Yeah, coincidence. Mike and others wrote it about an old friend of the band at the Warner label, who worked with them and helped them a lot earlier in Linkin Park's career. She had recently passed from cancer. Chester geard the song and thought it was the most beautiful and sad song he'd ever heard. He even had trouble singing it in the studio. Highly recommend you to react to the Jimmy Kimmel live version of this song (if you haven't done it already). They tributed it to Chris Cornell who just passed the day before this performance. SO much emotion!

That "I do" haunting scream in the background with those quick montage clips gets me every time. And on Jimmy Kimmel when he sang it in tribute to Chris Cornell and fully screamed it, it's just powerful.

That "scream" you mentioned actually sounds like: this is my last scream and its blurry because i have no strenght anymore and have no more effect... that was the only "scream" in the entire album and he did it only once live on Chris Cornell tribute, you should check it

Oh, the cruel irony of this song. I think the lyrics are mostly Mike, and was written about someone at the label who passed away from cancer. They were supposed to come out and play their single Heavy at the Jimmy Kimmel show the day after Chris Cornell passed away, but instead came out and played One More Light in honour of him. It's a painful performance. Then two months later, on Chris' birthday, Chester passed, and the song for fans became about him. The band did talk about how they wrote this song to be a comfort to those who have lost someone dear, but then found themselves in that position.

While the band used it, along with the footage of the last time he performed it in London I believe- it was actually written by a close friend who they worked with who was fighting terminal cancer. She did pass away and that’s when they did all the vocals and tracked the music. I don’t think they realized how strong of a sentiment it would become to not only to themselves, but to their friend’s loved ones, and of course for Chris. Hearing that scream that is far back in the mix on the album live the day after they were told of Chris’ death just guts you

In an interview Mike said Chester took the death of his good friend Chris Cornell very hard besides we know Chester was very vocal about his depression his whole life after the abuse he endured for years from age 7 to 14 and he never told and he had said he just couldn't get past it....if you take that into account and listen to the lyrics of so many songs going way back had dark meaning. Crawling...Waiting For the End, Numb, Given Up, Lost, Heavy, so many more, Mike said years ago some of the songs were geared towards Chesters struggles and I believe this is why Chester had so much emotion because it was real pain and those screams were gut wrenching....he was definitely trying to live his life and we all wish he was still here. Rest in peace Chester we love you and miss you and it has been 6 years and it feels like yesterday.

This song is coincidence, but as we know clearly Chester was in a bad way leading up to his passing. So I think this song was both for their lost friend and also for Chris Cornell, but also maybe for himself. We can't know that's what it was for sure, but the songs he wrote in this album, Nobody Can Save Me, Heavy(in part), and Sharp Edges for sure make me think his mind was...going there. Even though he had lyrics of hope in there, he was struggling. His live performance of this song when Chris Cornell died on Jimmy Kimmel Live is heart wrenching. A beautiful song, one I couldn't hear for a long time after he passed.
@FaiRoxYourWorld12 жыл бұрын
Nobody Can Save Me was actually written by Mike in the perspective of Chester, like trying to gently tell him that he (Chester) is the only one who can save himself. But yeah, still makes it obvious he wasn't in a great mental place at the time.
@Nem017 ай бұрын
Chester was always very open about his state of mind and his dark thoughts. At the end when he made the decision to do it he was at peace with himself. That's why he was laughing with his family in his last video. It is a strange thing but when you have come to terms with the fact that you're going to end yourself you fall in a sense of peace and balance with yourself because you know you won't suffer any longer.
