We live in this area. Some of the ignorant comments here are unnecessary. There are brush clearance requirements, and controlled burns do happen. We had record rainfall this winter followed by tons of growth, and now temps that were 114f. Oh, and wind. It was the perfect storm we always dread.

You know that is not the reason for the fire. The fire is caused by California BS law. There is too much dry fuel lying everywhere. We are not allowed to clean it. I tried it once and was warned. The record rainfall doesn't mean much. We are not out of a drought and the areas that are on fire is not where the waters are. The control burns on near properties, not where large amount of dry fuel are. Last time, they blamed beetles. I always blame the state for their ignorance.

Insurance companies are not even insuring homes in wildland and forest areas, homeowners have to get the CA fairplan which is a BS state insurance that does not cover much at all to the tune of about 1000.00 a month. My sister lives in Arrowhead.

California insurance companies have dropped all homeowners insurance policies a couple years back including State Farm, AAA, etc. the only insurance policy available to cover homes are USAA but you would have to serve in the military. So, no they are not nervous.

Brave firemen. They put their lives at risk to save people, animals, homes. I used to live in Big Bear Lake 2021-2023. I moved back to Orange County. It is too dangerous to live there. I went through 5 day evacuation due to fire. Plus another time huge snow storm for about two weeks, more than one time. People are trapped. Roads shut down, entire communities just close down. You cannot get out, you cannot get food or medicine deliveries..Emergency teams had to trek in by foot because homes were covered in snow, which turned to ice at night, you could not shovel it as too hard. You can have lightning strikes any season up there, dry lightning too. It was not worth the hassles and stress of always watching weather reports and being on high alert. You cannot leave to go down the mountain during ice snowy conditions. Plus everything is more expensive, it is a tourist spot. Everything must be trucked up the mountains. Local residents do not get lower prices. Local store owner tried to charge me $150.00 once to deliver 5 necessary food items such as bread, milk, cheese and he was maybe a mile down road. I would never recommend living up in a mountain community. Especially since due to man's negligence and global warming, California is having hotter temps every year, which means dryer conditions and more fires. These fires now up in San Bernardino mountains don't just happen once every few years, they are happening every year and more of them. So I left, not worth the danger and worry.

My brother in law lost a beautiful Craftsman home in Highland (vacant at the time) due to a homeless woman starting a fire in an out building to keep warm. One of the columns was saved and my birdhouse sits on it. 64% of fires stated in LA county are by homeless folks. We got lots and lots and lots of those people.

In 2004, 06 we had 400,000 acres of prime ponderosa pine burned. Many homes. Since then the forest service has aggressively cleared the woodlands, you can see it, going to McNary. Show low. And flagstaff, my hat off to the forest rangers, and our state, thanks.
