People, especially men, need to understand that while women do suffer violence from complete strangers, more often than not it is at the hands of someone they know and trust. My neighbor when I lived in New York 30 years ago pushed his wife down the stairs and she died. He got away with it. Her father knew he did it and was threatened by her husband. I moved in 1995 and I wish I knew if he was ever found responsible for her. Women can’t even trust their loved ones.

We are in different circumstances but I had to humble myself and ask for help. Homes, cars, money , things don't matter, pur lives matter. Protect yourself. God had bigger and better plans for Lilly. However, I cant even begin to imagine that sort of loss as a parent. I dont know I could survive it to be honest. I have 4 daughters and 2 sons all grown and on they're own and I worry for them a lot. I dont trust this world we live in anymore, its a scary place. This case always brings tears to my eyes whenever I come across it. Lilie was a beautiful angel. I could see that she was a kind loving person just by looking at her picture. My heart breaks for everyone who knew her. It's infuriating that no one was held accountable for this crime. Private institutions always sweep things under the rug and they mainly care for their reputations. This crime is so senseless and heartbreaking. RIP Lilie🙏❤️

Heard of this case before and it just makes you so angry. 5 freaking weeks for a life. I'm not someone that calls suicide cowardice except for in cases like this. If you have to resort to that to escape your horrible actions and accountability and the backlash then you are a coward. I think that is what we should remember Paul by. He died a selfish cowardice monster. Lillie was just living her life and being the wonderful person that she was and was taken away.

Towards your last comment about Paul Thijssen's parents, I'm sorry to be that person but in most cases, people like Paul exist because of parents like his. It's not spoken about much, but l feel strongly that they have something to do with his behavior, like spoiling him on many sorts of ways.

I am home tonight from my ex's domestic abuse, no domestic assaults trial. He plead in the middle of my testimony. He plead to two comparatively minor charges, assault causing bodily harm and breach of conditions (for breaking the non contact order). The judge didn't get to see his confession letter or see the pictures of my cut eye. And if I make a victim impact statement I can only comment on the charges for which he's been convicted. I am so upset. I am confined all over again, just like I was for those years living in fear. I still sleep with the light on. And now I cannot say to him in my last words to him what it felt like to be kicked in the face, punched, to have his hands around my throat and then have him immediately claim that he hadn't done that. I can't make him understand what living in fear of dying is like. When I told him that I was not willing to die for this relationship he said absolutely nothing. Soon afterwards he was arrested and removed. Months later I saw him and he was devastated that I had moved on. He thought that we were still together 🤦‍♀️. Addiction to a person is very dangerous. When someone has issues with compulsive behaviours they will act without considering the consequences. They are self motivated, as I suppose everyone is to an extent, but they lack the ability to truly empathize and appreciate what others experience in response to their actions. Narcissistic, immature, and mentally unsound. Whatever happened to "If you love someone, set them free?"
