Work with some smaller/'family' businesses and you'll realize this is actually pretty damn common. More common than not to be honest, usually in smaller businesses it's quite common for a friend/family to handle the administrative stuff, as there's not a ton of people willing to do all that work for the smaller pay a new/small business can afford. At least it usually starts that way, but after time passes it becomes more daunting and difficult to switch out that person, due to their intimate knowledge of the company/process.

I had a red dragon keyboard and a $20 mouse from Canada computers that worked great for years. Ive upgraded now but I had no issues with either of them and they had no impact on my gaming. Red dragon really is a solid budget option as my steelseries keyboard was almost $200Cad and my custom one was probably around $250. Even my mouse is almost $100.

I have a Devrajas keyboard from them that I _loved_, especially after swapping the keys with Akko "Sponge" tactile switches. Unfortunately it started shorting out, so I switched to a Keychron, and will be trying to fix the Devrajas as a project. The Perdition MMO mouse, on the other hand, has been phenomenal. Both the G600 and Naga have had issues with cat hair messing with the optical sensor, but the Perdition has been completely bug free. None of these mice lasted more than 3 years, so if it makes it that long, it's a clear winner IMO, even if the software is jank as hell.

I've been daily driving a red dragon red switch mechanical keyboard in my home office for the last 3 years. The thing has had spills on it, been dropped and taken a ton of gaming abuse. It's deck is even bending in the middle and bowing a bit from all the pressure on it over the years. All this aside, it still works perfectly and has given me zero reason to replace it after all this time. I paid $35 CAD for it 3 years ago.

I've actually used red dragons mouse's before. Not all of the RGB on the mouse worked properly, and overtime, the internal battery doesn't last super long. The core functions of the mouse plugged in work well enough and my particular model is more comfortable for than the logictec g502 (different designs which is the primary factor). The 502 feels much nicer in both build and functionality though, but red dragon worked for me for cheap items to start with.

don't use a dark mat for testing mice heh [former technical school instructor] some mouse detectors have issues with dark, light absorbing surfaces, when not a visible laser emitter (little red light under the mouse that you should not look at hehe) esp. if you are using a known-decent mouse and it's losing sync or not tracking well... put it on a coloured mat with a pattern that the mouse can detect changes in easily (the little changes are how it detects movement) [note that of course it could be other things like the USB cable being sensitive or borky, connection loose, etc etc] nice finds though

I have an old Logitech g100s that still loses tracking at low sensitivity/low dpi settings but I LOVE the shape and the plastic used in making it. What I've learned is it comes down to changing/raising your sensitivity in game and using the "Native DPI" until the mouse is tracking at least a bit more then a 180 Degree turn. OR while using the mouse at its "Native DPI" using Raw Accel and finding a niche Acceleration curve to meet your needs even if it means deep diving into acceleration and deceleration this can easily save your retro tech that you can't bare to let go.

My theory, is that when companies claim it's (x) times better than the competition, this is the competition they are talking about, and they exist simply to prove the legitimacy of the claim, and they are actually overpriced knowing nobody will buy it, and for the grandparents that do buy them, they can make 3000 more, with one store buy. (And the store buys them at 20-50% of the listed price, so they are incentivized to have them, not losing money on even the heavy discounted prices on sales, and sales are just for storage space clearance.

That first mouse is the EXACT same shell as my old "arachnid" mouse. From what i recall arachnids products were actually pretty acceptable for their price, granted all of their stuff was mass produced chinese gear that brands got to slap a label on and sell as their own. The mouse worked well for 6-7 years, it was about on par with other budget mice in terms of tracking etc, click inputs were no problem up intil it started to go all funkybunky after these 6-7 years. I really liked the shape of it tho! Fit my hand very well and kept my fingers from spilling over and rubbing across my mousepad (big deal for someone with sensory issues) BTW that "fire button" is a macro that spams left-click :D They also sold keyboards aswell, these were probably their best product with the one i had being a METAL chassis TKL with actual cherry red switches for like 60 euro! Both of these came with a DVD for the software, the keyboard let you make fully customizable profiles for both the RGB and inputs, the mouse would also let you change from a few premade RGB profiles and change up the inputs. Now a thing that this questionably real brand "Arachnid" was their headsets, they had about 3 different models at different prices from around 40-100 euro. I only got to try their cheap and midrange sets and both SUCKED, the cheap set were all plastic body and i kid you not they SNAPPED IN HALF after they fell like one foot, this happened TWICE btw. The "midrange" set was a bit better with more metal and tolerable sound quality, but they still snapped in half in the plastic after a one foot drop.. The brand did go under a few years back, probably for good reason as they only really had one good product with me mouse being acceptableish.

