I have the same machine. I bought the complete setup with different sized bars.. Air over hydraulic press for bushings came with the set.. The New.. York machines now come digital and remote. Has been a good investment to expand my welding business on heavy machinery.. Even though I must say I always had very good luck the old-fashioned way.. Hand weld the bore and the good old die grinder with good quality steel cutting bit!👍 Very challenging when you have 2 bore holes hat has to be in line.🤣 Had to get creative with longer extensions for my 4 inch grinder and wore out grinding discs for the more true diameter hole.. Two separated boring holes that would hold hammered in bushings and be aligned with the new PIN! Now with this machine I can't believe I've done this work by hand and they worked out so well! Good work with your boring machine.. I Enjoy watching your videos! This is Carl Massey from Wilsonville Alabama Always working hard with American Pride!! 💯 🇺🇸 *"AMEN"* !!!

Hi Mike, Another really interesting video. I have not seen this type of work before so for me it was great to watch and learn. Hope you can come back to KZbin soon!

I use to use one of those machines years ago. Its a b & d I think been awhile. Except it was hydraulic driven. Good machine kind of a pain to set up. I drilled and tapped to holes opposite one another to 1/4" nc to force the cone against the bore fore line up. Looks great.

It is nice to see this process. There is not a lot of video on how it is set up. Nice to see it isn't some sort of magic. Defiantly something learned by experience though. Much enjoy your videos.

Hi Ryan, Yes, you are right, the only videos I've seen are very short and not too clear, there are a lot of variables that are involved in each setup. Thank you for the compliment, much appreciated ..... Mike

Stand offs are too long. That’s where chatter comes from. Also should be lined up parallel on two planes with some part of the boom like another set of holes that are not worn.

Waiting for the bushings and their precision. It's a great machine that you have there and you use it pretty well. Thanks for showing I learn all the time. Warm regards

Hi Mike Really enjoyed the video and your workmanship and explanation...thanks for showing! Damn, you are sure being hard on your lathe operator that will make the bushings....LOL! Chuck

Hi Chuck, yeah, that lathe hand is always slacking off, I may have to ask Knuckles to have a little "talk" with him to get him set straight. Thanks for weighing in ....... Mike

Hey Michael, Great video!!! There isn't a lot of good line boring videos and yours are pretty damn good. This type of machining is very interesting to me and I enjoy watching and learning. I even subscribed to the line boring book channel but it doesn't show a whole helluva a lot. Maybe next time you could just put your camera on a post and video the whole process, that would be cool. Thanks again and keep up the great work

I like that power head unit. Seen many hydraulic and other types but the unit you have seems very compact and easy to set up. Got more info on it? Colin
@phuzzz110 жыл бұрын
Hi Colin, Yes, it's made by the York Co. maybe in your neck of the woods, it's about ten or more years old now, and has been trouble free so far. They were very helpful when I was looking to get a setup, and any additional accessories I wanted later on. They are in Campbell River BC. They have all kinds of portable machine tools in electric and hydraulic. www.yorkmachine.com/ When I was in the market to purchase a setup, I narrowed it down to York and Climax, and when it came down to the actual purchase, the price and help I got from York just seemed more for me than the Climax, they seemed to be more "high brow" than I was comfortable with, and they weren't very helpful when I was calling with questions and inquires. That being said, I'm to understand the Climax is considered to be the standard in portable machining, however, I would buy from York again without hesitation. Thanks for the compliment .... Mike

Michael Reggie If they're in BC you're closer to me than they...lol Will check it out though, as when I move next month a line bore rig is going to be high on the list. Thanks Colin

***** Oh wow, Not that I'm sure where you are now [I thought western Canada] but where are you moving to, same area?
@CompEdgeX201310 жыл бұрын
Michael Reggie I'm on the eastern end of Canada...VERY east! :-) I'm just moving the operation from a truck based service to a shop about 25 kms away. I seem to spend all my time in Gander anyway so might as well have a shop there. I plan to expand on the machine shop part of my business and try to spend less time on the road.

