Lisa Fischer is top 3. She uses her whistle capability with clarity and purpose. Rolling Stones. Chaka Khan. Tina Turner, Luther Vandross and the list goes on. A beautifully gifted woman!

Lisa has said, in interviews (and I am paraphrasing), that she just didn't feel comfortable with a solo career and all that comes with it. She found the collaborative process as a backup singer more gratifying at that time in her life. So she chose not to pursue a solo career. That's why she doesn't have the fame in the public's mind that she deserves. I agree that she is one of the top singers on earth. Her skill and talent are supernatural.

I wish she felt more comfortable in the spotlight and being a lead vocalist. She has such an amazing voice and could have had a lot of hits. She was so beautiful also there in the video when she performed in Japan

Lisa sang back up for many artists. But she was with Luther Vandross for 25 years doing about 100 dates a year. Yes, she sang with the Rolling Stones for even more years, but that work was intermittent. Along with the great singer Ava Cherry she worked 3 or 4 times as much for Luther. I prefer this version to her recorded version. The most underrated singer of her generation. She still performs in and around my native Brooklyn and she lives just a few blocks from me. She can still hit that F6 and she is still just as beautiful as ever. The great Lisa Fischer.

This a great comment. Ms. Fischer is phenomenal! I hope she knows how much her exquisite gift is appreciated by some folks! Everything, the transitions, the notes, and the whistle notes! Girl! It brings tears to hear a gift like this! Please neighbor let Ms. Fischer know, she is appreciated my billions. . . . and I had no doubt about her hitting that F6! Lisa Fischer is a legendary and iconic star for me, and I introduce her vocals to people as often as I can.

My Lisa Fischer drop a mic moment? Singing background for Luther Vandross all them years (the bulk of her career), He challenges her to go make a solo record, she does it, wins a Grammy...and she goes right back to singing background for :Luther! Like "Ok, you satisfied? I proved I could it it, now leave me alone!" Wow!! Most underrated vocalist in the industry!

Yet here is another kicker. She tied for the Grammy win with Patti LaBelle. She was so happy about the tie. She never wanted to be out front singing. She was very content singing background. So it was HER decision to stay a background singer no other reason.

Lisa Fischer is extremely talented. She released one album. It contained "How Can I Ease the Pain", which was a big hit song for her AND won her the Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 1992. She didn't want the limelight; so, she went back to her passion of being a background singer. She performed with famous musicians, while juggling tours as a backup singer for Luther Vandross while simultaneously being a session singer with The Rolling Stones. Amazing!

You have to watch the Documentary "20 Feet from Stardom" It talks about all the backup singers, especially the black up singers that gave that extra flavor that was needed in the rock songs coming out from The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and a lot of other acts. Lisa, even though she won a grammy for this song, she was not comfortable being in the spot light and went back to singing backup for many acts including the Rolling Stones, Luther Vandross and many other acts. The other backup singers in this documentary said, that Lisa Fischer owns that space (backup singing space) She is heavily featutred in this documentary. They mentioned the song Take a walk on the Wild side by Lou Reed. "When you hear Lou Reed sing "And the Colored Girls go do da doo doot da doot do!" He was talking about this very thing about the back up singers giving the seasoning that rock and roll needed. You should check it out. Excellent Documentary!

She didn't want to be a Solo artist, or in the spotlight, she wanted to stay in the background. She also sung back up for Luther Vandross

Exactly and talked her into doing this Album and song. She originally didn't want to do this and look at the impact it left on the world. She also has a Grammy for this song.💯🥰

I to think Lisa Fisher is up there with the best singers! From what I understand she just didn't like being front and center. You definitely got to respect a woman who knew who she was and where she was the happiest. The center spotlight was just not her thing.

Not as popular? Girlfriend has sang with legends, from the Rolling Stones to Tina Turner to Luther Vandross, who, legend has it once told a famous female bocal trio, "My backing vocalist can out-sing all of you!". If so, he wasn't lying, but as far as not being as popular, she did win a Grammy tied with Ms. Labelle, Some folk perform for money, some for fame, some for the love of doing it. Lisa did it for the love, and also made bank, and didn't have to suck anything to get it.

I understand she sang with those legends, but she isn’t as popular as a lot of other mainstream singers of her time. I think she’s incredible and is one of the best vocalist that I’ve ever heard. Me saying she’s not popular is not a stain on her legacy, I’m simply saying if you mention her in general conversation, many people probably would not know who you’re talking about compared to someone like Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, Mariah Carey, etc. I definitely agree that she sang for the love and I believe she stated that she didn’t like all “glitz” that came with her being a solo performer (don’t quote me). But thanks for your comments

She didn't want to pursue Major Stardom after the person left that hired her. Then she was dropped. Plus she didn't want to put up with all the BS that comes with being a Solo Act. She just loves singing with different people as to where she was in control pretty much over her own Destiny. She just loves to sing!!!
