I have to be honest man.. For a lot of young black people there is no "pain" to this word. We use it as slang, it's the culture. That's why, if no thought given, its not offensive,

Personally I’m black and I don’t agree with what you say. The word is offensive whether you want to try to make it like since young black people use it it’s justified. I grew up in sc and I don’t want no white person saying it and I don’t want any other race saying it. Now as far as black people we need to stop using it period.

And you can’t tell people what pain their in over this world or topic I grew up in the south. A lot of people I know they don’t want to hear nobody white saying it so tbh white people dont need to say it for their own sakes but as black people we have to stop making shit acceptable then getting upset because you see how dumb china Mac look that’s how we look as a race.

In high school I played basketball and hung out with mostly black kids and used the n-word liberally, until my 18th birthday when a black friend of mine told me I needed to chill because I was dropping it too much. I was excited and tweaking, but I realized that just because I had a pass (even explicitly stated) it still bothered people. After that I stopped using the word as much. Now I don't say it at all because at worst it causes people anger and discomfort and at best it doesn't add to anything I have to say. I can easily call someone my brother/my guy/my dude/my man and have a much more positive effect. Just a white boy's two cents.

Im black. 26 years young. That last part hit home with me. I went to a highschool with alot of white kids, so in turn, i had a lot of white friends. I lived in a black neighborhood though, so "nigga" was in my vocab at a young age. I used to throw the word around all the time. But as i got older/wiser and did my own research (as well as seeing all the police brutality) i just couldnt let it slide anymore, but i had already given my friends "a pass". I decided i wouldnt say the word anymore, and boom, almost instantly my white friends stopped as well (atleast around me). Their were still some guys i had to respectfully explain as to why i didnt say nigga anymore. I felt exactly how chris rock looked in that clip. My stomach turned watching because ive felt that type of embarrassment and shame before. You let one white person call you a nigga, next thing you know everybody in the room is calling you a nigga. Say the word if you want to, but dont expect people not to get offended.

I’m a white man, 23 years old, before I was 17 I had never said the n-word in a conversation or by myself nor would I say it when I rap along to songs. At 20 I went to a concert where I got to meet one of my favorite rappers, and after the show when I went to buy some of the opening acts CDs, one of them was there hitting on a girl. He asked me as a white kid if I had ever said the n-word before, I was shocked and the girl he was hitting on looked at me with disgust maybe because I took too long to answer. I told him the truth, I might’ve had it slip in private while rapping in my car but I’d never said it to someone or at someone. He said “It’s fine everyone is going to say nigga anyway, go ahead and say it it doesn’t mean anything” over the 2 years I caught myself starting to say it to shitty drivers with a quick “nigga please” and I would always say it while rapping along. I didn’t think much until my white wife started saying it around me (she has a black half-sister who might’ve been saying it too much also) and my Mexican friend used it all the time casually as black people do and all his white friends started saying it too. It made me uncomfortable, and it made me think to myself that I shouldn’t use it in any context at all.

Why do a lot of black people care so much about how their ancestors suffered? I’m sorry but I just don’t understand. I really don’t understand. I’m serious. I don’t understand. You were never a victim of slavery. Your ancestors were. This isn’t me trying to belittle black people or anything. I honestly and truly just don’t understand why so many black people think there’s some kind of personal injustice against them. We’re all the same. We all treat each other as human beings. I.) This is a complex issue. II.) China Mac isn't a hypocrite. He showed growth. He doesn't use the word anymore. He said he tries not to because he fails sometimes. III.) I'm surprised that you didn't mention Lil Pump, 6ix9ine, and Lil Xan using the word even though they are Latinos. IV.) I used to say the word all the time. As a Mexican/Chicano living in East LA all my homies who were Latinos used it too. Now, I try not to. I usually don't but sometimes I fail. The thing is though there is a double standard. I've seen Black Folk defend 21 Savage's line about Jewish people and I've seen Black folk use terms like Vato and/or Guey which are Mexican/Chicano terms that we use instead of the n-word. When I've talked to my friends, who are not Mexican/Chicanos and are using these terms, about not using these words cuz they're like the n-word, they always say it's not the same. It annoys me. I'm not tryna create more tentions between Black people and Latinos cuz that's not needed. What I am tryna say is, how do you expect respect without showing respect? V.) That's the thing with China Mac; he realized he can't ask for respect without showing it. Thus, he's taking it out of his vocabulary. VI.) Ultimately, I feel like this is a topic worthy of discussion with Black folk. (+)

The jewish money thing was way overblown IMO. It's positive stereotype and not a slur necessarily. It's the equivalent of a non-black rapper using "hops like a black man" as a bar, yet everyone treated like he flatout said the k-word. We need to set a better precedent on how to respect each other without walking on eggshells all time. If can't highlight a general positive attribute about someone's heritage even if it is a stereotype, then i fear where we're headed as a society.

