I demo a 2020 Limited Edition Epiphone 59’ Les Paul Standard. Apparently these are very limited.
The weight is 9.21LBS
I tested the frets for uneven frets and there are none. The build on this guitar is immaculate.
It has a CTS Pots and a Switchcraft 3 way toggle switch.
CT’s POTS
Pickups: Gibson Gibson USA Burstbucker 2 & 3
The fretboard looks and feels like Rosewood. It may be Indian laurel. Since
Video Correction: I said I was playing out of a 65 Deluxe Reverb but I was not. I was playing out of my Fender Princeton 68 Reverb Re-issue.
Thanks for watching!

According to Sweetwater, Gibson asked retailors to pull the guitar for a bit. They are going to launch the guitar in October. Also, great demo, Mike. I appreciate folks who are regular players like me demoing gear as it would sound when I play it. I always find it tough when studio pros do demos who can make a cigar box guitar sound amazing. The overdrive sounds less buzzy in person than this audio I would guess but I think the clean tone is a good representation. I bet this is the first demo video since this soft release. I have the Aged Dark Burst.

Matt S Wow. Thanks Matt. I appreciate your kind words and also info on why they removed the listing for it. I haven’t put it down. I was comparing it to my Gibson Les Paul and it looks and feels to me like what a Gibson would release at a higher price point. It doesn’t feel like any Epiphone Les Pauls I have owned before. Don’t get me wrong they are great quality but this feel, the pickups and the nice 3 way toggle makes me forget it’s not a Gibson model. Thanks again Matt. Take care.

@@MikeFromNashville You're welcome, Mike! Keep it up, man. I agree that this guitar is a cut above most almost all Epiphones I've tried. I've owned 5 Epi Elite / Elitist LPs from Japan. This guitar is easily on par with those and looks better. The Elite / Elitists retailed for over $1000 almost 20 years ago as well, so these days that would be about $1400. The Elites have better quality woods, better grain cuts, as well as one-piece necks, and two-piece tops but the Epi 59 has a much nicer finish. My Epi 59 also had a 2 piece back which is another step up from the current 50s and 60s LPs they are selling that are multi-piece with veneer. Also, as you noted, these things really have a thick, warm bass and mine has incredible sustain.

Mike From Nashville my sweetwater rep told me this on Monday because Gibson was overwhelmed with pre orders. He said the official launch date is October 6 and that’s when Gibson told vendors they can put the listing back up. I was wondering about it myself bc I have the honey burst 59 on pre order and was worried something was up since it is the covid era lol. Great video brother! BTW mine is scheduled to ship in late October. I forgot to add that lol. I can’t wait!!!😜🤘🤘

They are making these like crazy apparently, because here in March of 2022 they are for sale all over the place. A local shop has four beautiful aged cherry, which haven't sold in a week since they got them. As for the fingerboard being Indian rosewood - that may be true. I've noticed that some of the earlier versions of guitars that come with laurel fingerboards sometimes used Indian rosewood, which is similar, but distinctly different in grain pattern and color, so yours may be rosewood (?). I'm trying to resist buying one, since I've always been a diehard LP Special man, not liking what the maple cap does to the sound, plus it makes it more costly and heavier, so who needs it...? Please not me - I have too many guitars already! My latest find was a 2010 Wilshire Pro with humbuckers and that awesome batwing headstock - the best $500 guitar I've ever played, maybe the best period - loving it (bad back and it's VERY light)......!

Hi Mke, great review as usual really cool! But I see the price is $799. Couldn't you find a used good Gibson Les Paul Studio for that price? Do you think it will be the same thing?
@MikeFromNashville
@MikeFromNashville 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good point but, that’s if someone just wants a Gibson brand named guitar. A lesser priced Gibson Studio is not the same as this guitar. The specs, tone neck finish everything. You could play a Gibson Studio, then play this guitar and love this guitar more. So it’s really a preference but if your goal is to buy a guitar with Gibson on the headstock and that’s all the money you have, you may choose the Epiphone because you love it more. I know I would. I have a studio and this feels better quality than that. Forget the brand name, if you just play this guitar not caring about brand or even comparing you love or not love it because what you love about a guitar is unique. So best thing to do is just play one to find out.

