Right there with ya buddy. I was just curious if he did this internally. In America, they’re nearly all 5v. Sold as Bluetooth recievers, with the micro USB on one end for the power, and a 3.5mm headphone socket on the other. Right there, most quit once because brain can’t process it. The rest of us run a power wire from someplace in the device thats 12v-15v, along with a wire to ground, connect that to a cigarette lighter usb Charger, then from the charger to the Reciever use a little micro usb cable. Then an auxiliary cable from the 3.5mm socket, cut the other end off, and solder/wrap/crimp the L & R Audio wires to the inputs of the device. Tuck it all out of the way and seal her up. Or let her dangle like most people. My vintage 1970 HK Reciever has Bluetooth now and trips people out. Like it’s magic. *sigh*

I had to take the time to say you did a quality job on that man very good work, you heat shrinked every wire, you didn’t hot glue the module in you took the time to drill holes and screw it in, you twisted the wires so they weren’t just floating wires, i seen some taped down to the board too! Very quality work man

I was trying to do this to my stereo a few years ago but was too lazy to find all the inputs and so on. I ended up having to hack the steering wheel transport controls anyway to make them work with my new head unit. Im glad I bought the new head unit though since it plays music from USB and I only need to use the bluetooth for calls the new stereo also came with hard wired hands-free. This is a very useful video though and I am thinking of making a similar one on the hacking of steering wheel controls.

A few years ago I wanted to replace my e46's stock radio-TAPE but I was suposed to buy a "Standard Radio Frame" from $$$ BMW $$$... In the end, I converted the original to a Radio-Tape-BL (3 function) while the BOM was even cheaper: 5$ for the (cheapest I could find back then) bluetooth speaker to dismantle 0.5$ 1x 7805 ~0$ : 1x 1N4148 + 2x 33Ko I'm using it on a daily basis so it worth every second, Waste of Time my a$$.
@kaneCVR
@kaneCVR 5 жыл бұрын
The "standard radio frame" for the e46 is 5 to 10$. The problem is, aftermarket stereos look like ass in the e46's dashboard. I went with a simpler mod - I created an "aux in" by dismantling the tape drive inside the stereo, removed the read head, added filter capacitors and tiny resistors and soldered a wire with a jack to where the tape drive's head was. Then I jammed the tape drawer to fool the drive into thinking there's a tape in the stereo and done. When selecting the cassette player, I can use the jack to get quality audio via aux in. Then i got bored of that not being able to switch tracks using the steering wheel buttons, and got a Dension Gateway Lite adapter witch provides a USB port, works with the steering wheel controls, and can display track information on the stereo's display. It cost ~90$. Then I got bored of that and installed an aftermarket 2 din nav system witch looks identical to the car's original navigation, but has a touchscreen and android 8.0. It was expensive to do (270$ for the unit and another 100$ for a new ashtray holder to move the climate control down one slot) but it's so worth it. I have mp3 (via 2 usb ports or two sd card slots), video, DVD player, navigation via google maps or igo, Torque for scanning codes, youtube, a reverse camera and much more. I even put a NES emulator on it for kicks. Worth the 370$.

This is best for a car where the hvac is built into the radio making it impossible to replace the radio. I.E. i did something similar in my 2008 Lexus is250. This car is just old enough to not have Bluetooth. It worked great, but if you don't know what is what you'll have to read a lot. I have some experience so it was easy for me to do.

There's a practical argument to make for adding Bluetooth if the radio of yours is a favorite or plays cassettes, you don't have the deep pockets to buy it all that music digitally or you don't have the time to rip them to mp3, ogg-vorbis or whatever your favorite digital format is. There is also the idea of experimenting, learning and having fun with what you're doing unconcerned about whether the electronic project is practical or not.

A 55Ah battery drained with 50mA is empty after 46 days, not 114 years. And you shouldn't completely drain a car battery anyway. So let's say we can safely take out 30Ah, and the car electrical system also drains 50mA, then we're already down to 12,5 days, less than two weeks...

