be able to use a dissolve at the center - there's just no frames in that clip to steal.

I have no problem getting the effects in but when I add them, the whole video starts lagging and skips the transition. Any advice?

I have the same problem on a fairly decent MacBook. You have to remember that transitions push your computer to breaking point. You can try closing all other problems when you work on Lightworks. When my laptop lags, I normally drag the red play head through the transition manually with my mouse just to see if it’s working.

@@techismad it's still sending that message about overlapping media. And it does it for every clip I try. Doesn't matter if it's in the middle. Or it wants to completly add it to one clip or another. Like how the little grey dissolve box pops up on yours, mine won't do that for some reason. So it just makes the end of my clips dark. Hope all that makes sense. Thanks for the reply.

If you double click those clips, do they play upside down? As in, if you play those clips outside of Lightworks, are they still upside down?

i fund out that videos that are recorded verticaly when import them into lightworks they dont apear upside down, but videos that are recorded horizontaly(the way a always record) are upside down. got any sugestions of what should i do?

i found another way. it is to have the camera filming upside down, bu i dont relly feel comfterble doing that but aniways i will do it so if you come up with a solution please tell me, thank you and keep the great videos.

ANONYMOUS JOSE sounds like you are shooting on a phone? I had something similar when changing between videos shot in portrait or landscape on my phone. You can use one of the FX in Lightworks to rotate your videos as needed.

You mean the black bars on top and bottom of a video? Any time you have black bars, it means that your video is a different size from the normal size of a screen. So if you have widescreen, and watch it on a normal laptop, you'll get black bars a the top and bottom of your video. You can basically use a basic 2D DVE and adjust the size of your video. Note: If you adjust a video like this, you'll end up losing some of the picture after you resize the video.

My issue is with audio...sometimes it creates a gap, sometimes not. Just had to redo a bunch of editing because the audio was , because half the time the transition creates and audio gap, other it does not. Annoying.