Whoa, I just looked on a map, am I correct in thinking you are on an island? I didn't even know that was there, the closest thing I can recognize is Labrador. Well I guess it must be very peaceful and beautiful there!
@phooesnax10 жыл бұрын
Very interesting! Like a lathe with no bed You take the lathe to the work rather than the other way around. Never knew it was done this way. Thought you would have had to remove the section and reweld.
@phuzzz110 жыл бұрын
Hi Phooesnax, yes, exactly, I often describe it as an inverse lathe, the tool is turning and the work is stationary. Sometimes the bore is welded and rebored,I do have and occasionally use a bore welder, though I'm not a big fan of bore welding, I just rather have "parent" metal for holding a bearing or bushing under most of these circumstances, I do make reference and explain more about that in some of my previous line boring videos. Thanks for the comment ..... Mike

great job mike exactly how long does it take to do the line bore part of the job ? I would guess it take a bit of time getting everything spot on I only ask as I have never actually done any line bore stuff.
@phuzzz110 жыл бұрын
Hi Allan, Thanks for the compliment, It varies from job to job, and the setup and direction also has a lot to do with it, also the depth and diameter of the bore and is it through or to a shoulder. In a case like this, after the setup is done, it probably was along the lines of 5 hours to get the part bored to size. Thanks again ..... Mike
@Darryl60310 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, I'm curious how long it will last because if it was all bell mouthed to begin with and then you take the stronger metal away, won't it just do the same thing even quicker? That's a nice tool to have around the shop.
@phuzzz110 жыл бұрын
Hi Darryl, very good question, I really have no idea, but I know they said it was in service for a long time with the original parts, so this was what they wanted to do. Also they say they may want to completely break down the whole machine for a complete refurb in the coming months. Thanks, the line boring has kind of become a niche for me. Mike

Great videos Mike!! I'm trying to get into line boring myself and find your videos very detailed. How do you like your York power bore set up? I think that's the set up I'd get myself.
@phuzzz110 жыл бұрын
Hi SteelFab, Thanks for the compliment, much appreciated. I like the York setup very much, I know the Climax is supposed to be the top of the line, but with the price and all else considered, I think I'd still buy the York again, and it has given trouble free service for almost ten years now. Mike

Good day mike how come you dont use lubricant while cutting
@phuzzz19 жыл бұрын
Reinier Basson Hi Reinier, I do use WD-40 for spraying the bar and bearings, so I will occasionally shoot some into the bore as the tool is cutting, that is what is causing the smoke you see in the video, I guess I just didn't actually show me spraying it in the video. Thanks for the comment ....... Mike
@reinier78659 жыл бұрын
wouldn't cutting with out constant flow of lubricant cause the workpiece to get hot and expand and effect the end result
@phuzzz19 жыл бұрын
Reinier Basson By the time I'm doing the finishing passes, they are very light cuts and the work piece has had a long amount of time to cool as there is more time between cutting for repeated measuring.

hi mike I have a large list of cat bushings with sizes in std and metric I don't always buy cat some times I go to trex cat numbers are the same as trex also MSC has a good list of bushings. I can mail to you if you want. Joe. joe's equipment service .
@phuzzz110 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, I have often wondered if there was a source for off size bushings with various wall thicknesses, such as I had to make for this job, in a hardened state, that I could just purchase and bring the bore to size and be done. Thanks for the comment ...... Mike

Why do all that work line boring that when you could of gouged that pipe or sleeve out and replaced it

Because when you weld it back on it warps.

at 30:15, what is that tool called? I could use one myself!!
@phuzzz19 жыл бұрын
kevin O Hi Kevin, that is the tool that is used for adjusting the depth of cut on the cutting tool, it works as though it were a cross slide dial on a lathe carriage, by using the hash mark engraved on the bar, each strike on the turn of the dial represents .002" on total diameter of the bore. Mike

Hi Jon, Thanks for the compliment, much appreciated. If I remember right, the line boring book videos are used as a tool to promote and sell his product, so maybe that's why it doesn't go into too much detail. I try and segment it when I do it because it would get really boring to watch me do all the little steps, they don't call it line BORING for nothing LOL Thanks again ...... Mike
