This is why my cameras are all outside. The inside ones are powered off (physically) unless we are away. It’s also why the cameras and all IOT devices live on a separate wifi network. Since my routers support multiple networks it’s super easy to do and worth it.

Use wired camera systems, and don't run the cables outside, like down a wall. [Or mount them inside a conduit]. It is also almost a law that the easier it is to set up and use a device, the easier it is to hack.
@gbinman Жыл бұрын
I have outside cameras and have taken the device admin steps you mentioned. I am really not concerned about the camera being hacked because they are outside and can see what anyone outside can see. When on trips I do activate inside cameras that view the paths to doors primarily and inside the garage. It is always good to anticipate risks. The worse smart products are the smart locks. The smart locks focus on tech but always have backup access with horribly weak locks. It's not smart to buy a smart lock. Giving access to exterior doors is a higher risk than cameras.

Other suggestions from my side as extra precautions: 1. Don't put cameras in sensitive areas where someone is sleeping or changing clothes and in bathroom. Indoor camera in kitchen or hallway is ok, unless, nobody is doing strange things there. 2. Create subnet with different IP subnet for camera network with separate, cascading router for it, if going cheep way. To get to camera network, hacker first need to hack main router, then needs to guess what listed device may be second router and then needs to hack it to get to camera system or NVR.. 😂 Yeah, hiding or changing device default names is always great suggestion, including, default passwords and default admin names.. 👍
@FruityHachi Жыл бұрын
it's mind-boggling to me why would anyone want indoors cameras where someone is sleeping or changing clothes or in bathroom if you don't need a camera in a public bathroom and wouldn't want to find one in a hotel room you stay, then why put them indoors in your own home and essentially rob yourself of any remaining privacy?

Just as a fire alarm system monitoring company notifications of alarm condition with fire alarm panel in alarm/trouble condition would notify you of problem with fire alarm system panel. Up to you to find out what the alarm condition actually is and take care of the problem in person not remotely. People put themselves in trouble all the time with internet WiFi.
