ORIGINAL INFO: Behold this classic tale of the starship Enterprise… and how her crew is incredibly incompetent.
RUMINATIONS: I came up with the idea for this episode two weeks before I did it and, in fact, filmed all the additional elements while I was also working on the second Rise of Arsenal episode. There was always that idea of the “mirror universe episode” thing in the back of my mind for the show, but no good reason to do it. Two things finally gave me the impetus to do it - one, finding the mirror universe gold vest on Ebay and two - rereading Comics101.com’s look at the first Gold Key Star Trek comic. Gold Key’s first issue is so far removed from Star Trek aside from character names and look that it might as well be an alternate universe version of the comic, so I figured that would make for a good way of doing the mirror universe plot.
The idea of the AI to handle Comicron One came not from 2001: A Space Odyssey, but rather the webcomic Schlock Mercenary, wherein every spaceship has an AI with their own personality and characterization, including a holographic avatar. I loved the idea for the show and thought it would add some more needed cast members who were not played by me. Since she lives an hour and a half away from me, doing voiceover was also ideal. To add onto our list of geeky influences, Nimue’s speech patterns and habit of saying what sort of statement she’s making before she speaks (Information, Speculation, Question, etc.) comes from the British sci-fi series Blake’s 7 and the artificial intelligence from that show named Zen. Obviously, with an onboard computer there would always be the possibility of her going rogue and trying to kill everyone, even putting her in the HAL 9000 appearance, but I didn’t have any definite plans there, so I decided to lampoon it in her first appearance. It might go on longer than it should, but I thought it was funny in the end.
The one change to the footage shown in the mirror theme song is that the Lord Vyce Mirrorkara encountered was pretty much blown up, as opposed to the main universe, wherein he was simply knocked out. I leave it for others to speculate how this Vyce operated, whether he was fighting the Entity or just some conqueror or someone else entirely. The more important thing is that things ended up differently, especially as Mirrorkara took over his universe’s Comicron One and planned to use it to take over the world, while the rest of his supporting cast were pretty much indifferent to the whole thing.
Mirror Pollo is, of course, played by Tom Servo. I figured it was a good opportunity to finally use the puppet properly in the show at least once until what would happen later on. The normal Pollo body was going to be put in the glass case, but it didn’t fit. As such, I decided to instead use a fan-made Pollo body that was actually made of metal. Mirror Insano is of course played by me with a blonde goatee (and those goatees are a pain in the ass to work with and feel really weird on the skin), since I knew Spoony would either be unavailable, lack the white goggles Mirror Insano has, or just that green-screening him in wouldn’t look good.
There are tiny bits of foreshadowing in the background and foreground - primarily bits of technology that would matter later, like the mobile emitter, a half-completed phaser rifle, and the aforementioned metal Pollo body, since by then I had figured out what I’d be doing after the Entity arc completed. Speaking of, this episode plants the idea that Pollo needs a new body… which he desperately did, since the thing was several years old and the paint was chipping in places.
This episode annoyed some people… not because of the Mirror Universe idea, but rather because I didn’t go far enough with Mirrorkara reviewing differently. Ironically, I deliberately chose NOT to do that since I feared viewers would hate an episode being so different, so aside from a line of dialogue here or there, I still wrote the review up as if it was a regular episode. If I ever do another mirror universe episode, I’ll make sure to correct that.
Only thing left to say there is once again Iron Liz did a great job in it, especially with her reaction to the Agonizer. The sign of her mirror duplicate being evil was that one’s love of 4th edition Dungeons and Dragons, which I knew Liz HATED with a passion and could rant about it for hours.

Here is my excuse for why Mirror Linkara has a spaceship: Mirror Vyce came to his universe to spread peace, since Good is evil and etcetera, Mirror Linkara saw his ship and wanted it, he attacked Mirror Vyce, they battled for I don't know how long, Vyce lost, died, and Mirror Linkara took the spoils of war.

To Linkara: Regarding the "rocket propulsion would take decades to leave the Solar System". Not exactly. The reason it takes so long for ships to travel in space for us is that we don't use much propulsion and only use a relatively short burst of propulsion and use Newton to keep the ship going. The proposed ion drive will get to Mars not because it's FASTER, but because it keeps accelerating non-stop, therefore going faster and faster.

