You know, there is A LOT that is being left out of this story, & it's being retold in a COMPLETELY different time. When the Denise character went off to Hillman, he could have treated her the way that Sondra was treated for the first two years, as someone who just dropped in for the occasional holiday or weekend trip home. But, he gave her a WHOLE sitcom of her own that followed his own timeslot, the second most powerful coattails on TV at the time. And, he is right that America would have LOST THEIR MINDS about Denise Huxtable being pregnant out of wedlock. Today, it happens ALL THE TIME & everyone is cool with it, but back then, there was still shame associated with it, & IF it happened to upper class girls, they either had an abortion or had it & gave it away. Almost NONE of them kept the baby & raised it on their own. That was the zeitgeist of the mid 80s. But, after all she had done to piss him off, he STILL let her come back to his own show. In many ways, he looked after her better than anyone else would have in show business & gave her so many opportunities, & I think that she was actually his favourite of all his TV "kids." When you watch them on screen, there was a real father/daughter warmth there that seemed to be lacking with most of the other kids. But, I do appreciate that she was too professional to wade into the ugliness of the Cosby allegations.

This! I’m always amazed at how people overlook the fact that he really could’ve kicked her to the curb without trying to help her. At the end of the day she was an employee of the Cosby Show. Period.
@TheDawnofVanlife5 ай бұрын
@@cims1ty640I think that had more to do with spin. After several years, the audience was FAR more attached to Denise than Sandra who was always a kind of ghost character (in and out and in fact tacked on after the pilot because in the pilot they clearly state they have four children cause they did not want five as a joke, then a fifth child shows up that was ‘in college’). People get attached to the kids in Sitcoms. Recasting Denise would have caused dissonance for the audience and people were attached to the Cosby kids as the Cosby kids, so people would want to know what is going on with Denise and it would have been more work to keep her invisible tbh, even the last couple seasons where they had Olivia and her parents were ‘away’ was one of those far fetched sitcom plot lines. So with A different world what better way to sell a new show than a character the audience was already invested in? Hence, A different World benefitted Cosby in that the audience still got to see Denise Huxtable and what she was up to without her having to be on the Cosby set. If he really cared about her, he could have found a way to work around her pregnancy as well even if he didn’t want Denise to be pregnant . Several shows did that with creative shooting techniques and its college, by that point other characters had storylines so you could have lightly written in Denise shot around the pregnancy until the baby was born, and the upped her presence. It has been done before. I also notice they started to write Denise as far more air headed and flighty when she returned to the Cosby Show with the Olivia plotline after being a fairly sharp and capable teen character. Luckily a Different World was a hit and the audience did eventually latch on to the new characters for the sake of themselves and not the tie to the Cosby show.

I read an article about her a while back and what I took from it was she was always a free spirit with a rebellious nature. Bill sort of wanted to reel that in and tame her. Mistakes like this don't happen when writers feel obligated to check their dates, instantly available on so many reliable, reputable sources. With all the individuals at "Soulful Screen TV," advertising agencies, publicity firms, etc. that vet the final cut, easily half a dozen individuals should have raised their hands AND voices: "'80s, '80s, '80s -- '90s NOT." I watched a special called We Need To Talk About Cosby and in that show one of the co-stars talked about seeing all these women around. Now if he saw all these women I have to imagine Bonet did too. Bonet was young when she did that show and young people don’t like it when adults are publicly saying this but privately doing something else. It’s also possible that Cosby tried some crap with her although I don’t think so. I believe Bonet had Cosby’s number from the get and that’s probably why they didn’t get along.

As a Caucasian & European (born and raised in Europe), some people around me were surprised I enjoyed a show where nobody looked like me, but I really did, and I even fancied being part of that seemingly ideal family. I even thought and answered at the time: "Isn't that something non-Caucasians deal with all the time?" At least back then very much so.

she was okay, when I was in high school all my friends were crazy about her. Me? She was alright. But even when she was on that show, I could sense some tension between Cosby and Bonet

The decision she made to do that movie followed her throughout her life. Lisa had father issues, and Bill was like a father figure to her, but she didn't listen to him. If you have noticed the rest of the Cosby kids kept a relationship with Bill and they are successful today.

Cosby should talk he's far from innocent hiding behind his good guy wholesome image that came back to bite him in the ass. As for Lisa her life as long as it didn't interfere with the show besides many things happen to people in real life they just write into the script. TV and movie land is not perfect this show was a family show she grew up and these things happen. Besides white or colored I think most people guys of course tuned in to see Lisa and the woman that played Cosby's wife both very attractive women. I saw this show growing up and even at a young age I thought them both attractive and I'm white if that really means anything?

Do you understand within black society to have pregnant black women in college was a bad image for young black men and women? The point was for black men and women to excel in life by being focused on their education, and because of "The Cosby Show and A Different World," many black men and women went to college and succeeded because of the image and message that was delivered.

@@starlightrocks7 again, the point is, two of the girls on the show are majority white by race, the parents were not, the obvious conclusion is that Claire had outside relations, and maybe that is the black culture in a nutshell, so who was the biological father(s) the most ignored question today in the black community.

Bill didn't want Lisa.😂😂 Lisa messed up her career when did that horrible movie, "Angel Heart" which flopped. Bill begged her not to do that movie because he knew the backlash that she would get. That decision that Lisa made to do that movie followed her throughout her career and it pretty much ended her acting career.