Mexicans in California say the n word more than anyone in the world. Black folk saying Vato is not the same considering that Vato isn't a slur so that doesn't apply. Your comment is on point though. It just confuses me how other races have such a hard time not saying the n word when black people easily can give it up.

I don't know @billion billz_, here lately I've seen my white brothers and sisters do ish to my black brothers and sisters that would have ended in an ass whipping from when I was young. People are doing too much now. Like in my hometown, Dallas, a white man clocked a black woman in her head with a heavy man fist 3-5 times and walked away. Or all that calling the cops business on, say a black man being a realtor while being black. I haven't seen so much ignorant shit in my life that didn't end with a bonafide kick in the ass. I have been dreaming about creating a bunch of little mini groups of good white people of all statuses around the country with a number that behaves like 211 that goes to a dispatcher so black people in situations like these can text or call and the lil' white group comes out and handles things. lol I've had enough. Been had enough. I have no idea what to do about any of it. Being mad at home isn't fixing anything...I don't see what is so hard about loving and respecting each other. Or at the very least leaving others alone even. We are all in this boat together. Can you imagine if we worked together? omg

I used to feel the same as you when I was your age (I’m 29 now) but I’ve gotten more sensitive to the word as I’ve gotten older. I’m not hurt by other races saying the word nigga - it’s more that I’m annoyed that a lot of people don’t seem to respect boundaries when it comes to black people. It’s *easy* to not use racial slurs - it in no way diminishes the life of a non-black person to not say the n-word. How little respect must you have for a people when you can’t even avoid using a single word? That’s the thing that gets on my nerves- the lack of care for the opinions/concerns of black people. There’s already too much of that going.

I feel like Black people never had a say in being labeled Niggas. The only thing that has changed is people don't say it to our face as much, but turn on Fox news or go on the internet for five minutes and it's obvious that racism didn't go any where. We made a positive out of a negative by calling each other niggas. I just don't understand why everybody else is obsessed with getting a pass to say it. I don't call other races by their respective slurs nor do I have a desire to. Why everybody gotta be vultures.

I grew up in black cultured family and in my city between al walks of life. Black friends always refered me as 'my N****), especially being active in Hip Hop culture. With that said, I would like to approve and recommend this message. I share the exact same sentiments and experience as the narator of this video (Justin Hunte) in using this contaigious word and only tent to tolorate it in propper context. Being from Chicago, in High school everyone used it. But when a black friend asked us to never use it towards him, that's when I did all I could to stop using it. Its been ten years since High School and sometimes i have to stop myself because everyone in the hood uses it. And if you tell them they shouldn't say it they are quick with the "but I don't mean it in a racist way?" Their personal intentions mean more instead of how it sounds.

I’m Hispanic in Miami and every Latino says it here. I understand if they grew up in the hood, but when white Cubans or Latinos in general that grew up in the suburbs say it, it comes off as really cringey and I personally find it annoying. It’s like they’re trying too hard to be something they’re not. They grew up in $500k+ homes, what connection to that word can they possibly have?

Outside perspective. English is my second language and although I mostly learned it through rap music not school that particular word did not enter my daily vocabulary. It's very consciously a word I don't use, because to me its history is baked in. To me, there are a couple of words with such a toxic history, they should just die out. Language changes all the time to reflect culture. I want there to be change, even if its just in small steps when the big ones seem to be impossible.

People getting mad offended. Rappers apologizing like fake thugs. Stand by what you say or don't say it all. Classic cases of not thinking before they speak. I feel it's a linguistic crutch. In the hood, being articulate isn't always taken as good. Having a mouth piece, being a smooth talker is tho. It's the remnants of pimp culture. But being articulate seems condescending. So I can see why the word is used to identify or become relatable to a culture you aren't immediately a part of or stand on the fringe of. It's like hip hop's version of a bow or hand shake. None the less, all rappers end up word nerds anyways, even if they're making up their own words to avoid seeming too intelligent for their immediate community, out of fear of being ostracized.

