Yeah, Mike stated that they had finished the song, but they ended up with 14 songs but had set their minds to only having 13 songs on the album. They also felt that the song was too similar to both structure wise and melodically to Numb, so not only having it not only on the same album but also would've been right next to each other on the album so they axed it. It ended up getting lost and forgotten on a hardrive in a drawer somewhere until they found it looking for material to release with the 20th anniversary album

4:57 the layering of Chester’s vocals had me literally sobbing the first time I listened. I’m not a very emotional person, I rarely show too much emotion but when it comes to Linkin Park, they’re such an integral part of my life, Chester’s voice hits home every time and having an unreleased song 6 years after his passing is incredible. Most of the other artists I listen to are country but Linkin Park will always be my favorite band and artists. Their blend of different elements in unmatched, and how they do it in a rock band formation is musical perfection.

Even from beyond, Chester helped me to keep pushing forward. 🧡

So glad I got to see these guys live at least once, co-headlining with Incubus. They closed the gig at Jones Beach Amphitheatre. (look it up) It's outdoors and it was raining during a hot summer night, and lightning was hitting the Atlantic Ocean in the background. They just kept playing and doing pyrotechnics during the show. We were all wet, and nobody cared. It' was magical. Chester sounds EXACTLY the same live as he does in the studio, it's wild. RIP legend. I wish I could have whispered something in your ear to make you not make that decision to end you own life, but I suppose that's wishful thinking. You helped more people than you'll ever know.

Speaking as a chronic depression sufferer who is currently doing okay for once, I think Linkin Parks music has always hit home for me because I've always related to that suffering. I don't know exactly what Chester went through, but I know from their work that we've dealt with a lot of the same feelings. I never know when I'm going to spiral and be struggling not to jump off a cliff. Living life fantasizing about putting a gun to my head is my normal. But right now I'm thankfully allowing myself to believe I can change. I think that shadow will always haunt me, but my hope is to put as much distance between us as I can. Rest in peace to Chester. I hope he's no longer battling those demons.

Nice reaction. It's funny you say it's very similar to Numb, because that's the reason it wasn't included on the album according to Mike Shinoda in multiple interviews. It's awesome that the band released it (and a few other songs as well) so that we can have a last bit of that amazing old school Linkin Park sound that so many of us love. More Linkin Park reactions (anything by them, it's all solid) would be welcome, as well as Mike Shinoda's new single "Already Over" (which sounds like it could easily have been a Linkin Park release).

When I heard this. I thought. Awesome, a new LP song with Chester.. So cool. But when the moment came and he started to sing, it just hit so differently than I expected. I can listen to there old music just fine. But for some reason a new song with him just hit so differently than I thought. His voice just made me shiver right away, I did not expect it to hit in that way.. And the fact it was so unexpected make it so much more. And the moment he sings. " I am tired " there is a break in his voice, its like its pulled out. its just. Amazing song. and I can't put words on it, but what ever I am feeling, I really did not think I would feel listening to this song when I heard it the first time. An other things after hearing it many times now. When the " I tried to keep this pain inside, but I will never be alright " Looking back there are many of the things he sung where people say, well he was telling us. But those lines are not like that, it was more a. He feared this, and it turned out to be true. Suffering from chronical mental illness is something you fight your entire life, and the best you can do is fight so it does not effect others. But you know inside you will never get to be alright. All the things others live for, is something you can never have, and there is not anything you can do about it. When you live it, that thought is the most heavy thing you carry. No matter what, your life will always be that, I will never be alright. Nothing can change it, no amount of love, wealth, power. I can have everything I ever desired, and I will still not be alright. Linkin Park always meant a lot to me, I was a teenager when they made it big. And they made so many amazing songs. And the influence they had on music is almost unrivaled, so many modern bands was and is influences by LP.. I do have an emotional favorite song though. I have "some" tattoos, and I have designed them myself, with the old Norse way of being used to tell my own story with them. So I do not have things from songs, or poems, or pictures whatever. Other than one thing. LP have a song called " This is my December " Not one of there most known, but I listened to it a lot. And I have in my tattoo the " This is my December " as a ode to LP. the only connection I have to any lyrics or band, so it means something. It also made sense because I am born in December, so it still tells that story. plus other connections to December. But for that reason I would say that is the most important LP song for me, can't say if its my favorite.

THIS SONG is about the betrayal he underwent by that older friend who abused and wrecked him. The abandonedment by his mother and his father not being there for him. My word the anguish in his voice is almost too much. HOW COULD THE WORLD HAVE FAILED THIS PERSON SO HORRIBLY. I would rather had there never been the toxic childhood of this man and no LP with Chester still here as just a normal person than what WAS and him gone. For all his brilliance & talent he was a scared little boy just looking for a place to belong and be happy. Sadly He never found it in this broken world. Hope hes at peace now with God who takes away all pain.

Now of course after chesters passing its a double edged sword, theres the sadness of both the meaning of each song and that chesters gone; along with to me what feels like comfort in hearing his voice again as if your catching up with an old friend or family member. To tell you the truth i was underwhelmed on my first listen cuz we all knew what to expect, but the meaning and feeling greatens every time for me. That's why you keep comparing them to one another because they are very similar sounding and were created in the same vein of musical thinking and lyrical writing at that point in the band's career. That's why "Lost" sounds like it could've been off that album.