I know that it would have been a difficult and needless illusion to maintain for the review, but it would have been funny if the Star Trek show (and comics) in Mirrorkara's universe were actually based on the characters from Star Trek's own mirror universe, instead of the regular characters. This is one of Linkara's favorite episodes as well as mine. Everything of the most part went off without a hitch, plus being a Star Trek fan, I liked the TOS parallels. From how we see Comicron One at the beginning and end, (As well as in the ion storm transition effect) to even using the TOS theme at the end. Glad to see after all this time (at the time of this comment) it hasn't been copyrighted. Wouldn't mind seeing a AT4W mirror universe review in the future.

Full disclosure, I first saw Wrath Of Khan when I was 7. I cried when Spock died. Hell, I get teary eyed every time I rewatch it. The music, the acting, the transition from Spock's death to Kirk's eulogy, the crane shot... it all just fits together so perfectly to create an emotional climax. Anyway, great review. I choose to believe that Linkara's idea to perform the transfer while an Ion Storm is brewing is due to things that would lead into the arc after this (or the one after the next, I can't recall exactly, and I'm refusing to mention for spoilery reasons, just in case anyone is reading this and hasn't somehow seen all the episodes yet). The reason being is that, as a massive Star Trek nerd, he should know *full well* what happens when a ship attempts *anything* during an ion storm. Really, this was kind of thing was inevitable just for the hubris. Well, that or it's 90's Kid's fault for one particular reason or another. We may never know.

So if I think about the "His Heart is Steel" story arc: Mirror Mechakara (Who acts in alot of ways like the Prime Linkara) was a robot from an alternate universe who went to Mirror Earth to find a magic gun to help his race of kind and benevolent machines against the vile human resistance (Who are terrorists in this Mirror Universe, of course). Things did not go well between the two Kara's and a fight broke out (I'll presume Mirrorkara used a Psycho Ranger type outfit). Mirror Pollo wanted to help the Mirror Mechakara (Since Mirrorkara was an evil douche) but, I presume, Mirrorkara installed some overrides into Mirror Pollo and used those to force Mirror Pollo to access Mirror Mechakara's CPU and give Mirrorkara the chance to destroy him. Mirror Mechakara survives, of course, and is rescued and repaired by Mirror Dr Insano (Who is quite sane).

Also glad if we see a mirror Linkara review it will be more different. I am an apologist, of course I am going to get technical and pedantic. Time Barrier does not necessary mean time travel. Earlier in the Episode Pike had said "Time warp factor" Which I think is the full version of what we usually hear when they say Warp Factor, they just don't say the Time part to save time. But I think the Time Barrier is referring to a speed limit ships had back when the Columbia launched where they could only go so fast because of time dilation. This backed up because he prefaced the breaking of the time barrier with the phrase "You will not believe how quickly we can get back" No error is to small, I explain all on my channel.

How fast only means speed, time travel does not get you places quicker. Warp Factor is shorter then saying Time Warp Factor, so I have no idea what you are saying about that. I've never heard the phrase Time Warp, in reference to warp drive, source please. Space Warp could just be another term for the drive system. One thing you need to learn about Apologetics is, all that matter is how you can make things appear constant. I have not seen anything you said that really makes a problem with my interpretation.

If I understand correctly, good and bad tend to be reversed in the mirror universe and evil tends to win. Perhaps in the mirror universe, the only morally decent people working at Channel Awesome were the Walker brothers, Mike Michaud, Brad Jones and Justin Carmichael. And perhaps Mirror Michaud and Mirror Doug Walker tried to fire most of the reviewers for being evil, but then Mirror Linkara vaporized them with a ray gun and declared himself the new ruler of Channel Awesome ....only to then be poisoned by the women who then took over the site and is now known as Empress Iron Liz.

The opening credits showed that the comics are the same, but the reaction is different. Specifically it showed the “goddamn Batman” panel and called it “genius”. The books are the same, the reception changed.

"Editions" of the game are not mere rules clean-up or flavor expansions/amendments; they are entire rules overhauls, and often tonal ones too. While they typically have rules foundations in common and design tropes, i.e. d%, they can often wind up radically different for whole hosts of reasons. 4th Edition was a highly controversial one for many reasons, and even if it weren't, the characters were aghast as the figure in question was known to be vehemently distasteful of 4th.
