I loved the Commodores. They were one of the biggest groups around when I was in high school, from Machine Gun to Brick House. Later on I said about Lionel Richie...If he never does another album, he will always be able to make millions writhing songs.

Thank you so much for this Bio. I have always loved Lionel Richie. The intro and his historical perspective regarding T University was very interesting. I am 65 and grew up listening to all of Mr. Richie’s music. For my generation his words of reflection bring such sadness to my soul, but at the same time lighten my heart because he was an enormous success, beloved by many!

He mentions that he didn't wanted to leave the Commodores but the press hounded him saying why is a guy like him with the Commodores and it was a stab in the heart not just for Richie but for the band members they even asked him if he was gonna do a solo record not a solo career, they were going to take a break but when Hello and All Night Long hit...
@MzJanuary
@MzJanuary 2 жыл бұрын
Motown was pushing him to go solo for a while, so it wasn't necessarily the guys in the group asking him if he wanted to make a solo song. The media played a huge role in dividing them. Once Motown decided to make the Commodores a pop group instead of a funk act, Lionel got all of the attention, which tore the group apart. Never the same after that.

I am from Alabama, about 35 minutes from Tuskegee. The rumor I heard was that the song Endless Love killed the Commodores. During the production of that song Diana told him how the label got behind her and her career skyrocketed after leaving Supremes, not to mention how much more financially lucrative it is as a solo artist. Check out my other Lionel Richie video These Songs and let me know what you think. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqi0qHioj6yEsMk

The Commodores are now being SNUBBED by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2022…while RICHIE is being nominated as a SOLO ARTIST. No offense, but I hope he DOESN’T get in….until THE COMMODORES as a GROUP are inducted. THEN put him in as a SOLO artist LATER.

@@MrMichael19631963 ...All you guys make perfect sense! I've always felt that way, since they broke up. As for the rock hall of shame, maybe their holding a grudge? The Commodores, burst onto the scene with funky anti Hollywood lyrics. In some songs, they were always laying down positive messages though. Before Lionel was made lead singer permanently. Some of those in the position to make those decisions. Probably have very thin skin....Just Saying?
