I am blown away with how fast they are moving when trolling for northern. Were you really moving at 4 - 6 mph dragging a lure?

i got a 3 foot pike one day, so we decided to go big or go home for the rest of the day however we only had rods with little cheap reels and 6-8lb line but i landed the last fish so we didnt think much about it. we decided to troll across the lake with big deep diving crank baits. when we reached the other side we hit a weed bed our lures got stuck. my dad was having trouble with his. sudenly we realized it was moving deep under the boat then it ran 100 yards and got off. wish we had hevier line

Buck Perry gave us all that knowledge about Structure , Depth and Speed and Spoonplugs many decades ago. Buck was the original father of Structure fishing.

What kind of leaders do you use to not screw up the action or running depth? I have a few very nice fish break my heart each year.
