My gratitude to Shirakawa sensei. Lately, I watch a lot of your videos and I'm glad that you introduce aikido to the world with unique ways. If my late sensei is still alive, probably your videos will inspire him to do same training session in our dojo. But, I quit to train few years ago. Because, when my sensei passed away, it affected me a lot.

It's not too late to reconnect... In our dojos, we've had 60+ year olds join, train, become fit and flexible and strong again and earn their shodan. My sensei lived a Budo path - training with a select group of Japanese teachers and then spreading his learnings to us. Our shihan drew a picture for our dojo - not a calligraphy, but a smiling face and "Aikido is happy friends all over the world".

Excellent discipline. Patience and determination with a great instructor are key. Thank you.
When an attack happens, the best defense is not to resist, but to move with the flow of the attack, and to use that energy to one's advantage. Gratitude master!

I LOVE this channel. This channel proves what I have been saying for years, that Steven Seagal was the worst thing that ever happened to Aikido. He totally misrepresented it in the Western world, causing confusion about what its true intended purpose is for the practitioner. Even after years of analyzing this, it is still difficult for me, as a Westerner, to define as its philosophy is NOT Western but purely Asian. Aikido is not a combative art, but more of a method for mind-body mastery.
Domo Arigato Sensei, a great reminder. Our students also had shiko races and similar hurdle exercises. Best of all was when they got their turn to throw the blackbelted adults at the end of class. The youngest would do a sacrifice throw, falling down while in katatetori and propelling the adult with great speed. A power in aikido is being able to all train together - men / women / children / adults / young / old etc while hurting no one.

This is just like the aikido we practice in ft. Lauderdale. The only difference is sensei Shirakawa interacts with other martial arts. He's proving it's effectiveness!
Arigato gozaimas Sensei you inspired me to remember my Karate Do Go Yo Riu in Torreón, Coahuila Mexico inn1973. An instructor called Isao Nakamura excellent Sensei. One the professor in charge of the club Karate Do said oh you want to jump ? Told to the whole class We were like 30 students ( teenagers) He made us jump it was too hard to jump. The professor started teaching the katas don’t know how to say it Japanese nor English. We all were astonished how we could fight with several man at the same time. I felt respect for Nakamura and the professor. Tonight when I watched your video I learned couple things and look easy how to handle’s hand opponent. Thank you Cesar N.

The nation that loves kneeling the most has already regarded kneeling as an art!
Sensei Shirakawa, please share insights on training shikko and kaiten-shikko! Should a person think of hips? Should a person think of rotating feet, first? Is the goal to keep shoulders even and level? During rotation, "kaiten shikko", does one move eyes with axis, or keep them fixed on one spot - to help dizziness? (using Google Translate; please excuse errors and awkwardness in Japanese 🙏)
