@@synchc While I mostly agree with you, I do have one little counter-point to throw in: When you pay Tom Cruise to not be Tom Cruise, you get Les Grossman from Tropic Thunder, and that is flat out the most entertaining thing he has ever done, in my book, so sometimes it works out. But usually, yes, you pay that sort of actor to do their thing because they are damn good at it. Problem with Leto, I guess, is that he just doesn't seem to have the warm charisma that someone like Cruise or Smith has, and that goes a long way towards likeability.

I think the 'charisma vaccum' comment hit the nail on the head, there is nothing there to like and so that's why he usually comes across as shit. I think it's also why his better roles are the ones like in Blade Runner when he's meant to be a bit of a weird, distant freak because that is who he is.
