Linger - The Cranberries AND Royel Otis (Live @ SiriusXM Cover) REACTION

I don't like The Cranberries. I have no idea who Royal Otis is. And both of those things are about to change.
I'm admittedly rather picky when it comes to vocal style. And because of that, there is a specific 90s sound that I've just never been a fan of. I've always grouped The Cranberries into that club but, truthfully, I never really gave them a fair, devoted, listen. So that's what today is about; pushing my boundaries, trying new things, and giving The Cranberries the chance they deserve--and also, discovering new talent! Both The Cranberries AND Royal Otis really took me by surprise with Linger and I'm prepared to admit that I may have, in fact, been wrong. I look forward to seeing where this takes me!

Tbf I’m not sure I saw myself doing a Cranberries video either lol! But I’m glad I did! It’s just a lovely song no matter how you slice it. My favorite part about doing these reaction videos is that through the editing process I get to hear the music a million more times and it’s a true test as to whether I really like it or not. It’s always nice when, rather than getting old and annoying, a song just makes me like it more.

I can’t lie, I heard both of them SO many times while editing this video but the Royel Otis cover was the one I started catching myself singing to. I’d hit play and instead of pausing to make an edit I’d just let it play a while longer so I could listen to it lol! It really is surprisingly phenomenal for how simple it is. I genuinely love it.

The KZbin Algorithm dropped Royel Otis’ cover on me yesterday. I was letting auto-play run live performances in the background while I used my phone. When this one came on I had to put my phone down. His voice is so angelic. Watch their cover of Murder on the Dance Floor! Cheers

Cranberries' version came out while I was in college and in love for the first time. And it ended just the same way as the song, lol. It was definitely a theme song for a while.

The first three Cranberries' albums are great. My favourite is Everybody else is doing it, so why can't we, 1993, their debut album. For a debut album, it is very solid, with a very well defined 90s alt/indie rock sound. No Need to Argue, 1994, their second album, is a masterpiece of melancholic rock. To the faithful departed, 1996, is harsher and rugged.

You should really check out a bit of Royel Otis! They're a young Sydney, Aus band. I've seen them at a few festivals now and shit man, his voice just does something to you.
