Cool, I may consider this as an alternative to constant notebook writing and my laptop for my class notes and personal journal. It has none of the web browsers and apps that distract me, and it makes note taking easier as I'm a slow writer in general and my notes turn into chicken scratch if I have to keep up the professor's pace ; ;

Can you use a micro disk to save your documents instead of using the cloud?

Not at the moment, but you can use the included USB cable to transfer work to a computer without using the cloud. (You can also email drafts to yourself.)

what's the difference between this and a cheap thinkbook or other laptop. even literally just a cheap Chromebook. this is basically a laptop still minus all the things that make a laptop productive, so this is only exclusively for writers. $500 for a cheap membrane keyboard and a screen that you can only use to write, i'd rather use my phone or literally just a piece of paper

You are correct, it IS for writers, and mine is my favorite writing tool to keep me distraction free. The freewrite helps me draft/write the same way I would if I was writing paper and pen style, only the keyboard helps me do it at the speed of thought instead of being bogged down with handwriting. Its not for editing or emails, it is a niche product just meant for drafting and transfering those pages. And the keyboard is frickin awesome.