24.99 at princess auto currently. The mouse and keyboard in this kit sells at dollar store for 5$ each. We have them both for the 1 year old to play with. I do play with a princess auto mouse and I liked it so much bought one for my son's PC. It has like 4 adjustments for dpi. I often switch through them depending on the game.

Linus' point about second hand stuff is real. I've been using a 2016 Razer Black Widow Ultimate keyboard for over a year that I got from Goodwill for $9.99 for over a year now. Never thought I'd daily drive a Razer, but I'm impressed! Especially for the price. This was before I was able to upgrade to the $3k machine I have now. Because of that, I've intentionally left the sticker on it. Gotta remember where I came from.

@linustechtips, what I’ve found is that a cheap laser mouse works better against a white pad. Test it out that way. At the end of the day, though, a mouse should work with whatever surface you are on.

I used my Razer DeathAdder 2013 until late last year (it had started double clicking on both the left and center buttons and got tired of taking it apart to fix that with a cleaning.) But it was perfect ergonomically for me and performance is pretty great on top of lasting over 10 years. I repleaced it with the white Razer DeathAdder Essential, and couldn't be happier. It's nearly identical (sans the actual rubberized side grip and the braided cable) and was SUPER cheap.
@dartmaster5877

It's Razor's software that causes the double click issue. I had one of their mice for about six months and could never get it to stop double clicking everything, it was a nightmare. I switched back to logitech and have not had any issues since. That was like 9 years ago, the fact that Razor still has not fixed the issue is exactly why I haven't owned anything from them since, software is trash.

@@dartmaster5877 bro it is not software. It is china made Omron switches in both old Razer and most Logitech mouse. I had same era DeathAdder as the guy above, I put in Japan made Omron switches and it lasted me years, stopped using it, when it started look awful, because it was so worn down. Since that I had Steelseries and like 3 Logitech mouse and both G102/G203 had double click issues. Got a G305 now and I just accepted that I will need to replace the switches. BTW. I have yet to use peripheral that software for isn't completely shit. One thing good about logitech software is that You can change the settings, send the config to the mouse and remove the software, never use it again.

The funny thing about the brand name is that dart frogs are brightly colored and very toxic, so predators avoid eating them. Some other jungle, non-toxic frog species copy the dart frog's coloring to piggyback off of their protection. So dart frog mimicking Razer's packaging is quite ironic

I have that wireless mouse at 13:10, except with a red scroll wheel. That scroll wheel is crazy, it reads it so badly that it sometimes does nothing but when it does something it goes in the wrong direction about 40% of the time. It is a spare for when I leave my Bluetooth mouse at work, but I literally have to use the scroll bars at the side of pages or documents the wheel is so bad, basically unusable. However it is perfectly OK for basic gaming (I don't play multiplayer, so less pressure) if you select your weapons with the number keys.

i remember a couple years back i had a razer deathadder chroma and they had a refund policy of two years, but every time i sent it back they refreshed the two year warranty on the one they sent back to me. they were most likely refurbished from what they were sent back from other people, but regardless they couldnt seem to send me a mouse that lasted longer than two years (ngl the mouse itself was normally fine, but the wires would always get broken from the simplest of bends) but i figured if i could get a free mouse every year, then id never have to buy another mouse again lmao. eventually after the fourth send back they finally sent me one that lasted longer than two years. it didnt make it to three, but i still got a pretty good deal out of how much customer service i was offered on refunds. this was years ago, not sure what the refund policy is now, but i bought a razer mamba for a replacement since it was a bit cheaper, but this thing has lasted for like 4 years now i havent even thought about getting a new mouse in a very long time since i really dont need one. moral of the story is refund policies are important lol