Then again if you play this Epiphone live it will drive up sales after they see that it doesn’t matter what the headstock says if your rocking it live and people are digging your riffs. It’s a pretty big neck. I typically like more slim necks and this is the biggest neck on a guitar I own. However I can’t put it down and it doesn’t seem to bother me. It has a good feel. Honestly I play it more than my Gibson Les Paul because I just love the fatter tone it has. You could always return it if it’s too big for you. It’s worth checking out. @MikeFromNashville
@MikeFromNashville 3 жыл бұрын
The description on this guitar has changed so many times my head is spinning. The ads for this were originally saying Rosewood Fingerboard, but when you reach out to Epiphone, no this is an Indian Laurel. You are right, Now if you look at an ad for this guitar I've seen fingerboard material "Other" and it shows under the features as "Mahogany body with AAA flame maple cap, aged gloss finish". I was one of the first few people to get this guitar last Summer, so the descriptions would say one thing on one site, and say something else on another. If you search around you can see on Guitar Center's site and other site they don't say AAA Maple Cap Veneer any longer, they dropped the "Veneer". Here is an example of an earlier ad below, notice it says "Veneer" yet the new ads you see don't mention that the AAA Maple Top is truly a cap or if it's a AA Maple Top Veneer. I don't know what to believe, but I do know this guitar kicks major butt and that's all that matters to me. Check out this link : www.gearnews.com/epiphone-collaborates-with-gibson-custom-shop-on-new-59-les-paul-model-available-for-pre-order/ Limited Edition Since it is a limited edition model, don’t hang around too long if you want one, as I can see these selling like hot cakes. Especially at this price point. The guitar has a mahogany body with a maple top and a AAA figured maple veneer, paired with a mahogany neck with a vintage correct long neck tenon. The neck has a ’59 Rounded “C” profile, and an Indian Laurel fretboard with a 12″ radius and 22 medium jumbo frets. The specs aren’t exactly like a true ’59 Les Paul (no rosewood fretboard and maple veneer), but for this price, it’s close enough. Especially with those BurstBucker 2 and 3 humbuckers and quality wiring loom.

That guitar has a long neck tenon. Seriously is half way up under the neck pick up. They don't even put those on gibsons anymore unless they are custom shop or special editions that cost more. The thing i don't like about epiphones is the veneer.

this one is supposedly a solid top not veneer
@monmixer
@monmixer 3 жыл бұрын
@@vrabek222 They do put solid maple caps on them. they put a thin sheet of veneer over it with the finish on it. You aren't going to get a flamed maple cap on a guitar in that price range. The maple cap under the veneer is not flames. the veneer is. I don't know what year they started it but it wasn't long after gibson bought the name.

Your going to love it. It absolutely feels like a Gibson Les Paul. They really went all out. I guess that's why a limited supply. I am just always skeptical of "Limited Edition" They throw that around a lot. Look at the Epiphone "Limited Edition" 335 Pro. That's been "Limited Edition" since 2005! ;) I guess this really is.. Looks that way so far since I can't even find a place where people can order them.

This model should have Grover Tuners like the Epi 60's LP.
@MikeFromNashville
@MikeFromNashville 3 жыл бұрын
I guess so but the tuners that are on this are great and I wouldn't change them. This is not like any Epiphone Les Paul I have ever played. Ever. Honestly it's Gibson Les Paul quality. Every Epiphone Les Paul I have owned had something cheap about it. It may have looked cool but the neck or wood was cheap. Or the wiring, not this 59. It's pro quality. Even the feel of the neck feels like my Gibson Les Paul. This is a special guitar. They should make this guitar all the time not just limited edition.

I'm not crazy about the cherry color. I'd like it much better if it was a little faded. Maybe Gibson should have overseen the paint jobs.
@benjamins9121
@benjamins9121 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don't like the cherry bursts either, even Gibson has been using it a lot in recent years, and the colors are overly vibrant/ deep. To me honey burst, or iced tea burst are beautiful. Something like Page's #1 '59 or Clapton's Beano burst at the darkest. A light burst without a clear separating line between colors, with more of a fade between colors is what's best to me.

@@benjamins9121 I totally agree! Back in 2000 a friend of mine who would later work for Gibson as their NW Representative, got me a beautiful LP 1960 Classic Honey Burst. Except for on the horn, you can barely see any burst. And when I move it around in the light it disappears at certain angles. It also has some really nice wood grain. She's a beauty!!
