Probably the best review video for the BatSafe that I have seen. I love mine and am glad I have it.

Even in open air outdoors, I would still wear a respirator. One like the 3M Full Face 6800 or at least the cheaper half mask, especially when doing controlled test like these to teach safety. Breathing any bit of those chemicals and metals will not get flushed out of your body anytime soon. It's scary to have ailments that doctors cannot diagnose or ever trace back to the one time your breathed in a burning LIPO.

What if you put the battery inside a fireproof lipo bag, and then put that bag inside this container?

I'm interested in one of these, but how long did the smell linger in the room? Does the smell damage carpet and such? I live in apartment so I can't take any chances with my lipos.

Is the white smoke poisoning the living room when it comes to a reaction inside the House? What if I use glass bubbles and lipo bags too? I think the smoke will always be poison for us. So i have to think on a suction system. Any ideas? I think on a welding suction system it cost alot and don‘t work automatically when it comes to smoke. I fear that they will keep fire when i sleep at the night in my storage box. By the loading process I am always there and watch it.

The BAT-SAFE has a filter in the lid. I tried contacting local officials to see if I could get the smoke tested to find out how bad it was, but nobody nearby had the right equipment to do that.
@Sffker2 жыл бұрын
A smoke detector, wired into your stove hood (if you have one) which turns on the exhaust fan when smoke is detected. Wouldn’t be too difficult with the right know-how and fabrication skills.

I'm curious, you state that the 15 race batteries where nowhere near the two 6s 5000mah capacity. If I'm correct in my math here (assuming all packs were fully charged at 4.2volts and that they were standard 1300mah 4s packs) wouldn't it work out to 327wh? 2 6s 5000mah at 4.2 would be 252wh, and the capacity rating of the batsafe is 222wh. Am I doing fuzzy math here? It would mean the small batsafe is rated to store no more than 9 standard race batteries (at full charge).
@hazard-creative6 жыл бұрын
There are two different points here. First, I believe that the Wh rating of the box is a general rule, calculated from nominal voltage only and the actual charge of the battery isn't supposed to be taken into account. In that case, the box would not actually be rated for two charged 6S 5000s, as you said. I don't think the manufacturer intends the actual charge amount to be part of the rating, but you'd have to ask them about it. On your second point, yes, about 10 or 11 4S 1300mAh batteries (at 3.7v) would be the rated capacity. Many of the 15 we loaded it with were 2S and 3S, so we ended up below the total rating. Maybe 'nowhere near' on capacity is not accurate, but the heat generated from a small 3/4S pack is much less than what you would get from a large 6S pack.

Not trying to critique, really was just trying to understand for safety reasons. I only keep 7-8 4s per box, but I wanted to understand your test fully. I appreciate it a ton, your real world testing led me to buy 2 of em, and I plan on buying the XL soon. I feel a lot better when I leave the house knowing my lipos are in a bat safe.
@hazard-creative6 жыл бұрын
No worries! I'm hoping to test the XL as well, but it only makes sense in addition to this test if I can get it up to full capacity. Right now I've only got a lead on two 6S 5000s. If I can get a sponsor for the other four, I'll make that test happen.

Can this box should be reutilize after a small fire or should get a new, what does your test conclude on this topic? If a metal isn't melted and filter is easily replaceable then I don't see any problem reusing it. I watched few videos about this box and your test was very convincing to get few of these including one from person who had fire during storage and was saved by this box and I personally had small fire and damage as a result during charging. However, I would split my batteries across more than one box, don't want to put too many eggs in same basket..lol I'm planning to keep the boxes in the garage on the concrete floor away from everything including walls and using a smoke detector (may use smart detector so I can get alerts when the home is empty) in the garage as well. Thanks for your good video guys, it was very helpful in making a decision whether to invest in one or not, before I was thinking to get an ammo box like others lipo owners but metal heating the bottom of the container was a concern for me 😊
@hazard-creative2 жыл бұрын
The manufacturer says it can be reused. The box does appear to be in good structural shape though very discolored inside. I did not personally test a second fire.

Manuprāt mikroslēdzis, vai vairāki mikroslēdži, kas nostrādā baterijai uzpūšoties un atslēdz lādētāju, būtu vel labāks risinājums.

Do you think it filters the smoke enough for it not to do damage if you keep it inside?
@hazard-creative6 жыл бұрын
It will probably depend on the size of the batteries/fire. My guess is the results won't be pleasant, but neither will they be catastrophic. You'll probably have some cleanup to do but you won't have to throw away a whole room's worth of furniture. But that's only an educated guess.

I own a bat-safe. I have 1 - 3s 5,000mah lipo. I'm going to be living in an apartment. I'm not concerned about the fire. I'm concerned about the apartment filling up with smoke & killing my family. I can't take that chance. Going to have to get rid of car & hobby all together. Nimhs don't last long enough even in parallel. I'm sad.

What you could do if you wanted was use the bat safe, which looks pretty good at containing the fire. Then build a compartment around it. Something simple with drywall for the walls, but have something on the top that will filter the smoke. It wont stop everything but I think it would help. Plus have a portable fire alarm inside to alert you if something goes wrong.

I'm in a apartment as well, you don't have to give up the hobby. Place a smoke detector above the box or inside, the box buys you more than enough time to move it to the balcony or to a safe place. I only charge one pack at a time as well whilst I'm home...apartment life
