Not gonna lie the Tax write off rant had me in tears. It was so raw. Mans really been seeing that comment for years and had to get it off his chest. Also the “NOW I NEED ANOTHER SLATE” sent me 😂
@WillyJL8 ай бұрын
to be fair, i think he explained and missed the point still. the comments meant that if you buy it as a business expense and then keep it for yourself, you didnt have to buy it with the income money that was taxed... so rather than getting some income, paying tax on it, and then buying the asset, you buy the asset before taxes on the income, then keep the asset. that would logically mean, by the way linus explained it, that the asset was bought without paying tax on it. note that i have no clue if that is actually how it works, but the way he explained kinda reinforces the argument made in the comment, without further context
@ionstorm668 ай бұрын
It's only a write off of the business keeps the item. Your personal house that your wife and kids live in isn't a write off, same for a pool, etc. Now for something like PC hardware, TV, or car the is purchased and owned by the business, used for business purposes, aka video, then transfered to a person after, it could be a write off.
@codelltaylor8 ай бұрын
@@WillyJL So, Linus brought this up in his rant, but because LMG is an incorporated entity (separate from Linus the person) LMG can't legally buy something, write off the expense, then have Linus take it home and do whatever he wants with it as his personal item forever. It's LMG's property, and Linus is too visible and the scheme too obvious for him to be getting away with it. Does LMG likely pay Linus the person some kind of fee for filming at his house, etc? Probably, but that wouldn't be unexpected or weird considering LMG gets a lot of content out of his house.
@Sotanaht018 ай бұрын
@@ionstorm66 Imagine this scenario. You work at a media company. Your boss comes to you one afternoon and says "Hey I know you have a nice pool, we'd like to install a high tech heating system in it because we think it would make a good video". In this scenario it makes sense that you aren't paying for the heating system, this was all your bosses idea and they are getting content out of it. It also makes sense that your boss isn't paying income taxes on it, they only bought it for legitimate business reasons because they wanted to make some content. And obviously nobody is going to rip the thing out when the shoot is done, that would just be stupid and a waste of money. Oh, and you are your own boss.

He just had to say "nothing that stays in my home was passed as a business expense" (aka: tvs, pool heating, rack, home theaters, inlaws lawnmower, routers, pcs, etc etc.) and every comment would be invalid, but he didnt say that, when 90% of the comments he showed where talking about things in his home that show up in videos as main themes 2/3 times and he might be putring them as business expenses, we dont know because he didnt say he didnt. And if your small business was "making shoes" you couldnt pass the "biggets home tv ever created" that you keept in you house as a business expense, but a tech content creator that made 2/3 videos of it...never said he didnt state it as such, just saying. And he might not get rich, but richer that a dude that wants that tv and cant pass it as an expense? Sure thing.
