Bill……what can I say…..but thank you so much…..my dad always taught me to look after things,and because of your goodwill i have managed that…..I,m sure he would have said…..that chap is the salt of the earth.. The buffer repair was genius…….

My pleasure. Lima models are always nice to work on and something a bit different with a bit of a back story just makes it more fun. Keep an eye out at the Gnomes Legs and next layout update!

Interesting model! Pretty solid the old Lima locos. Had to replace the tyres and service my Deltic recently and a pleasant, straightforward job. Big Autumn job is to finally get on with adding extra guitar string pick ups to about six locos!

Well done again for showing your "mistakes". I regard them more as informative cul-de-sacs or useful diversions from which the rest of us lesser beings can learn.

Will have to get one of those. With all that goes wrong on my railway a locomotive branded F F S would fit in perfectly

Hi Bill, I bought one of these locos in 1975 when on holiday in Switzerland. I still have most of it. I actually have the middle bogie from it on my work bench now. As a 15 tear old lad I tried to convert it to look like a Southern class 71 loco. I must admit not one of my greatest achievements. It is sat in a box somewhere in my collection.

What a pleasant little diesel loco that is.

Always nice to see something different. I have a few German locos and they are quite different from the usual British fair.

Hi Bill, it would probably good for all of us to film our strip downs if only to help reassembly. Thanks Peter.

Nice to see a nice locomotive from a different country and it looks good. I agree with you about the Lima ringfield motor. I have 2 Lima diesels and they both run perfectly. The workmen got tired standing around watching you fix things so they thought they should have a nice sit down instead. It's a tough life.

Great video Bill, you should receive the plastic fabrication of the year award 😁, that buffer was mint.

Excellent work..... don't worry about the manky brush.... it'll either turn up or it won't...the important thing is you've still got one.....👍🙂 Glad to hear the hard working lads are having a break....😎😎👍👍🤔🤔

Thanks again for another interesting and different video Bill. I get told losing things is an age thing, but I don't believe that can apply to me yet! Mind you, with my glasses on I can not see things very easily, try taking them off and try again. We always learn from your explorations.

3:58 It is the earliest version.. the 1982 version had a different number, and these were later re-done with cardan shafts and spoked wheels

You did an excellent job, I'd never thought of a cable tie to make a buffer, I usually use modelling styrene. I use technical petroleum jelly to lubricate gears and the pick-ups in Lima electric and diesel locos. It guarantees excellent running and electrical conductivity.

Jouef make similar SNCF buffers ... they have square shafts but could be filed round.

Another enjoyable video and a good job well done as always. It might just be my eyes or it could be the camera angle but that loco seems to be more like OO gauge rather than the slightly smaller HO gauge, thus I could see it fitting nicely in your layout if it was yours to keep.

Iv'e got the same type of model you've just repaired. Mine is by Roco who are a Austrian manufacturer. I brought in the late 1980's it had traction tyres as well as lights front and back depending which way it was running.

I have a couple of those locos but they are Roco and Marklin
@attuslebeard5133 Жыл бұрын
That's a good tip re the cable tie buffers - quite a few Lima HO locos have this pattern buffer so it's annoying that no spares are available. BTW the loco is an Re6/6 - Lima did an Ae6/6 too which looks similar but has normal 6 wheel bogies rather than the tri-bo arrangement of the Re6/6

So it is. Thanks have updated title and details.

Hi Bill, What's your view on adding extra pickups to Lima & Triang diesels? I'm sure I watched a video in which I saw you do it, but I've failed to find it in your back catalogue. I guess adding them to Triang locos would be more of a challenge as the dummy bogies have plastic wheels... I have a pair of both Deltic & Class 20 Lima diesels. The biggest issue I find with them is their propensity to collect dirt on their wheels, which seems worse than with any other manufacturers locos.
@jeffreysmith156 Жыл бұрын
By the way, for an HO loco, it does not look too small on your layout.
@glengreen3629 ай бұрын
Hi, this is the second time I've watched this video, the reason being I bought a Lima DB E410 electric locomotive for a restoration project. I found that I have a loose retaining clip for the gears, and can't work out how to refit it. It's identical to the motor you serviced on this locomotive, but I couldn't see how you refitted the clip. I know the clip holds the main gear in place, and that there is a small tang that goes into the slot above the spindle cog, but when I have that in place, the clip just sits on the top of the two little protrusions , causing every thing to sit there more by an act of faith. What am I doing wrong?

Bill may i ask what type of T-cut do you use as im curious because T-cut is normally used for car paint or something?
@oobill Жыл бұрын
Just ordinary T-Cut. Yes it's meant for cutting paint but it acts as a metal polish. You could use Brasso or any other metal polish but always rinse off with something like contact cleaner or IPA.
