I don't think he doesn't have the creativity to it I think he is so caught up on wanting get back its keeping him stuck. He can't just make an album about forgiveness and healing because he isn't healed he is still about the fuckery of drill music but he is slowly changing by making songs that are introspective. I'm rooting for durk he is a true underdog making it out was crazy enough but for him to be gaining major sucess 10 years later and after being dropped and with so many tragedies is a insane. Who else has fallen so much and still been climbing they way to the top. I wish he leaves the gang shit behind but that's pretty much his family and how do you just forget all the people who have died over his success. Not on some illuminati shit but so many people including producers and mangers and artist and family have died and durk has survived I think he feels it necessary to keep the beefs still alive other wise he may have to accept they died for him to progress. I feel conflicted by durks album too but it is called Almost healed. he still stuck in his ways which I mean is drill but the jcole feature made me have high hopes he would be the change needed unfortunately like he stated at this point we stuck. I would give it a 7. if it was more like the first few tracks it might of been a classic. I also think he should have had Alicia narrate on a few more tracks to have a cohesive project. But overall I'm still proud of durk I feel he is still slowly progressing which is amazing I remember him from the 2010 era and I would have never thought he would make it thus far so every song and day he is alive has got to be a blessing

I think ppl expect evolution from drill rappers, when its really not in them. Pop Smoke had tremendous upside, but we never got to see how that wouldve been due to his untimely death. The majority of drill rap/rappers are entrenched in that 1 dimensional sound and subject matter, which leaves them pigeonholed. They dont really have peace within themselves, which puts a block on their creativity and songwriting ability. We should start looking for the next sound within hiphop and let Drill phase out. Imo.

5:58 though it likely wasn’t intentional, I think it’s kind of poetic how the LP as a whole is at odds with itself - just like Durk. No matter how much he comes to terms with the toxicity and trauma of the lifestyle he grew up in (first half of LP), it will always be a part of him and he will likely continue to partake in this lifestyle for as long as he is able (second half of LP)…the poor production quality is inexcusable a this point in his career tho haha
@insideroutside Жыл бұрын
Exactly it seems slightly intentional. It is called almost healed meaning durk still be in the fuckery of drill and half way through there is a song called at this point we stuck. He at a crossroads with himself does he go for success and leave the revenge behind or does he get his get back and stick with the bros but never full furious and become mainstream pop. This album makes me feel confused and I think possible that's what durk is going through. He wants to be a married man and make love songs and praise Allah and ask for forgiveness but he also wanna to smash hoes and hang with killers and get revenge. Durk is complex as a person but he do need to build his vocabulary and literary devices and become slightly more lyrical if he really wants to go pop cause I would have loved to hear him try to match jcole on all my life.

I feel the same exact way about this album. I felt underwhelmed at the end. I think Durk needs a writer or a team that can help him put his records together better. I feel like your often too hard on artists, especially the artists with bigger names. I was surprised that I pretty much agreed with you for the most part on this review. You weren't too hard on Durk. I would say 5/10 Is fair for this album. It has a few decent songs that have replay value, but alot of the album Is forgettable at best, and repeatative at worst. I feel like releasing All My Life early as the single may have hurt the album. Made expectations too high. If Durk could have been consistent with his delivery from that track, this album could've easily been an 8/10. But he lacked consistency. DruHill, At This Point Were Stuck and Belt2Ass are all decent though. Brought out a different side of Durk we don't see much. I think this is definitely a step in the right direction for him though, in my opinion. A little more effort into the next project, and it could be a real banger contending for album of the year.

Can we talk about how all these "ft juice wrld" songs are all juice wrlds songs? Durk had one verse, juice literally sang for the rest of the song, how does that make it lil durks song?

Bc it doesn't matter whos rappin on the track the longest if Durk hit juice up and wanted to do a song juice would be the ft