I get what youre saying but all cultures have internal things that are taboo to outsiders. When rap began it was our inside thing. Very very few white ppl were into it. Vh1 and Mtv especially. It was the musical equivalent of FUBU, for us by us. When corp America saw it had future potential for untapped profits they cashed in and still no white ppl wanted in. It wasnt until the Parental Advisory stamp that it blew up. So now we are letting outsiders still dictate our culture bc we choose to be gatekeepers on what we will and wont tolerate. Every culture can set their boundries but we're not allowed to. Regardless of what a person feels is right or wrong its our culture, there is levels to our culture and our culture although it had not always been PC have been very respectful of other cultures. We have always been a hard/harsh culture even with the way we show we care but no one can tell me how to move in my culture who is an outsider to my culture.

Harvi Dent I tend to disagree with the "hip hop is black" thing. The boogie down Bronx, and the whole of new york at that time, was made up of all races. It is a youth culture thing if any ONE culture can take ownership of its origins. Being 40, I've grown up with it. Being a Latino, I know there were hundreds if not thousands of kids who were straight Latino, Cuban, DR, PR, Spanish, and then Italians, Greeks, any culture of youth disenfranchised by main stream America at the time of Herc, Bam, and Flash creating the break. Graffiti always had multi cultures. Lee? Spanish. Seen? Italian. Cap? Straight up white boy. So when you say "our culture" that seems a bit secular in nature. EPMD wanted the crossover, and then it happened. This vernacular is no longer a race thing, it's a CLASS thing. He'll it's ALWAYS been about Classism. And when we're all below the poverty line, shit changes real quick. If all you listened to was Pac growing up, then you spoke like Pac no matter what your skin tone. The age old argument is how hip hop culture can agrandize and glorify it's language and behaviors and want acceptance and then when it gets it, it be like "nah fuck Y'all this is ours." Can't have it both ways. You either incorporate and get money, status, respect, power, influence, or don't and stay poor communal folk music. Both have it's advantages and disadvantages. But I hear your point and respect it. I agree. We did use to be harsh and that was the point of my first sentence. Eazy wasn't no bitch. Chuck D? No bitch. Beastie boys? No bitches. MC Serch? No bitch. I don't want to hear apologies about behavior, or words said to back peddle. I want my culture, our culture to act like a culture, and not a pop music genre. I want accountability. I want a man to stand by his word. That has nothing do with growing as an artist, that's some youth to adult shit. I want my rap reckless and on the pulse of youth. I want the youth making these decisions of where to take rap and the culture. Even if they run into the ground. It was mine when I was 5, it'll be mine when I'm dead. Just like it will be theirs. Just like it was owned by kids in track shorts and hi socks and Kangol on cardboard and boom boxes during the NY Summer Blackout.

Miles Prower nah I feel you. Feedback matters. But these are grown ass men. Men who make money, feed families, employ people, have experienced a world many of us will NEVER see. They have the wherewithal to hire a PR person. He'll Killer Mike has TWO. 😂 if not the. Stand by your statements. Explain WHY you made em. If you say "I was just stupid talking out my ass" then aight homie, no worries. But OWN that shit don't be a bitch and apologize cuz of callout culture. For one, that's just not on brand. Two, not on brand is bad for business unless you "selling out". But I still feel your point. My question is, WHY does it take a backlash. These fools know what they saying and how it'll be received. Although that Jewish line reaction is a bit over the top. Jews been known to be a frugal people, a trope used in tons of media. Are we now going to retroactively censor and call out every instance of it, or just the black kid who said it in a rap line? That's on some dumb shit. 😂😂😂

@Welsed There is nothing wrong with apologizing when you fucked up or seen something you need to change. In fact, it is a real thug that is smart enough to know this. But you are right about thinking before you speak; especially these days when we all know all of us are being recorded in some kind of way. "Linguistic crutch" that is true; for some people. Dude, you are being intelligent here; watch out now.

I used to use it when I was younger, but I used to use it to mean ignorant bc that was the definition I found in the dictionary. It actually offended one of my homeboys bc he knew what I meant by it. Now, I don’t really use it bc I don’t think it is endearing. I feel like negative power still remains with the word depending on who uses it. The reactions should tell you what kind of power it holds. I also believe that it can still be degrading to black people when we use it. There’s a difference between “what’s up my n....” and “fuck that n....” or “ima kill that n....”

Saying that American Jews came to America for an economic reason isn’t true. The majority came as refugees after during or right before WW2. The reason they got rich is due to helping each other, using each other as connections and keeping a tight community. Source: I’m Jewish :) What the African American community is lacking is that sense of community, I’ve seen people hating on black successful people, while we celebrate our Mark Zuckerberg, Steven Spielberg and Jerry Seinfeld, we respect them for their ingenuity, originality and humor. The black community should celebrate Barack Obama and Neil Degresse Tyson instead of 21 savage and the Migos. That’s just my opinion, feel free to discuss with me, I always enjoy a good healthy discussion :)
