Lion Fish Hunting at Night

The fins on that first one are loooong! I like how the other thicker ones come looming out of the darkness ambushing fish and then eating them. Their fins are impressive! Like huge feathers or something.

I filmed even closer :) although i had gloves on and they toughed my gloves while there were coming to get a meal which they could see by me dive torch. it is realy cool to see them hunt at night, one dive we just watched them hunt for 90 minutes, then we were running out of air and had to turn back. looking back they were still following our lights :)

No. There are. I read up on lionfish care for home aquariums, and there was a section conatining information on tank mates for them. Certain triggerfish are not recommended as tank mates with lionfish because they have been known to snap off the venomous spines and harass the fish before attacking them or eating them. Triggerfish are far more agressive than lionfish are. I always thought these fish were invincible, but they aren't. Lionfish have also been known to eat or attack each other.

What sort of creatures prey upon lionfish?

@dahermitcrab In curacao you can see them at less than 20 meters, have seen several this way. And they are killing them there but it's because they are not from that habitat and have no natural enemies in that area and they reproduce rapidly.

I think these fish are beautiful and I agree with spearo92. It would be ashame for these fish to be on the endangered species list, so be careful when it comes to introducing them to a new enviorment.

yes that is correct divers are trying to spread the word to go lionfish hunting in the carribean because they are an invasive spiecies and kill(not to mention eating) over 1000 fish in thier lifetime, and they have no natural predators and are rapidly increasing. divers are helping by going lionfish hunting (spearing them). and somtimes they will encourage the yop predators to eat them, like eels, groupers, and reef sharks. lionfish also taste quite good if you cook them right so they are encou
