Linda Ronstadt is an American treasure and possessed the most beautiful voice on the planet. She has a forty year catalogue spanning multiple genres and has won every award and honor imaginable. She could sing anything and your time is well spent exploring her music. To answer your question, she stopped singing due to a neurological disorder. 🌺✌️

I was blwn away watching Linda doing a whole show in spanish with old mexican songs from her father's era. Her voice control unmatched and is a powerhouse! ❤

The first video "Reeling in the Years" ... I was at ! Nov. 1976 at the Universal Amphitheater in L.A. The best concert I've ever been to ... no flash, dancing, explosions, just the best singer I've ever heard and a great band !

You guys should hear hear version of Desperado, or Tracks of My Tears. She sounds amazing. Phenomenal and iconic voice. One of the best female vocalists of the last 60 years. A clear, full, strong pure voice, and she did so many genres and styles in her career and sounded great in all of them

I'm a huge fan of Ms Ronstadt! I saw her live in 1978 and she was perfect!! Side note: Linda had NO formal voice training until way after she became a pro. Such a beautiful, natural voice!!

Was it basically the same band as the one in the first clip here? When I saw her in 1980, Waddy was still there, but she had Russ Kunkel on drums instead of Mike Botts.

This is a very refreshing break from the endless Rush reactions. It would be amazing to see you go further into Linda and react to 1/4 or even 1/10 the number of her songs as you’ve done to Rush..

Five years earlier and she would have been introducing JD Souther, Glen Frey, and Don Henley.

I know what you mean about that vocal affectation sounding “manufactured.” It’s just what she did, though - and what a lot of people did at the time. She and Lowell George were very tight and that quasi-blues vocal rag was one of his signatures.

You can’t beat that first lineup. Every single one of them is a legend, a few sadly no longer with us. I think Waddy’s on tour with Stevie Nicks right now. As for Linda, nothing more need be said. Royalty. The best. I like both performances played here for different reasons.

Speaking of lineups, I'd like to point out that in the second version, that was Jeff "skunk" Baxter (who played guitar for Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, and a number of other artists) on the congas.

And Shirley Mathews and Clydie King on backing vocals in 2nd version. Linda (and others like Elton John, etc.) hired them because they were so friggin' good.

On the Midnight Special the backup singers were Elvis' backup girls. One of the is Whitney Houston's mother, Cissy. Linda's voice has alot of grit & rasp.

IDK. I think the vocal "affectation" works perfectly here. I recall a lot of singers using the same thing. From Ann Wilson, Nikki Barclay, Stevie Wonder, most big artists. It works also from the "guy done me wrong" theme of the song to express that emotion.
