I'm still new enough to railfanning that I don't know what "southern style" means. Could you explain?

The Southern railroad operated there locomotives long hood forward "backwards" as some people might say and for some reason the engineer was running his locomotive that way when he was heading back to Lafayette Indiana. Hope that helps you