The best option is to place the Bluetooth module OUTSIDE the metal case of the stereo because this metal case can be consider as a Faraday cage which might block the RF signal.
@Darieee
@Darieee 6 жыл бұрын
alright, but it works at a distance of around 2 meters, how can that be considered ?
@yhdbch
@yhdbch 6 жыл бұрын
First, it's only for improvement. Second, the distance is not a factor, if the signal is blocked, nothing is coming out. Third, the fact that is works for you does not say anything about Faraday's cage. Maybe your specific case and the specific place you placed the module is OK but in general, the signal might be blocked. Try to put some RF module inside a Microwave oven for example and you will see. Great video.

This setup doesn't have a microphone at all The sound quality over FM is pretty limited, even with perfect signal transfer ... If you don't mind the loss in quality, then this kind of hack for sure isn't worth it, I agree There's ones for 10$ and lower too

Hah! I was thinking to buy an cd changer emulator for my original stereo in my car (seems to be the only way to enable the audio input to hook up some kind of player, phone or whatever) but that costed me kind of a lot.. @@Darieee The onboard antennas are not the best, but okay, I do believe you. It might not be the case for everybody though and the placement inside can be of influence to the range. You did use a Bluetooth 4.0 which has a much better range than a Bluetooth 3.x or lower. I would advice people to take the highest Bluetooth version available and if possible place the module outside of the metal case.

This is very elegant work, but you did all this and still need the CD to work for no reason, isn't there another way around it? My own car stereo had AUX, so I went that way. Used a 1W car charger to get the power to the BT board, don't know how to work with regulators or I'd use one of those. The BT chip was a cheap Chinese car to BT audio adapter. Total cost was under $5 plus work but like I said, my stereo has aux, so it was easier that way. Also couldn't fit the CD module afterwards because of the car charger case which I kept, so it and the car board wouldn't short circuit or touch anywhere. So I removed the CD permanently, it's not like I have CDs nowadays anyway. Didn't ground the BT chip either, just used two passive ferrite cores each per channel to down the noise coming for EMI. Good video all and all.

Unfortunately mine doesn't have any way to select the AUX input, the audio MUX chip has it buut, yeah, can't select it (chip is controlled by i2c most likely) So, although I am using the CD player, it allows me to equalize the signal and add faders I've recently modded a mercedes radio and fed right into the amp, but that went terrible : no equaliser no volume adjustment on the radio side and no faders

If only using the built-in amp this mod is fine. But if using the preamp-out at the same time, the signal may become phase shifted 180 degrees, depending on how the pre-amp is designed. Just something to watch out for.
@Darieee
@Darieee 7 жыл бұрын
Hmm, not sure I follow - do you reffer to this multiplexer I feed my signal into as the preamp ?
@daw7563
@daw7563 7 жыл бұрын
Nevermind, this is most likely not a problem. I was only thinking since every amplifier stage internally inverts the signal 180 degrees (preamp, poweramp etc), and skipping one step would be like if you connect the speakers with wrong polarity. So I thought if you would use this Bluetooth mod and also use the preamp low level output to an external amplifier this could be an issue, but I might be totally wrong. As long as all speakers are in the same phase it's okay. I once modified a broken amplifier with blown mosfets but I wanted to use the equalizer so I broke out the signal before the mosfets and used as a low level signal to another amplifier, the signal was then inverted, so I had to take that into consideration. But I realize now that this might never be an issue with your mod.

Exactly, since it's AC, all wrong is all good :D Nice to know though about the phase shift !

Want to incorporate into my neighbors 74 corvette which has the original radio. How or can this CSR8645 BT unit be added to this radio (only unit) by independently switching the BT unit on/off (external switch) and connect somewhere in the audio circuit to pick up the amplified speakers? Where can I find internal schematic of this Delco radio? May be an old video but I fully understand the the technique used. Thought it was great.
