Aaron that Martin has a beautiful tone. I like your approach with the looper. You are absolutely correct about the IR issue. I play both electric and acoustic. I've been using my HX Stomp for both in live performance and have been very happy with the Stomp. I'm also using the parametric EQ. I have a Taylor acoustic. However the piezo pickup system has some really dominant mid range frequencies. Using the parametric works well for adjusting those out. Something I've used in place of a chorus block is the Retro Reel to get just enough chorus without the artifacts of a chorus.

Great video Aaron. My D35 never sounded better through the Helix. I still had enough DSP to run my vocals and their effects through a separate path! You da man

Thanks! It is great for that, I just wish Line 6 would add more vocal effects and harmonies etc.

This was really helpful Aaron. I use a PRS with a Piezo and I am almost were I want it to be. However, I am going to build a patch like this. I will probably use an IR (I have some 3Sigmas). Can't wait to try this. BTW, I just subscribed... :)

Thank you William. Yes use an IR, it will sound amazing!

I would love to see you do this with a Variax in acoustic mode. You mentioned the IR issue with modeling gear. Info on that conflict would be interesting. I have never heard anyone mention it before. I also should mention that I appreciate your calm/quiet approach to speaking in the mic. Too often I hear people on YT beating us up with their voices and extraneous verbiage. Thanks for the video. - liked, sub'd & notified. Looking forward to more.

78tag Thank you so much. I would like to try out a Variax ask. Yes they already have modeling applied so you wouldn’t add an IR to it. It’s like using a microphone to record and then playing that into another microphone. I wish they would allow the Variax to only use its piezo pickup so that other IR’s could be applied. That would be cool. Thank you for your support!

Not to take anything away from what Aaron has done here (thank you, Aaron), Richie Castellano has an excellent video about setting up the Helix family for a JTV-69 (and therefore, any newer model Variax.) I used that for a base tone and on my setup, then tweaked it to my personal liking.

I was having issues with my acoustic guitar tone being to muddy sounding but after watching another video where they said to basically turn off the low cut that alone helped tremendously. I'm more of an electric lead guitarist but now my acoustic tones are 100% better. Sometimes it's good to watch a video more than one time to make sure you don't miss a key point.

Turning off the low cut made the guitar less muddy? It should be the other way around.

@lashram32 That’s correct.

Hi. Would you recommend this pedal with a standard electric guitar tube amp with acoustic guitar or with acoustic amp? Thanks. Thinking live band situations.
@aaronshortmusic3 жыл бұрын
Hi. If you are playing acoustic guitar then you would want to use an acoustic amp for sure. You could also use that when playing electric with the amp models as well.

I used to have a P22. It will work well. You may want to apply a 3Sigma IR as well with a low ‘mix’ level. Give it a try.

Great video Aaron, thanks! Just to confirm for my poor analogue brain; you're plugging a 1/4" from the endpin (using the guitar's onboard piezo), straight into the HX Stomp? No DI boxes or anything else required? And then stereo 1/4" outs to your mixer or DAW? Thanks.
@aaronshortmusic5 жыл бұрын
That is correct but the guitar is active and has a dual source pickup with some IR built in. If the guitar has a passive pickup you may need to raise the level and add an IR on the Stomp. It very much depends on the acoustic guitar pickup that you are using.
